Bought. So damn bought. This and the Last Blade series are my absolute favorite SNK fighting games. This IS the live game I've been waiting for. SNK has made me a happy guy today.
@Daniel Tolin: Not to mention an unbalanced pile of crap. For every good MUGEN creator, there are 100 who make the character so god awfully unbalanced that it ruins the entire game.
MUGEN seriously needs a standardization. Well, I guess it needs a reinforced standardization.
Damn it, I wish PSN was getting this. I would totally buy this if not for the fact that the 360 controller is utterly worthless for 2D fighters. I learned that the hard way with Fatal Fury.
@Busting makes Mister Jack feel good: here's my strategy against my own pocket: buy it, then MvC2, then KoF12, then play them all so you'll be pissed enough to buy an arcade controller.
@Busting makes Mister Jack feel good: As much as I wish PSN was getting this as well, Sony'll never go through the proper channels to get this on their network, and SNK isn't going to take the time out to work with them.
And who can blame them? As much as I'd like Sony and SNK to get along, Sony has always shafted SNK because of their anti-2D stance.
@Daniel Tolin: I have no clue which one I'm better with when we're talking PS3. Mainly because until a little while ago I'd never heard of Sanwa parts, so I have no idea if I'd be better with that or not, or what kind of parts the arcade machines I've played on used. It's so very confusing to me.
@the7k: Sony is anti-2D? I'm kinda surprised to hear that considering that their consoles arguably have the largest amount of 2D fighters. Also Odin Sphere.
I dont get why everyone thinks you have to play with the dpad, the analog on the 360 controller works better than the dpad on the PS3 controller if you ask me. I know I prefer it for games like SSF2T:HD which were much more responsive to me on the 360 analog than the PS3.
Granted I usually use an arcade stick, but the point is the 360 controller isnt so bad as long as you dont use the dpad.
@RuneX21: I tried using the analog too. It just didn't want to cooperate with me. I don't know if there's some kind of secret you figured out to make it work the way you need it to, but it just doesn't help me out when I'm trying to pull off special moves.
@Busting makes Mister Jack feel good: Remember how KOF2002 and 2003 were packaged together? It's because Sony didn't think the game was worth licensing unless they were bought packaged together.
Remember how KOFXI and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum were budget priced at $30 upon release? This was not SNK's choice - this was Sony's demand.
Remember how Sony cock-blocked the KOF series from being released on the PSX until KOF99, basically when the PSX was already dead? It's because Sony didn't think SNK games were worthy of being on the PSX. Sony has always had an anti-2D agenda, and the only company that was ever large enough for this not to be a problem was Capcom, because they were able to throw enough money as Sony for them to not give a shit.
@the7k: No kidding. Honestly thought, I probably wouldn't have bought 2002 and 2003 separately. And Neo Geo Coliseum sucks. How did all these games do sales-wise? If lower prices led to higher sales it might be hard to argue against their current strategy. Although KOF XII is being released at full price, which kinda sucks. I'm not trying to be greedy, I've just gotten used to not paying full price for SNK games. Oh well.
@the7k: uhh, weren't all of the KOF and SS games on PS1 in japan? They're all on the japan PSN store as well. I don't get your sony being anti-2d and anti-snk talk, you're only looking at US releases. Look at what was released in japan and your argument makes no sense. if you said SCEA was anti-snk, you might make sense. maybe. not really tho
Oh, you mean how a whole slew of fighters are showing up on the PS2 NOW! Ya know, when the system is for all intents and purposes already dead, and Sony'll take anything people decide to publish on it now!
@Busting makes Mister Jack feel good: Oh yeah, and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum was fun as hell. Maybe not very deep or technical, but fun as hell.
@Daniel Tolin: I understand the grievances with 2001 and 2002 - this was because at that time, the King of Fighters license was owned by a pachiko game company. I'd be like letting the people that make Caesar's Palace make the next Street Fighter.
I personally think that pricing KOFXI and the rest at $30 did nothing to help sales, and I support SNKs stance that it cost them a ton of money.
You price things lower if people are on the fence about buying the game. There are no people on the fence about buying SNK games. You either love them, hate them or have no idea who the hell they are. SNK fans are about as hardcore as they get. They could charge $100 for KOFXII and SNK fans would still buy it - just look at the price for Neo Geo carts.
@Massiah: I saw a post of yours earlier today in another thread, and was gonna make a comment on your avatar pic. But since this is more revelant, Rock Howard is my favourite character, combining the awesome-ness of Geese Howard & Terry Bogard.
@Massiah: One of the dozen higher tier characters? :p I half expect a Kevin flood just from people going with the "best" character in the game and because he shares letters with Ken's name.
@Skyline7284: To think people have beaten the game with under 20 deaths, too. I'm working my way through the circuitry set after beating Vlad, and I swear having to break through the boxes to get to the football and goal was a pain. I used to spam rockets on deathmatch levels, too, but that's getting less and less effective the further I get into the game.
Too bad the game kinda got shafted by the Live downtime and getting left off the press release. It really deserves better. I would enjoy the game if it just was comprised of Rugby Riot alone.
@KillerBee: Yep, I'd imagine that's part of it, but that must be a pain to do across 80 levels. Rank is based on K:D alone it seems with the last level reached acting as a tie breaker of sorts, so I think people can/will look to rack up lots of kills on the rugby, destroy object, and boss maps with their infinitely respawning enemies.
