GameCity 3 - This Time It's The Third

Nottingham England's second annual gaming celebration and tea party was a huge success, and since no one anyone really knew all that well died during the preceedings, GameCity is returning for a 3rd round this October! Bringing together industry veterans, students, developers, fans, and possibly a few enterprising beggars across a wide variety of venues spanning an entire city, from lecture halls to movie theatres, classrooms to Indian restaurants. It all sounds quite lovely. Just ask Lorne Lanning, who used to make video games:
"It looks like our industry might have found its first Sundance. GameCity is a unique approach to a videogame festival that seems long overdue," Lorne Lanning.
This year's event will run October 30th through November 31st, meaning they could very well slip in a spooktacular or two before the weekend is out. Perhaps it is time I finally secure myself a passport and take my first tentative steps off U.S. soil. More »

GameCity Hosts Wii Lightsaber Premier

England's second GameCity festival is happening in Nottingham from October 24th to the 28th, and attendees will be the first to try out the Nintendo Wiimote used as a lightsaber in Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. Not only that, but October 26th is Star Wars day at the festival, featuring Jonathan Smith of Travellers Tales discussing the Lego Star Wars series' creation and success, a Physics of the Force demonstration featuring Natural Motion's Euphoria engine, and a special discussion on What Makes a Brilliant Star Wars game, featuring sci-fi expert Jonathan Hamblin and our own occasional contributor, Wonderland scribe Alice Taylor, who kicks several different varieties of ass. For tickets to the festival, visit GameCity.org. Hit the jump for full details on all of the Star Wars gaming goodness. More »

Takahashi Lends Vision To GameCity 2007

Katamari creator Keita Takahashi has been announced as the 2007 Vision Statement speaker for the GameCity festival in Nottingham England, which takes place October 24th - 28th this year. Takahashi will be at Nottingham's Broadway Media Centre on Saturday the 27th to deliver the second annual festival's Vision Statement, where he will share some of his works and insight into the gaming industry. Last year's Vision Statement was delivered by Lorne Lanning, who used the event to announce his movie, Celebrity Siege. Last year's event also saw b-boy dance lessons, Sonic's birthday party, and a solo Sega piano concert by Richard Jacques in a 14th century church.
Keita Takahashi, a formally trained artist, commented, "I haven't had the chance to consider my plans for the day just yet but I'm definitely ready to enjoy myself! I'm hoping to share some of my works at the event so let's hope everyone can join me in October!"

GameCity: Nottingham's Celebrity-Laden GameFest

Nottingham, famous for men in tights, is now about to be famous (in the circles that count, of course) for something else: videogame cultural celebration. Yes! Why rob the rich and give to the poor when you could be in a videogames-themed pub quiz with the luscious Lorne Lanning and infamous Ian Livingstone? More »
