That's fantastic news! It's great to Microsoft taking care of the PC platform again. Hopefully this will continue to be a trend! #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
"hinting that the Xbox 360-exclusivity surrounding the episode is due to expire"
I'm still not holding out for the PS3 DLC... don't think it's coming soon. Even if it does come, I probably won't purchase it unless they release the Episodes from Liberty City on Disc. :| I'm not rebuying GTAIV again. Or a GTAIV Complete Edition is released on the PS3. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
It's amusing how much it bothers people that the GTA IV DLC may not be entirely 360 exclusive. Exclusive DLC isn't in the best interest of gamers.
Anyway, hell yes if this turns out to be true. Hopefully GTA IV runs well on my hardware, seeing the time it's had to be patched and the fact that it sells for less than $20. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@jayntampa: .... I'm surprised than people still believes that GTAIV's DLCs will be available on PS3. Did you guys were sleeping in a cavern for 2 years or what ? Microsoft bought the GTAIV DLC. They paid 50M$ for them. It's been in the news since then.
Seeing the DLCs on PC 6 months after their release on 360 was sure to happen since Microsoft also have Windows. You are going to hear about Gay Tony on PC in May next year, mark my word on this.
However, thinking about a possible release of these DLC on PS3, it is impossible. It is like if the next iPod would run a Windows OS or if New Super Mario Bros was released on PSP.
@jayntampa: Ok I must admit that my response was a bit aggressive ;)
Knowing that GTAIV cost around 100M$ to make and that Microsoft paid 50M$ for exclusivity for the first 2 episodic contents on 360 (since some people are saying that 2 more DLCs might be on the way) I think they would need a very good reason to break that contract. I don't think that Microsoft's army or lawyers would have negotiated a deal for a year of exclusivity at this price.
Anyway, I think that Microsoft didn't really win in the long run with this strategy. GTAIV didn't have the expected reception from gamers and total revenues from the sales for the first DLC didn't cover the 25M$ yet. I don't think that BoGT will be able to beat that nether. And people doesn't look like they bought more XBox with this deal since most of the people around thinks that the 2 DLCs might be coming to PS3 eventually. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
I don't understand why Microsoft would have wanted it to be Xbox exclusive in the first place, as opposed to just NOT on PS3. Higher profit margin? #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@Hey_Blinkon: It's not just about deterring Sony sales, it's about inflating Microsoft's flagship system numbers, which is unfortunately not the PC. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@Archaotic: So Am I. This "360 exclusive" contract has to have an end date, right?
I don't understand the exclusive deals anyway. Wouldn't a company want to maximize their profits and release content across multiple platforms? #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@TheCatInTheHat: Especially considering the PC version sold CONSIDERABLY less copies than the 360 or PS3 versions. Porting it to the worst-selling platform and skipping the middle seems like an INCREDIBLY stupid idea. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@QualityJeverage: I dunno, it says "Only on XBOX 360" on the box, not "Only on XBOX 360 (and also PC when we feel like it)". It's stupid. Make it exclusive or don't. Stop jerking people around and looking for loopholes.
Besides, isn't the PC version of GTA4 an unholy mess that requires almost a Crysis-level system just to run properly?
@Archaotic: may be so but ms cut a deal and own the right to dlc sony will have fork a lot to get it from ms wich is never going to hapend #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@Koztah: Right, that's true. I'm just saying that since GFWL is owned by Microsoft, spreading the DLC to that platform shouldn't be taken as an indication of a PS3 release any time soon. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
@Archaotic: Couldn't Take-Two/Rockstar just bypass this "exclusivity" bullshit by releasing the GTA Episodes as GTA IV: Special Edition?
Wouldn't something like that technically make the PS3 version a "different" game?
I bet we'll see some news on this once again in the spring, and these Episodes -- one way or another -- are coming to the PS3. #grandtheftautothelostanddamned
As a PC Gamer of many years (from MS-Dos 3.x to Windows 7), I can tell you IMHO what went wrong with PC Gaming from Vista onward:
Games Explorer - A PIECE OF SHIT. I never used it. Had no reason to use it, and will not use it. Ever. I am already set in my ways of going to the icon in the folder I set up for shortcuts and go there with no hassle. Games Explorer doesn't do anything for me that I can't already handle and seemingly is there to insult the computer user's intelligence.
Games For Windows - WHO CARES? Sure, there's parental control and crap, but almost NONE OF IT IS USED. Even the article admits this. It looks more like a bad marketing ploy that got fouled up big time.
Games of Windows LIVE - AGAIN, WHAT THE HELL?!? I don't need "achievements" on my laptop or desktop to let me know that I just slaughtered a bunch of gamers halfway across the world that don't even know how to pronunciate the curse words that they are practicing on a microphone somewhere! They should've just left it well the hell alone, but no, they didn't, now did they? Frickin' tools...
And that is just on the Microsoft side of things. I'm not even going into the SecuRom crap (Sony, don't walk away when I have th machete in my hand, damn you!), the other inconsistent DRM factors, the umpteenth number of server closings and lack of any real clarity from MS HQ on how they are going to actually help PC Gaming back to the dominate state that it once were in.
Then again, maybe it's all a wash, in that Microsoft is secretly trying to kill PC gaming in lieu of their XBox line, the same way that some Buckeye fans believe that Terrelle Pryor possibly threw the game against Purdue on Saturday?
Still... This is what I see wrong with PC Gaming today. It's a shame too, since we're generally the ones with the money to buy the best gamin gear and put together tha best gaming rigs that money can buy. #windows7

@Soldier_CLE: With all due respect, I really LIKE that my ePeen grows when I play PC games under Windows Live. I LIKE that the time I spend in DoW2 shows up in my gamerscore/achievements for my Xbox. Yes, it is meaningless (and admittedly my gamerscore is piss poor low), but I like having a unified identity across gaming platforms. *shrug* #windows7
@Soldier_CLE: PC gaming has never lived or died because of any of MS' contributions to the industry... this will continue to be the case. I mean seriously what have they done beside DirectX that has ever enjoyed wide support in gaming? The difference between now and years ago is they're actually trying to get in on the action and perhaps control things a bit... but it's doubtful the rest of the pc game industry will let them get away with that. #windows7
@Soldier_CLE: Is a GUI an insult to a user's intelligence too? It's there to help you. If someone lent you a hand after you tripped, would you call them a piece of shit for disrespecting your ability to stand up? #windows7

@Soldier_CLE: I approve this post. MS can go ef themselves, and that shitty GfWL scheme of theirs. I'm still rockin' it oldschool on my windaz xp, and all the good games that I want to play come out for the pc anyway. The PC has always had the upper hand in the quality vs quantity chart anyway. #windows7
@psxndc: That's cool if you like it, but I always relished in the win itself, and always frustrated when I get the loss (especially when I thought I could've done something different.)
No "achievement" need remind me of this. #windows7

(Off topic) Tate Forcier has talent, but does not have the line that he will need to beat us.
He does have an arm, and I am impressed by his mobile accuracy, but he has to worry about a vibrant LB/Secondary if he wants to win. He'll have a better chance at us if they run.
Wolverine Defense - Has to get past our ailing Offensive ine if they want to get Pryor, who is stubborn in his ways, and doesn't follow the QB Coaches advice, which is killing him.
However, that doesn't always stop the ailing Pryor from reaching a talented Sanezenbacher, Posey, Duron Carter (who will amaze by "the rivalry" game), and Smalls, who better get his head out of his ass, come return time(!) #windows7

@Soldier_CLE: The problem is Hardcore PC enthusiasts like to pretend that the PC gaming market is, was, and always will be all about them. Its not. More people today want simple games they can play on their bare bones PC, laptop, when they're bored, than a high-end, sit-down, multi-hour, single player experience.
While gamers can get upset about game company's interest in Facebook games they need to realize it is not a new trend. People play games like checkers online on Yahoo, and other sites, for a decade now and game companies are just starting to see the money in that. Also, NPD sales show a game like The Sims, and even Nancy Drew, easily outdoes major releases in retail. Steam and Direct 2 Drive look a little different, but they are visited by far fewer people than Wal Mart, Best Buy, and other physical reatail stores.
Hardcore PC games are a niche market and should not expect the same treatment they received in the 90s still today. Game companies can make more money on consoles with traditional games or experiment with the emerging market of casual PC gamers. While that doesn't mean PC gaming as we know it will go away entirely, game makers will adjust their products to get the most market penetration and generate the most profit. Also, while it might not seem ideal to some, there are still plenty of great games coming to PC (just maybe not exclusively). #windows7
@zgreenwell: That's your opinion, and I respect that.
Still, while one could argue that it's a niche, potentially fueled by the umpeenth number of (dare I say) HORRIBLE Intel GMA Graphics Processors, as opposed to the number of CUDA/SLI combos out there, the PC Gaming community can dare to say with confidence that it were (emphasizing the past) emphasized on those of us who are willing to spend that good money and go so far as to trick out our rigs to be as efficient as possible under the most punishing of usage, from some of us adding GPUs and as many CPU Cores with as high a cache as we're able to use, to some of us within the PC gaming consortium using Liquid Nitrogen(!) to cool down our rigs.
Games, like Crysis, cater to this niche, as Doom3 had done earlier a decade ago. Many other games being published are also leaning toward those of us dedicated ATi and nVidia users that pay more for those better GPUs. or better multicore chips, like "Clarksfield".
While the "Diner Dash" games are still there for the ten dollar consumer to purchase (twenty if you go to Wal-Mart), it is not necessarilly represented of the "dedicated" PC -gamer, as it only represents the "integrated" PC-Gamer instead. Those "integrateds" represent some of the users, and I admit that I have bought a few myself (Peggle is addicting!), yet it doesn't mean that even the "integrateds" don't want to play games that now are pushing the envelope a bit, like "The Sims 3", that works well with nVidia. #windows7

Ironically, Microsoft, the very company that revolutionized the computer world by putting a PC in every home, would now rather we don't play video games on the PC at all.
After investing so much in the X-Box, what interest do they have in promoting PC gaming? They'd be shooting themselves in the foot. Again.
Why do I say again?
Because Microsoft's initial introduction into the console wars was, in fact, an act of foot-shooting.
The PC world has suffered considerably due to the console domination of gaming, thanks in part to the X-box.
So people spent less in upgrading their PCs, which meant less copies of Windows OSs and other apps sold.
I seriously doubt Microsoft would now turn around and once again push PC gaming. It's sad, but true. #windows7
I'd like to point out that PC gaming does not want or need a large corporate "push." In fact, the last thing PC gaming needs is a big happy plop of restrictions and mittens pinned to its jacket.
Trying to make PC gaming compete along the lines of easy to use, shiny, friendly, quick, etc is putting it up squarely up against the console market which does all that stuff way better.
You have to emphasize what makes PC gaming great and that's a lot of open source, community supported, highly flexible, frontier-expanding stuff that's the exact _opposite_ of any corporation's motives. #windows7
I got interested in Windows 7 when some diehard Linux fanboys I know actually posted how surprised they were at how fast and stable it ran.
Also, I lol'ed so hard at "easy installation" as a criteria for Games for Windows. I've never had remotely as difficult a time installing games as I had with GTA 4. #windows7
My incentive to buy Windows 7 isn't really because I expect better gaming, I just want a more efficient and better programmed OS in general. Plus, I get a student discount :P #windows7
@alex339: If you are a student inquire with your school/college/uni if they are part of the MSDNAA.
