This game got put on my Q. Not because I REALLY think it will be great; but I can say this might be the CLOSEST thing to Wolverine in a game as he should be. My actual fear is I think the game may be good, but extremly short.
If Japan had won the war, Japan would still be an technologically backward, religiously imperialistic state...
Sometimes it's actually good for a country to lose a war. Especially when they've won too often before, such as the US with Vietnam... Granted, it wasn't good for the soldiers involved, but for the nation as a whole? Yeah, I think it did some good.
This actually sounds like it'll be my kind of strategy game. Far too many RTSs put too much of the focus on micromanagement and l33t clicking skills, causing the actual STRATEGY of the strategy game to fall on the wayside (imagine if a FPS put more of an emphasis on melee attacks than actually shooting people).
I'm gonna hold my final judgement till I play it though. Ubisoft and RTS aren't words you hear paired too often but the developer Eugen Systems released the great C&C:Generals styled Act of War so it could be interesting.
@-MasterDex-: They also picked up World in Conflict developer Massive Entertainment. I think Ubisoft is going to be driving the next wave of RTS genres. Relic beware!
@TheOmnitron: That slightly worries me. I've never been a big fan of Ubisoft as far as their PC releases go. It's as if they set the developers console game deadlines rather than PC game deadlines so the end result usually ends up with compatibility issues and conflicts and support is often slim.
They have been improving though, I'll grant them that. I just hope that if they are going to put more of their resources into the PC gaming market that they manage deadlines and support in a manner suited to PC.
i finally read up on Brubaker's run of the new book (and got caught up to the current arc), and its all been surprisingly awesome.
see, i dont want to hear about ultimate combos or whatever, for this i want new characters. i expect Ronin, Ares etc but this was the one i really wanted, so im quite happy. now my lineup of DD, wolvy, cap, and fury (or moon knight) have another alternate, heh.
awesome. another gimmicky, "more about skill and strategy than clicking (THEY SAY THIS EVERY. TIME.)," RTS that people will buy only to stop playing three days later and unsupported by the developers not much longer than that
the expansion pack is no longer the staple of the business model, it's all about gimmicks,
nor is the point of the expansion pack to add content, it's to fix huge gameplay flaws (a la forged alliance)
why is it that developers treat the RTS genre like trash, even if it's their primary focus (relic)
@koof: Are you for real? Relic treat the genre like trash? Is this the same relic that released the AAA titles Company of Heroes and Dawn of War?

I haven't seen too many gimmicks in RTS games lately nor do I think the only thing that Forged Alliance added was gameplay flaws.
Honestly, I think if you're buying RTS games but aren't playing them longer than 3 days then perhaps you don't like RTS games and should stop buying them.
That screenshot reminds me of GoldenEye. However, I still maintain that serious gaming is not worth even attempting on the iPhone; the controls and battery life are just not a good fir.
After... I think 15 RTS games on my consoles- I'm not really impressed. Granted- the trailers didn't do anything to explain how it's played... but pretty much every RTS has failed to really grip me. Halo Wars is the far and away greatest success because the controls are amazing and the pace is still FUN. Aside from that- Lord of the Rings:BFME was pretty cool. The C&C games haven't impressed me a bit. And the new 'idea's for RTS's have been too arcadey and don't play right. If RUSE gets a demo out and explains why it's different than the C&C games, I'd give it a shot. For now though- just bring on some more HW levels and modes.

RTS on consoles have always been far from perfect. Don't dismiss a whole genre because you're playing the games on the wrong platform. Check out some PC RTS games, that's where they belong and that's where they work best.
so why not just make it turn based? It's trying to have the strategy of a turn based strategy game... but everyone will just end up building 100 tanks and send them at the enemy base, that's what happens in all rts games.
Besides, this game makes it easier to disrupt the enemies income which is one of the major goals in any decent RTS, but since the source of income is always at the very center of the base it is kind of moot.
Smaller strike forces would be more powerful. Basic goal: Destroy supply road, run. Small squads to defend supply roads. Destroy your enemies income, while building your forces for a major assault or defense. THEN charge in with 100 tanks. If you do it right, while you have a hundred tanks, your opponent has fifty.
@Ghede: is it wrong if I still win? har har ... but seriously, I get your point and if done correctly it should be interesting... but knowing how causal gamers play games..... and this is geared towards them... they'll just build piles of the biggest thing and use no strategy whatsoever. Slowing the game down giving more time for strategic attacks will just widen the gap between good and bad rts players.
@KingDavid73: I get what your saying. I love RTS games and I'm quite capable of thinking strategically and winning battles but going online in RTS games can be very daunting as there's often no ranking system to avoid battling guys who have spent hours learning all the stats of their units, etc.
