New Frontlines Map Appears On Xbox Live

The first of five new maps for THQ's Frontlines: Fuel of War has hit Xbox Live, available now for the low, low price of free. Boneyard features Western Coalition and Alliance forces facing off at a fully functional nuclear missile facility, which is sure to mean ensuing hilarity for all involved. The new map also features several new toys to play with, including the automatic shotgun, Red Star transport heli, and the enticingly named rocket jeep.

I was really hoping Frontlines would do better so I could use the Top Spot image above, but I think sharing a name with dog flea medication and a map called Boneyard is enough to run with it.

Week in Games: Patapon Edition

Quite a few titles out this week but I only have eyes and ears for one game... Patapon. I'll also be checking out Lost Planet on my PS3 if I can manage to tear myself away from my little rhythmic friends. What's on your list this week?

Patapon (PSP)
Action plus rhythm plus great art style equals awesome.

Frontlines: Fuel of War (X360, PC)
Battle for control of the earth's depleted natural resources.

Lost: Via Domus (X360, PC, PS3)
Solve the mysteries of the island.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (X360, PC, PS3)
The Nazi's won WWII and boy are we in trouble.

Naruto: Ninja Destiny (DS)
A Naruto 3D fighter for your DS.

The Sims 2: FreeTime (PC)
Exactly what the Sims need. More free time. Bastards.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (PS3)
The world of giant bugs comes to the PS3.

Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed (WII)
Aliens and penis jokes: a winning combination.

Mazes of Fate DS (DS)
Determine your fate in this RPG with mazes.

Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None (WII)
Live (or die) through Agatha Christie's greatest mystery.

ArmA: Gold Edition (PC)
ArmA: Armed Assault and ArmA: Queen's Gambit together again for the first time.

Heavenly Guardian (PS2)
Animated 2D shooter action.

Puzzle Guzzle (PSP)
Guzzle this puzzle!

massive multiplayer

Frontlines To Support 50 Player Matches

When does a game slip from multiplayer to massively multiplayer? Devs on the Kaos Studios forums have confirmed that Frontlines: Fuel of War is getting dangerously close, with both PC and Xbox 360 versions supporting up to 50 players in multiplayer matches when the game is released later this month, moving the title from 'meh' to must-buy on many a gamer's shopping lists - including my own. Not only do I revel in the sort of chaos two 25 man teams can cause when outfitted with futuristic weapons and set loose on the battlefield, 50 players means I have plenty of room to suck without being noticed. Don't worry PS3 players. Though Frontlines was canceled for your console, you're still getting Resistance 2 with 60 player support somewhere down the line, so it's all good.

PS3 Version Of Frontlines: Fuel Of War Officially On Empty

It would appear that video game retailers wiping the PlayStation 3 version of Kaos Studios' shooter Frontlines: Fuel of War from their databases wasn't done just for giggles. It would appear that GameStop called both guys who pre-ordered the game for a reason. THQ officially canceled the PS3 edition of the game today, previously thought to just be delayed, using the same axe to kill the release of the PlayStation 2 version of Destroy All Humans!: Big Willy Unleashed. Don't go jumping off any buildings, now, kids, despite how hard it may seem to put this terrible, terrible news behind us.

There's always Haze! Oh wait...

Frontlines Dev Shines Light On PS3 Delay

When publisher THQ announced a series of delays, pushing three of its marquee titles—Frontlines: Fuel of War, de Blob and Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon—one title stood out curiously, as only the PlayStation 3 version of Frontlines was coming later than its PC and Xbox 360 counterparts. Gamespot's recent Q&A with the game's senior producer, Joe Halper, reveals that "the Unreal Engine has some challenges with the PS3—you'll see with other developers—it's kind of a little late in the game with Epic, which is unfortunate." His comments were made before the announcement of the PS3 delay, but he later illustrates that every platform has its challenges. More »

giant delay face

THQ Hops On Delay Bandwagon

Not content to let EA and Capcom steal their thunder, THQ has delayed three of its upcoming releases, including Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon, de Blob and Frontlines: Fuel of War, citing "quality." The trio have been moved out of the first quarter of 2008, into an unspecified window in the company's 2009 fiscal year. That fiscal year happens to start April 1, 2008, for the record, so don't . Also, in the interest of further clarification, I should mention that only the PlayStation 3 version of Frontlines has been pushed back, with the Xbox 360 edition of the war game still on target. Shocking, isn't it?

Corporate sadness and apologetic execs at the official release.
