The first GT was what really got me into cars and car racing. It reintroduced me to the Lotus marque (Europa was a "dream car" when I was 6) and had me buy a Lotus several years later.

Top Gear and GT4 subsequently influenced in me replacing the Lotus with a new Evo IX 4 years ago.

Even though it pales in comparison to GT5P, I still play GT4 occasionally (since I still haven't completed it). Some of the GT4 races are a lot harder than anything in GT5P though. #granturismo

i played the heck outta GT3. but GT4 didn't seem too improved and i'm not holding out for GT5. there's something about it that feels dry, like it's lacking in the excitement of racing somehow... #granturismo

GT1 is on my TOP 5 best games EVER.
When I watched the intro, my jaw almost literally dropped. It neevr happened since. I remember playing it for three years, and buying it several times over. The incredible thing is that EVRY SINGLE TIME I played it, I loved it more. Did you read that sentence? Did you, reallly? FOR THREEYEARS, EVERY new play made me love the game even more. Never a game has revolutionized its genre more than GT1. GT2, GT3, GT4 had no chnace of living up to that. Even though GT3 came close. But GT1 was a giant leap for gaming in general, EVERYTHING in it was perfect; the Music, the speed, the never-before-seen "Gran Turismo" carreer mode, the stats, the cars, the atomsphere, the tracks, the difficulty curve, the multiplayer , the replays..ah those fucking replays.
Ah, that Garbage song..and the disappointment that GT2 was (my most eagerly anticipated game before the insane hype for MGS2 killed everything else in sight)
It's up there with (in no particular order) MGS1, Tetris,Great Sex, good Coffee, nature, beautiful Music as one the stimulating THINGS EVER. #granturismo

everybody I knew was stunned by the first GT. there was nothing remotely similar, from style to the graphics, it really was something special at the time. #granturismo

@ThreeOneFive: PGR doesn't really know what it is. Sometimes it feels arcadey and others there a slight touch of simulation and it just feels off.

No.3 should be GTR...or perhaps it should be no.2. Either way, you can't exclude it. #granturismo

I remember being blown away by the first GT. I walked into a game store not knowing what it was and I saw it running. I had to ask the sales guy, "What game is that?". He said "Oh, it's Gran Turismo". I have been in love ever since.

When Grand Turismo 3 came out for the Playstaion 2, there was not a lot of "realistic" racing games. Later on, in the gap of Grand Turismo 3 to Grand Turismo 4 (after Prologue), there was an increase of racing games from many different companies.

Now, we have quite a selection between arcade-like racing games to realistic racing games for all platforms. However, I am interested after GT5 launches, will "realistic" racing games continue to sell like the previous GT games. #granturismo

@Weirdwolf Is Restared To Glory!: I remember my neighbor bringing home their PlayStation and me going over to watch. We were thoroughly impressed with Gran Turismo's graphics.

Funny to think that back then my friends were calling that "realistic" and now that we're pretty damn close it seems I see people wanting to point out the "faults" quite often. #granturismo

    @Paradox me:

When I started gaming it was black and white boxes on the screen so pretty much any graphics are a vast improvement. It always amuses me when you hear people bashing the wii as having N64 standard graphics or that a game with graphics that aren't uber-realistic is unplayable. #granturismo

@Ash Crimson: I agree. It had the dual effect of boosting the PS, and helping doom the N64.

EDIT: The Saturn took care of itself.

As much as I hate FF7, I have to agree with this partly. It was quite ground breaking and made the ps1 a smash hit. Metal gear solid 1 did play a big role also though. #granturismo

@rekenner: That maybe, but FF7 left a more lasting impact on the industry. There's more FF fans than GT fans. When is the last time you saw a GT convention. Where gamers dressed up as their favorite driver? Oh yeah never.

Oh and unlike Polphony Digital. Square actually releases sequels on a steady basis. They don't take decades long to make a games. #granturismo

    No it didn't!!!

Wipeout, Ridge Racer, Destruction Derby, Rapid Racer..
THOSE are what made the Playstation.

(And Tomb Raider, and Crash Bandicoot, but they're not racers, obviously!!) #granturismo

@Jayenkai: Tomb Raider was ahead of it's time and a substantial game in the history of Video Games, but that gets lost in boobs and the fact that Mario64 came out around the same time. #granturismo
