The problem I find with the funk songs is they're all really horn heavy (which all good funk should be) and the guitar and drums just aren't going to be much fun to play on a game of this kind. (I didn't include bass because Vern from EWF is amazing...so you'll get a little something there.) They will be good party songs though so it fulfills that market.
@rise from your grave: Drums aren't going to be much fun to play? Are you out of your everfunking mind? Were you complaining about all the simplistic 3-chord guitar parts in punk songs?
@etchasketchist: Have to admit, not a huge punk fan and am actually a big funk fan. Just thought the songs could be better picked (earlier posts with some Bootsy, etc. said it best). Moving in the right direction though!
@rise from your grave: They're not always going to be able to find songs that fit all four instruments perfectly (look at AWB's vocal track this week)
When introducing a new genre, the key is to use a band that EVERYBODY has likely heard of (or at least ENOUGH people have heard of)
Look at their history:
Nu Metal used Disturbed. New Wave used Devo. Country used the Dixie Chicks. Blues used Stevie Ray Vaughn.
So with Funk, they're going with three songs that may not be the best on all four instruments, but have some star power to be recognized by all kinds of players. That gets their attention regarding "Funk" now being included and the next time if it's a band they're not as familiar with they'll think back to the last pack, and if they like it take a look at the new one.
@ninja_warrior: As others have said, Papa Roach is garbage, but James Brown is about to come back from the dead and beat you like you were one of his wives.
@LoopyChew: Sorry Loopy, but if he specified a song or band name, he would actually have to put some effort into writing that post instead of just copy pasting it from last week.
They should throw in "Erotic City" by P. Funk and "Brick House" by the Commodores... I mean how can you call yourself funk without George Clinton and Lionel Richie (pre-solo career)? :P
@CommentatorHatman: Ah don't be such a snob, Last Resort was alright back in the day. Just pretend your an angsty college student again and go with the flow.
@KaneRobot: I hope a lot of people at least grab the funk pack. I'm a vocalist most of the time now online...and I really want to sing those (well, those two since AWB is mostly percussion notes)

Can we get some Isaac Hayes or Curtis Mayfield up in this motherfucker? Better yet, how about some shit off of Mos Def's The New Danger.
Goddamnit, Rock Band just gets better and better. Pink Floyd?

OR is the (shitty) music industry just dropping crap into RB looking to make a buck? Thinking people actually give a damn about crap like that?
Hmm...only sales numbers will tell.

If the Alt-Country pack from a few weeks ago is any indication there's much more Funk on the way.
