I can certainly understand why one would hesitate to pick up a copy of Ghostbusters until now. After all, it is a licensed movie game, more or less, and one based on a relatively old movie to boot. With most of the original cast involved in the project it sure seems like a no-brainer, but one can never be too safe these days. Now you can give the game a try before you buy on the Xbox 360, with the PlayStation 3 version following shortly after.

In other demo news, Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network also get demos for Codemasters' Fuel today, so if open world driving is more your thing, feel free to indulge.

<![CDATA[FUEL Release Delayed One Week]]> FUEL, originally scheduled to drop May 26, has been delayed to June 5, VG247 has reported. They say Codemasters confirmed it to them.

Maybe this explains why I haven't gotten my review copy yet. Of course, Joystiq points out that VG247 is a UK site, so it's not clear if the delay covers Europe only or if North America is included. Gamestop's showing the drop date as June 2.

<![CDATA[Fuel Is The Biggest Console Game Ever]]> With 5, 560 square miles of accessible in-game terrain, Codemasters' Fuel is the biggest console game of all time, and they've got the Guinness World Records certificate to prove it.

The award for largest playable area in a console game was awarded to Fuel developer Asobo Studios. Guinness World Records presented the developer with a certificate to commemorate the achievement, which will be included in the next printing of the Guinness World Records Gamers Edition.

"Largest playable area in a console game: The largest playable environment in a console game is 5,560 square miles (14,400 km²), and is featured in FUEL (Codemasters, 2009). The area features rivers, deserts, forests and mountains and was demonstrated at the offices of Guinness World Records, London, UK, on 20 May 2009."

Watch the video to see Asobo co-founders David Dedeine and Sebastian Wloch discuss the technology behind their record-setting game, and check out the photo below to see the team standing around holding a certificate.

<![CDATA[Fuel Tells Players Where To Go]]>
Magical floating sky arrows replace the standard GPS system in the post-apocalyptic world of Codemasters' Fuel.

I'm not exactly sure what Codemasters' marketing folks were thinking when they decided to create a trailer that compared modern-day car navigation systems with red arrows flying through the sky in the direction you are supposed to be heading. One is a relatively mundane technological tool, while the other is obviously a result of the dark magics that created the apocalypse in the first place. The game blames global warming, but once you start harnessing demonic energies to help you find the nearest Wal-Mart the world is pretty much screwed no matter what direction the temperature is moving.

<![CDATA[The Vehicles Of Fuel]]> If you're going to go open-world racing in the post-apocalyptic world of Codemasters' Fuel, you're going to need to pick the right vehicle.

Fuel provides players with 70 different vehicles to race across its 5,000 square mile world, ranging from the dinkiest dirt bikes to souped up SUVs and everything in between. Pick your weapon of choice and race through the career mode, or take things online with 16-player races. My favorite feature is probably the free roaming online mode, where 16 players can just get together and explore. With a world as large and varied as we're seeing in this video, you'll definitely want to bring some friends along.

Fuel is due out in May for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

<![CDATA[Codemasters Swag Report]]> Last Thursday's Codemasters event had some major pluses and minuses. I'm counting Overlord II as a plus – and all three times the speakers blew out as minuses.

The big drag, though, was the shortage of Nerf guns. Codemasters had ordered them special for the event and apparently, only 2/3 of their shipment showed up at the venue. I was lucky enough to get one, but I feel bad for those that had to go home with only the T-shirt and the day planner.

(Not pictured: Jumpgate medal – I suspect my cat has wandered off with it.)

<![CDATA[FUEL Looking Awfully Confined]]> For a game with no boundaries and 5,000-square miles to play in, this trailer sure does show a lot of traditional looking race courses.

I hope multiplatform, off-road racer FUEL hasn't lost its way. Last we heard, you to 16 players could race through places like the Grand Canyon. The game also sports full day and night cycles, and live weather systems that include tornadoes, thunderstorms, snowstorms and sandstorms.

We only have until May to find out.

<![CDATA[Fuel Producer - We Take You Down, Paradise City]]> Fuel, says Codemaster's exec producer David Brickley, is soooooo big that it makes Paradise City - off of Criterion's Burnout - look like a postage stamp by comparison.

The game - as Codemasters has been telling us for a while now - has a open play area equivalent to 5,000 square miles. It's not a great comparison - even by Brickley's calculations (he used Powerpoint, bless) Paradise City would need to be a postage stamp about 2.5 miles across - but I think we get his point.

So flippin' huge is the game that if made using 'traditional methods' (we think he is referring to data compression rather than hand tools and leather aprons) the game would fill a whopping 4 Blu-ray discs as opposed to the still fairly ginormous 1 Blu-ray disc it actually takes up.

<![CDATA[New Fuel Screenshots Feature Tornadic Insanity]]> Back at Leipzig we gave you a first look at FUEL and honestly it's really hard not to be completely stoked about it. Every time we get new images for the game I want to go get into my car - drive to Oklahoma - and go chase tornadoes. The game will include other weather effects such as thunderstorms, sandstorms, snowstorms. In the end FUEL is starting to look like Motorstorm on crack.

<![CDATA[The First FUEL Trailer]]>
A few days ago we told you about FUEL, the new racing game Codemasters announced at Leipzig. Today you get to see what it looks like in all of its glory. It kind of has the Motorstorm feel to it, but with a really cool climate twist and an insane 5,000 square mile playing area.

<![CDATA[The 5,000 Square-Mile Racing Game]]> Developer Codemasters is unveiling multi-plat title FUEL at the Leipzig GC. What's FUEL? It's a racing game, so big that it deserves ALL CAPS. It's hailed to have the "largest racing environment to appear in gaming — ever." The game supposedly has a 5,000 square-mile playing area with "no boundaries". Up to 16-players race it out in D.I.Y. cars through places like Nevada's Grand Canyon. The game boasts a full day-and-day cycle and even features a weather system with tornados, thunderstorms, snowstorms and sandstorms. Hope it looks and plays as promising as it sounds.

<![CDATA[Week in Games: Diddy Kong Racing Edition]]>

A ton of new releases coming out this week with a little bit of everything from RPG's and strategy games to racing and sports titles. The PS2 gets quite a bit of love this week with five games on it's dance card. The rest of the titles are pretty evenly distributed amongst all the portables and consoles, with the exception of the PS3 which is strangely absent from this list.
