If I'm not mistaken, it's "Murder" pure and simple if the cause of death was gun fire...especially if he's already admitted that he pointed the gun at the victim intentionally.
It doesn't help his case that he didn't report the incident right away.
Ok you guys are really stretching it with these crime stories that involve videogames. They just happen to be playing games. You realize youre just continuing the stereotype of "games = violence" by posting stories like this. Then you turn around and wonder why those kinds of topics pop up.
Also, its fox news. We get it. Fox keep doing this shit to videogames. Stop giving them the attention.
There should be no relation between his death and the videogame. Why do we take the deterministic approach and take the responsibility out of the hands of people? We are responsible for our own actions, not the videogame, not even the gun.
@neoraul20: I can't think of a way to stay in-character and point out why your statement is stupid, so I'll just say that I think it's interesting that whenever "aggressive tendencies" of the sort described in game violence studies are manifested people immediately start mewling about personal responsibilities instead of considering the idea that in isolated cases there might be a causal relationship.
@LIAR: If there was a relationship, then how come there aren't gamings killing each other every day?
Because the "casual" relationship requires some other element to actual trigger. Something has to be wrong with the person that they can make a logical leap from video game violence to real life violence.
@ReconToaster.: I'm no friend of fox news, but I don't really see an issue here. I think you're reaching. Video games are by definition interactive. And there is often a lot of trash talk involved. Not so much with action movies. The fact that the shooting was over a video game is an important part of the news story.
Now if you want to talk about the fact that the video game is barely mentioned in the article, now you have a legitimate claim. But your logic as it stands is flawed.
And if you want to talk about fox news being a pile of sensationalist crap, just go to mediamatters.org where their tabloid bullshit is heavily documented.
@Valnen: Some good-natured ribbing is often part of most any social, competitive experience. Playing with good friends while engaging in some all-in-good fun snarky verbal back-and-forth can be great. It seems a little over the top to imply trash talkers are capable of murder. Can't you see how ridiculous that is? Step back and evaluate. What you've said is really far more ugly and mean-spirited than any trash talk I've ever heard.
@Bialia: Agreed. I curse like a sailor (no pun intended) and me and my friends always trash talk each other when playing competitivly. It's part and parcel, trash talking can throw your opponent off their game or make them try even harder to win.
@Valnen: You realize you've probably offended the majority of competitive gamers by calling them all scumbags, right?
@geekgrrl: Same thought here. I feel like a heartless bastard for even caring what game they were playing, but my gamer-sense tingles.
Seriously though, I get incredibly frustrated when people die from stupid mistakes. I just can't fathom what would possess somebody to put their friend's life in danger like that.

Can we please stop posting fox news articles, discretely attempting to blame videogames for innocent deaths?
Had they been watching a movie together, I doubt the article would have read "Man Accused of Killing Fellow Sailor During Action Movie."
