Why are all the major events where cosplay can be found in London. Anyone know any in Birmingham? Right now I'm stuck with Halloween to fill my costuming void. :/ #cosplayfever
@StormTec: I'm more meaning game conventions. which I can only think of Eurogamer Expo.
Like PAX n TGS n all that get cospalyers, but there doesn't seem to be many events that get cospalyers.
I'd guess if you can think of 4 off the top of your head then you must actively seek them out.
Edit: hello... that didn't auto promote your comement. Woot they've finally fixed it
Well, there's GameCity in Nottingham (which is happening near the end of this month), and there's MultiPlay, which is a bigger one that happens in Middlesborough, I think? I can't recall. They're more game-centric events.
A lot of cosplayers go to anime conventions, actually. Though cosplay at these events aren't limited to anime characters. There's a lot of overlap between anime and videogames, so there are as many videogame character cosplay at these events as there are anime =)
And I think I go to a con a year. It's fun, if you don't mind a weekend of geekery XD #cosplayfever
@StormTec: If theres an event in Middlesbrough then it reenforces my "if there is they keep it damn quiet"
Cos only Event in Boro I know of is Middlesbrough Live #cosplayfever
Ah, that's right. It was MFestival, actually, and MultiPlay had a component within that festival (they held a huge LAN party, as is what they seem to do judging by their website), MFestival is in Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, my mistake. Not Middlesborough at all XD MFestival seems to be a bit more of a mainstream-y type of gaming event, more family oreinted.
And, to be fair, I only found out about MFes because of an advert for it in a game mag I bought. As for GameCity, I picked up a flier for it at one of the Notts uni while I was there on Tuesday, and it gets talked about in EDGE every so often too. Never been to either of them, unfortunately, despite me being right next door to Nottingham. Shame because Katamari creator was at the last one and I'd like to have met him =/ #cosplayfever
@deanbmmv: Boro would destroy cosplayers. The closest convention I've found to the Tees is all the way down in Leicester. Or Glasgow. Although APPARENTLY theres a convention happening in Middlesbrough soon, although I doubt that will go anyway but burnt to the ground by a chav mob. #cosplayfever
@Abaddon: Its great how Boro is so shite n Chav filled the closest n safest place to hold a cospaly event is
a) in another country
b)Specifcaly Glasgow of all places #cosplayfever
@LucasReis: See the only thing I could think folks would be confused is if they looked at this as if it was from Japan, where I'd guess its possible to get confused.
but these folks are UK based n our lasses look like lasses n the blokes look like blokes. #cosplayfever
@Outkastprince: It's cos we all watch Blue Peter as a kid, they show you haw to make stuff each week with the infamous "and heres one we made earlier", which complete misses out it took them many many hours. #cosplayfever
Interesting article. I am not into Second Life, but I watch animes, and think SOME neko/ hybrid charas are cute. They are also not REAL LIFE, and I don't wish to sleep with them. ;) I learned a little bit about the differences between the differing levels of furdom. It doesn't mean I'm into furries or banging animals, just because I read this article in it's entirety. I see a wide swing of the ban hammer coming through this thread of comments. I'm going to just duck for cover, and continue reading the rest of the site, which I really enjoy. For the trolls, flame baiters, and immature whiners- enjoy your vacation from Kotaku. :)
I'm gonna stay out of the furry hate parade (because I don't hate furries... just their porn)... so I just have one question:
Why do people use "neko" to describe cat/human hybrids? "Neko" is just the Japanese word for "cat"... that's all that it means! "Catgirl" or "catboy" makes more sense...
SL looks pretty cool for creative types. I can see how those who get into it get way into it.
The thing that always kept me away wasn't so much the furry stereotypes, but the wild, piecemeal inconsistency of design in it. It looks like walking around in a random 3D object library. I prefer a relatively consistent, if unreal, world - but I really have to applaud them for making such an open unrestricted system that actually works!
I'm not exactly sure what all the complaints are about. I was under the impression that we as human beings have some semblance of free will and can choose not to click on a given link if it does not appear interesting to us. I should know; I ignore links that I don't want to read all the time, and I was under the assumption that most everyone else did as well.
I'd be willing to bet that a good portion of the more than 17,000 people who have viewed this post so far clicked out of genuine curiosity. And hey, 17,000 pageviews means Fahey's doing his job very, very well. Let's not forget that Gawker's a business.
I think the only way for Kotaku to save face at this stage is to issue an apology and let Fahey go. This kind of thing shouldn't be acceptable on a big web news network. Furryism is wrong, and morally unacceptable.
As much as I dislike furries (and believe me, you're unlikely to meet a bigger furry-hater than I), people should be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want so long as they don't shove it in people's faces. Keep your weirdass shit where only other people into your weirdass shit will go, and make sure everyone is properly warned before being exposed.
Besides, who the hell are we going to make fun of if furries weren't around? Someone has to be at the bottom.

One: Great report. As an anthropomorphic fan, this is a superb resource.
Two: You got balls. To post this here. You got balls!
