<![CDATA[ Dragon Quest Swords Dated For US, Canada ]]> Square-Enix announced today that the Wii exclusive slime slasher Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and The Tower of Mirrors will be shipping to North American retailers on February 26th. The best part? Those of us in the West will be given new, never before released bonus content, which the publisher describes as "a "Payback Mode" and four hidden bosses." This will inevitably lead to Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and The Tower of Mirrors Payback: International Remix + being released in Japan in the summer or fall of 2008. It will then sell an extra 50,000 or so extra copies of the game to people who already own it. Those poor bastards probably don't even see it coming.

<![CDATA[ Wild ARMs Puts Hex On PSP ]]> I am convinced that the PlayStation Portable is going to become the best platform for Japanese RPG if they ever get around to phasing out the PS2, and XSEED's announcement of Wild ARMs XF (Corssfire) coming to North American PSPs in Spring of next year only strengthens that belief. The first handheld Wild ARMs game ever, XF is the natural progression of the series from the hex grid system used in the past two console versions into full-on hex-based strategy. It places you on the dying world of Filgaia, where a personal story of revenge slowly transforms into a mission to save the world. Pretty standard for Wild ARMs, really. What isn't is standard is the turn-based strategy, which features over 60 stages, tons of optional battles, and 20 job classes to help customize your party. As a special bonus, the US version includes a 20 track music library accessible from the game's main menu, letting you listen to the game when you shouldn't be playing. Check out the gallery below for tons of portable Wild ARMs goodness.

XSEED Games Announces Wild ARMs XF

Journey Through the World of Filgaia With Strategic Hex Battle System

Torrance, Calif., (November 29, 2007) —- Are you ready to carry around the fate of a dying planet in your hands? XSEED Games today announced that it has acquired North American publishing rights for Wild ARMs XF, a deep and challenging turn-based strategy RPG for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, scheduled for release in Spring 2008.

Wild ARMs XF (pronounced "Crossfire") is the newest installment in the long-running role-playing series which marks a couple firsts for the franchise; the first one containing tactical strategy gameplay, as well as the first Wild ARMs game to appear on a handheld system. Wild ARMs XF offers a unique strategy role-playing experience with a hex-based grid system producing more tactical positioning options, a large number of job classes allowing vast party customization, and a wide range of mission objectives making it one of the deepest strategy games on the PSP® system. Wild ARMs XF features an all-new cast in an epic story of death, betrayal and redemption played out against the backdrop of the dying world of Filgaia.

The Story

The once vibrant world of Filgaia is slowly dying, a result of some cataclysmic event lost in the dim, misty reaches of the past. The few pathetic remnants of once mighty nations are caught up in an endless cycle of war, fighting over Filgaia's ever-dwindling natural resources. Amidst the carnage and slow decay, there is one kingdom that has until recently managed to avoid the chaos and suffering plaguing its neighbors; the kingdom of Elesius.

However, the kingdom is slowly descending into anarchy with the king inflicted with a mysterious illness that has kept him bed-ridden, intensifying the future uncertainty as the heir-apparent disappeared a year earlier and is presumed dead. An opportunistic senate has formed its own police force and is gradually usurping power from the royal family.

It is against this backdrop of political intrigue and social decay that the main character Clarissa Arwin, accompanied by her half-brother and protector, Felius, enter Elesius hot on the trail of Rupert Dandridge, the man who murdered her mother. What started out as a personal vendetta soon turns into an epic battle to not only keep a kingdom from falling, but to save the world of Filgaia from being turned into an uninhabitable wasteland.

Key Features

· Innovative hex-based battle grid system allows more tactical positioning options, such as Formation Arts and Combination Arts, as opposed to the traditional square-based battle grid.

· One of the deepest strategy games on the PSP system with over 60 stages containing a wide array of mission objectives, as well as numerous optional battles.

· Almost endless party customization with over 20 unique job classes to choose from such as Berserker, Elementalist, Grappler, Geomancer and Sacred Slayer.

· Extensive material creation options to create more powerful weapons, spell books and armor by combining rare materials obtained by sending out hired mercenaries to scavenge throughout the world of Filgaia.

· US-exclusive inclusion of a Music Library containing 20 select tracks from the game accessible any time from the game menu.

The ESRB rating and suggested retail price will be announced at a later date. Additional information on the title will be available at http://www.xseedgames.com.

<![CDATA[ Dungeon Lords Somehow Expands, Sequalizes ]]> Dungeon-lords-box.jpgJoWood Productions has announced plans for a stand-alone expansion and sequel to 2005's PC action RPG, Dungeon Lords. The production of the games will be overseen by Dreamcatcher Interactive, the original game's publisher which JoWood purchased in November of last year in an effort to move into North America. For the record, Dungeon Lords was probably the buggiest, most incomplete game I had ever seen upon release. Buttons didn't work, tutorials were hosed, etc. Even now the game isn't complete, over 2 years after release. It was the only PC game that GameStop ever let me return, calling it defective. How that game scores an expansion pack in 2008 that bridges the gap between the original and the 2009 sequel is completely beyond me. Apparently it sold over a million copies. I'm guessing they've figured bargain bins sales into that number. Ew.

JoWooD Productions Announces Dungeon Lords 2

Stand-alone expansion pack due in Q3 2008 with full sequel to follow in Q3 2009

November 20, 2007 (Liezen, AUSTRIA) - JoWood Productions announced today that it will release Dungeon Lords: Expansion (working title) for Windows in Q3, 2008. At the same time, the company announced the development of Dungeon Lords 2 (working title) for a next-gen console platform and the Windows platform for home personal computers.

Not requiring the base game, the Expansion Pack is a complete stand-alone game and will contain an all new story which acts as a link between the original game and the Sequel. The Sequel will deliver an all new graphics and physics engine, a new epic quest and all new art.

Dreamcatcher will oversee the production process.

Released in May, 2005 for Windows, Dungeon Lords has been well-received commercially, selling in excess of 1 million copies worldwide in a variety of formats.

<![CDATA[ Hudson Delivers Handheld Dungeon Explorer ]]> The TurboGrafx 16 classic dungeon crawler Dungeon Explorer returns! Hudson has announced that Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts is coming in February for the PSP and Nintendo DS, and don't worry about which version to buy, as both games have their own separate story, with the DS version taking place centuries after the events of the PSP game. Wha a frigging brilliant way to get me to buy a game twice! Both versions will allow three players to join up to fight co-operatively via PSP As-Hoc and Nintendo Wireless Connection respectively. The only thing that worries me is that there only seem to be three character classes in the game, as opposed to the original's 9 (including the hidden Hermit character.) I wanna be a Knome! I'll let you folks figure out which screenshots are PSP and which are DS. Good luck.

On a quest and ready to uncover the fate of a legendary kingdom, gamers will prepare to battle demonic forces and monstrous creatures. DE: WAA features hundreds of variations of weapons, armor and equipment that can be chosen and upgraded throughout the adventure to defeat enemies. Unique for the PSP system, players have the ability to choose their warfare style with more than 150 different kinds of fighting arts, including Big Bang Arts, allowing three players to team up to triple their destructive power in Ad-Hoc Multiplayer mode.

In the DS version, gamers find themselves in a land plagued by a legion of undead, monstrous soldiers. <![CDATA[ PS2 And Wii Get Alone In The Dark ]]> The title of this post sounds like a recipe for some hot console lovins, and it might not be too far from the truth. Ever cheerful in the face of impending doom, Atari has announced that the next game in the Alone in the Dark series is heading to the PlayStation 2 and Wii, along with the previously announced PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions. Hydravision is handling development on the two consoles, with Eden Games of course handling the more current-gennish versions. The developer promises to push both consoles to their very limits, with the Wii version of course getting the requisite Wiimote-specific control scheme. I'll still be getting the game for the 360 myself, but as the screenshots show the Wii version isn't looking too shabby.

Heart-Stopping Action Of 'Alone In The Dark' Comes To Wii And PlayStation 2

Atari's Apocalyptic Action Blockbuster Coming to Five Platforms, Gameplay Uniquely Adapted to Wii Control System

LYON, FRANCE - 13 November 2007 - Atari today announced that its forthcoming apocalyptic action blockbuster Alone in the Dark will launch for Wii and Playstation®2 in addition to Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3, and Windows. Alone in the Dark will continue the legacy of innovation started by the first Alone in the Dark game with state-of-the-art technology driving a captivating and entertaining original gameplay experience.

Developed by Hydravision, Alone in the Dark for Wii and PS2 follows the same story as the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC version, where over the course of one apocalyptic night, hero Edward Carnby must uncover the earth-shattering secret hidden in New York's iconic Central Park.

Hydravision has tackled the innovative and highly advanced technology driving Alone in the Dark on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC head-on, using the company's wealth of experience and proven technology. The versions for Wii and PS2 have been developed in parallel specifically to take full advantage of each console's capabilities. Both games push the hardware hard, incorporating many of the gameplay features found in the Xbox 360 version. On the Wii, the control system is specially adapted to make full use of the Remote and Nunchuck to manipulate objects in real-time, a key gameplay feature of Alone in the Dark, enhancing the player's immersion in the experience.

"Realising the enormous ambition of Alone in the Dark is a huge technological challenge, which becomes even more demanding on Wii and PlayStation 2," said Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production, Atari. "However, we're certain players will be impressed with what Hydravision have achieved on the two consoles, not least with the Wii game which is perfectly adapted to the gameplay thanks to the console's unique controllers."

Designed in the spirit of blockbuster entertainment and inspired by the gripping style of contemporary TV dramas, Alone in the Dark delivers a new level of narrative intensity, packed with action, plot twists and nail-biting cliff-hangers. With a story written by Eden Games and scripted by New York Times best-selling writer Lorenzo Carcaterra, Alone in the Dark sees one of video gaming's original innovators return to deliver an outstanding action gaming experience.

<![CDATA[ World Heroes Anthology Stateside This Spring ]]> worldheroesperfect.jpgAre you ready to beat up some historical figures? SNK Playmore USA is bringing yet another famous fighting franchise home to the PlayStation 2 with World Heroes Anthology, due out next Spring. It collects the entire World Heroes saga into one convenient package. You'll get World Heroes, World Heroes 2, World Heroes 2 Jet, and World Heroes Perfect. While their In Development page might have beat the press release to the punch, it's always nice to get an official target window. The game was released earlier this year in Japan with online fighting capability, though the press release for the game doesn't mention the feature, which one would think would be a pretty big detail to leave out. Still, with characters inspired by such infamous characters as Jack the Ripper, Billy the Kidd, Rasputin, Genghis Khan, and Jeanne d'Arc, it's like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure gone horribly, horribly wrong - and that is beautiful.

SNK PLAYMORE USA Announces World Heroes Anthology for PlayStation®2 system

Wall, NJ — Nov. 6, 2007 — SNK PLAYMORE USA CORPORATION, the U.S. publishing arm of the SNK PLAYMORE CORPORATION, today announced WORLD HEROES ANTHOLOGY for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.

WORLD HEROES ANTHOLOGY is a complete compilation of the WORLD HEROES series, one of SNK PLAYMORE CORPORATION's most popular 2D-fighting series. Included in the collection are WORLD HEROES, WORLD HEROES 2, WORLD HEROES 2 JET and WORLD HEROES PERFECT.

In WORLD HEROES ANTHOLOGY, players battle through history in a tournament facilitated by a time machine, so many of the game's dozens of characters are based on actual historical figures. WORLD HEROES ANTHOLOGY includes hand-to-hand combat as well as weapons-based fighting, and super-human abilities allow characters to perform powerful special attacks.

"WORLD HEROES ANTHOLOGY puts a twist on the tried-and-true 2D-fighter formula," said Ben Herman, president of SNK PLAYMORE USA CORPORATION. "The time-travel element allows for the inclusion of characters inspired by figures ranging from ancient philosophers to modern-day athletes."

WORLD HEROES ANTHOLOGY will be available for the PlayStation®2 system in spring 2008.
