Fable II CE Cut Even Further
So the Fable II Collectors Edition box set has been trimmed a little, losing the five printed fate cards, the Hobbe figure, and..oh yes, the box. Still, we still get a bonus DVD with developer diaries and the full game soundtrack, right? Perhaps not. Frequent Kotaku contributor and all-around nice lady Lesley Smith passes on this email from UK retailer Game regarding even further cuts to the decreasingly collectible edition. More » -

High Street Retailers Sell Mature Games To Underage Girl
Which should children in the UK resort to buying mature games online when they can simply pop down the shops and pick one up? UK magazine Which? Computing tested the resolve of High Street retail store clerks by having a 15 year-old girl attempt to purchase 18-rated games from various shops, with three of the stores actually going through with the transaction. At Woolworths, Game, and Maplin the young lady purchased GTA Vice City Stories, Condemned 2, and Hitman respectively. The three stores are currently investigating the transactions. More » -

GAME's Online Store Force-Bundling GTA IV [Update]
We haven't (yet) heard of any bricks-n-mortar retailers force bundling GTA IV. Which is a good thing! Online retailers, however, are a different story. Anyone hoping to pick up a copy of the game's standard edition from the website of European mega-retailer GAME will find they can't. Not unless they also want a Sixaxis. Or a wireless 360 pad. Or a copy of...Devil May Cry 4. Because GAME's online store will only sell you the standard edition if you buy it in one of their "fantastic GTA deals!!!", the cheapest of which is £54.98 (USD$108, for GTA IV & Kane & Lynch) and most expensive being £329.99 (USD$650, for an Elite 360, GTA IV, PGR4 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2). You stay classy, GAME! More » -

Brits Now Paid For Pre-Ordering GTAIV
Britons being paid in Microsoft points for pre-ordering Lost Odyssey, that was understandable: while it's a good game, it's hardly a sequel to a AAA franchise, licensed property or sports game, so retailers had a job on their hands trying to sell the thing. But offering 500 MS points to people pre-ordering GTAIV? It's like money for nothing. Yes, I know it's only GAME/GameStation stores offering the deal, and yes, I know they'll say it's to encourage people to order the game from their stores, but where else were you going to pre-order it from? Tescos? More » -

First Ever Game Kiosk
I was checking out the mall in Hornsby, Australia, (about 30 minutes north of Sydney) when I ran into this curiosity: A Game Kiosk. There was even a Nintendo rep on hand toplaydemonstrate the Wii for most of the day. More » -

'Shaping the Community' - Games Need To Be More Like Film?
Gamasutra has a piece up by Andy Robertson on what the game industry can learn from the film industry - at least in terms of fostering a sense of community. Game companies, you see, are apparently falling down on the job of giving their fans some 'ownership' in the final product. It's transparency of the design/production process that makes the hit! Who knew? Lord of the Rings wouldn't have been as successful a film without the rabid community surrounding the films (hasn't Tolkein always enjoyed a mass following of dedicated fans)? Halo 3 is a hit because of relative transparency between company and fans? The Playstation blog is turning around years of crappy PR for Sony? Maybe it's just the fact that I'm on my last nerve after a week of fires, declining air quality, and more fires in San Diego, but my gut reaction is 'You've got to be kidding me': More » -

First Official Transformers: The Game Screenshot Appears
At this point, everyone is waiting to see if the new Transformers Movie is going to suck, although I think most people have already decided it will. But, Transformers: The Game still holds some hope, even though it's essentially based on the movie. Activision hasn't really released much if any, media for the game, so we were very excited to see this Xbox 360 screenshot end up in our mailbox. I would have liked to see some Optimus Prime action, but I suppose I can settle for Bumblebee. Pretty silly name for a robot, but at least he looks badass. I wonder if he still turns into a VW Beetle? More » -

Activision Transformers Tidbits
Activision has released what amounts to a blurb concerning the Transformers games due to coincide with the Michael Bay 'movie' release come this July, including a list of who's developing what for which console. DS vets Vicarious Visions will be handling the conversion to Nintendo's handheld while Savage ports it to the PSP. Who's handling the main game? None other than one of my favorite developers, Traveller's Tales, creators of Lego Star Wars and one-time owners of the best game studio logo ever. More » -
