@octalass: That's true but also, if you're a film student/maker you'll end up knowing about at least 75% of the films from the world that aren't shorts. Sometimes it takes time but word of mouth between colleagues usually does. I don't really know if any group needs a specialized socializing network because groups socialize outside the netwrok and get their info from outside. This would be good for those who are not heavy gamers but are interested in games.
Huh, they updated GamerDNA to scour the PSN for information now, it seems. It definitely wasn't notifying people when I got trophies before. Cool. I guess that makes them the only "gamer network" site that actually gives a shit about the PS3, then.
@Archaotic: Playfire.com's been working at the same thing for a while too. They used to have something working, but it required you to log into Playstation's EU site and make an account there. The EU site had a far more advanced trophy readout than we had prior to the last US site update.
Seems playfire tried adjusting to the new US site change, but there are some complications, so they only offer manual trophy input at the moment.
@ChaoticInfinityX: Yeah, I have a Playfire account...the problem is, I've already transcribed my ENTIRE 550+ game collection (save for the games I've picked up today) onto my IGN list...and that took me a LONG time. I dunno if I could ever muster the courage or free time to do it again.
Frustratingly, I can't access said IGN list now to add my new games, for some reason. :[
@Archaotic: Yeah, i haven't bothered adding every single game i've owned or played into my playfire account. I just add them if they come to mind or if i've bought them or played them within the week.
I don't know who is responsible for Twitter, but I want to drag him out in the street and bludgeon him with the heaviest object I can find. All it is is another way for douche bags to feel important. Don't even get me started on the celebrities.
@KommanderKeith: The difference here is that you need no filter between your brain and your fingers to get a twitter on the internet. If you have a cell phone, then at any time for any reason you can whip it out and post whatever dumbass thought comes to you before you can stop yourself or even spellcheck. While I'm not crazy about Facebook or such sites, at LEAST using it tends to mean you have free time to edit your blog and can thus devote proper time and effort to the things you write, and when you do so it'll (probably) be more interesting or important than what you had for lunch. Do people make stupid blog posts? Of course they do, but I bet their twitter posts are even dumber.
So no, I'm not doing the same thing. I'm trying to get a little dialogue going, not dump my minutia on people.
@grantanamo: It won't. Well, Twitter itself might, but I have a feeling that the idea itself will keep going, it's very appealing to people and, frankly, I much prefer something simple like Twitter to the cluttered and annoying shit like Facebook.
@grantanamo: I agree. Why do we need to know what people are thinking about everything that ever goes on? Look at me! I'm important because I have an OPINION!
@That Lamer: I already see a few problems with this site, unfortunately, b/c it could be good. The first is that there just aren't enough games being followed - if I were to talk about pictobits, it wouldn't get shown because it's not up on the site at all.
Another thing is for the nicknames we give games. Right now "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" is up there, but my friends and I either call it Smash. No way that's gettin' up on there. Unfortunate limitations of an otherwise cool idea.
@Saxboy: Shooters give people a good, mindless way to waste some time. When someone gets tired of games, they go to shooters because they don't have to think about it.
What exactly is a Rock Band gamer? Anyone who plays or has ever played Rock Band? Someone who plays Rock Band more than any other game? How frequently are they playing it?
GamerDNA is an interesting site, but it takes a lot of dedication to make it accurate if your taste in games is at all eclectic. Not really an avoidable issue, though.
@Bernard McGraw: I think it's more that people just getting into gaming through titles like Rock Band move on to Bioshock as it is widely perceived as a decent game and therefore what they can get next for their system.
@cheeseboybeans: You may very well be correct there. I for one still find it kind of odd that people are buying the expensive peripheral-based games first and then digging further into the library in mass quantities, buuuuut I guess that Wii Fit sold pretty well...

No, not really.
This isn't like Netflix where there are hundreds of thousands of movies to look at. Hell, there aren't more than 10,000 games worth playing.
Just go to Metacritic and look from the top to the bottom.

Telling someone what you're doing right now doesn't really count as being self-centered.
PROTIP: You just voiced your opinion on the internet too. :)

There definitely are plenty of mindless shooters out there, but please don't lump them all into one category.

And why are people still playing Bioshock?
01/21/09
Not everybody bought it when it was new, and some who did like to play games more than once.
For example, I played BioShock when it came out, and now I want to play it again.
