i took SOTC as a puzzle game, first and foremost. it was amazingly complex and punishing on your first time through each monster. its what every game should be. every stage is a deliciously crazy giant monster that you have to over come and topple- not with a gun, or a jump on the head, but in a calculated, timed strike while after and several-minute-long MOVING rock climb. Nothing beats it. and i'd love to see it remade in 1080p for the PSN with a couple extra hard modes, or DLC monsters!!

I hate to say it Ueda, but as far as mechanics and design and responsiveness are concerned, yours aren't the best out there. You've prided yourself on making things artistically unresponsive for SoTC when you're riding the horse and trying to force your way up those huge Colossi, and I totally appreciate that. Accept the fact that your games aren't the most FUN to play. They are amazing works of art and some of my favorite games out there, but knocking a game like Mario Galaxy for not doing much very interesting with the mechanics coming from you isn't a great criticism.

I still say SoTC is what Zelda TP should have been. Link going to the Dark Dimension to bring Ganon back to Hyrule because Gant proved to be a far greater threat than Ganon ever was. The combined power of all three Triforces would be the only chance Hyrule has. But in order to resurrect Ganon and his power, Link would have to defeat all of the Colossi. Totally changing the constant rehash of dungeon crawling and item hoarding and heart container fetching that we've been doing since forever. And it's a better story to boot.
Nintendo could have taken a page out of SMB2's book...the american version...It was such a blast to play through that not only because it was totally different than SMB, but also because we had new enemies, and we could play with different characters.
Ueda wins...I agree. and yes GTAIV was a gorgeously rendered rehash.

While some users might understand it came from gaf, most just read the quote with out looking at the source.
I can't think of how many times some misstranslated info got blowed out of proportion.

It wasn't much of an insult (and if it were, it'll hardly land in in any real tourble), but those were subtle but harsh criticism of SMG.
Now Itagaki claiming he can make a better Pikmin than Miyamoto, that's something.

Itagaki is very ballsy, very ususual for a Japanese man in his position (well... from what I've seen, at least). He outright HATES Tekken, he drinks all the time, and isn't the least bit afraid of speaking his mind.
He's my hero.

serious sam had massive bosses, and so did duke nukem 3d for that matter. so what if you had to climb all over them? sure SOTC is a great game and all but i think hes being a bit big headed for claiming that the idea was 'stolen' from him

It's an impressive game, but it's not greatly fun.
However i'm less inclined to care about Ueda after his SMG comment.
