The Get the Funk Out 01 track pack features three songs that are nearly synonymous with the funk genre. Even if you think you've not heard Earth, Wind & Fire's "Shining Star", The Average White Band's "Pick up the Pieces", or James Brown's ""Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine - Pt 1", believe me, you've heard them. At this point in human history those three songs are infused in the core consciousness of our species.

The same can't be said for the songs from Against Me!, The New Pornographers, and Papa Roach, also due out next week, but all five of their assembled songs are just that much cooler now for being released the same day as the Funk pack, which incidentally is March 17th on the Xbox 360 and March 19th on the PlayStation 3.

Of course I respect everyone's opinion, so I won't openly accuse you of being an inhuman monster for not enjoying the funk. I'll just think it quietly to myself.

Tracks:

Average White Band "Pick Up the Pieces"

Earth Wind & Fire "Shining Star"

James Brown "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine - Pt 1"

Against Me! "Thrash Unreal"

The New Pornographers "All the Things That Go to Make Heaven and Earth"

The New Pornographers "Use It"

Papa Roach "Last Resort"

Papa Roach "Lifeline"

<![CDATA[Don King's Prizefighter Soundtrack Is Funktastical]]> There is no way in hell I will every buy a copy of 2K Sports' Don King Presents: Prizefighter. I hate Don King, I'm not all that fond of boxing, and...wait, did you say Bootsy Collins? Awww dammit. That's right, Bootsy Collins is doing an original song for the upcoming fighting game, and when you add in songs by Parliament, James Brown, George Clinton, and Tower of Power, you've got an oddly funk-hungry Fahey on the verge of shelling out $60 based on the game's soundtrack alone.

Then of course I remember iTunes, but it was damn close there for a minute.

Joining Bootsy and the crew are some bands of the less funky persuasion, such as Run DMC, Suicidal Tendencies (though Infectious Grooves was pretty damn funky), Blue Oyster Cult, and Iggy Pop, so there really is something for everyone to remember to download from iTunes. Hit the jump for more info while I dig up a gift card I have lying around.

<![CDATA[Clip: Driver 76 Feels Like Bustin' Loose]]> Start your morning off right, with a little Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers, accompanied by some funky 70's style violence.

All you younger people need to know about the 70's is right here in this PSP Driver 76 trailer. Brown, orange, mustard - stars, cars, and funk.

Can't comment on the gameplay, but if the soundtrack has more like Bustin' Loose here, I'm sold.

<![CDATA[Games that Get the Funk Out]]>

Yesterday, for some unknown reason, I was in a pretty deep funk. I just didn't feel like doing anything, let alone working, writing or moving.

I ended up trudging through my day and finally, at the insistence of Mike MC, powered up my consoles in search of a game that would rid me of my blues. The game that ended up working for me was Guitar Hero 2. I played through about 30 songs straight and afterward felt much better for it.

What other games, do you think, offer you the power to play your problems away?
