I am curious as to why so many of these console games are having trouble with the multiplayer aspect of the game. It seems that every game that comes out that has a big online part to them needs to get a patch as soon as it comes out. ex: MGS-multiplayer, Castle Crahsers, GoW2(?), GTA4, drawing a blank on any other right now.
Is there something that the developers are missing as far as programming the network sections of the game? As someone who has hopes of getting into the industry within the next couple of years, this seems strange to me.
Honest Question: Does anyone know what part of these networked games seems to have the most trouble?
@CasualGeek: My guess would be a simple lack of stress testing. There are a lot of aspects to games that get uncovered when thousands of people start hammering away on it that you would never have found when only a few hundred were testing.
@Superhacker75mil: As far as I can tell they used one Blind Guardian song and it's the for the opening cinematic.
The game definitely feels like previous hack and slash consoles games, but a bit more refined (not to say that it's "finished" but it's deeper) than the previous.
@zgreenwell: "Sacred 2 lends credence to the claim that console ports in a genre normally reserved for the PC can work. In fact, with the exception of menu interfaces and loading times in towns, this is actually better than the PC version"
"That being the case, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, a series very much made in the Diablo mold, may just be a better game on consoles than it was on Windows-based platforms."
"I can hardly believe it. Sacred 2's interface almost universally works better on console than it does on PC. Maybe it's the extra development time, but everything from inventory management to potion usage and skill activation flows better on a gamepad."
Sacred 2 turns out to be a great couch game, largely because you can play co-op with a friend at your side. But the real surprise is that the folks at Ascaron managed to create a mostly great interface for the XB360 and PS3 controller, giving you faster and easier access to more combat abilities than you could use in the PC version."
@randomspirits: Seems to work pretty well. It seems to target the nearest creature to you in your field of vision. There are some oddities here and there. In a cave in particular, there was a rat close by and my dryad (basically an archer) was targeting something way off in the distance rather than the rat. Took a little maneuvering to get it to target the closer target. But incidents like that are few and far bewteen.
Is this a game in flow with games like Champions of Norrath or Gauntlet? Hack N slash, loot grabber, dungeon crawler? If so I'm all over it, I have a hankering for another game like that.
Only a couple of minor quibbles, first that the story is completely forgettable and felt like an after thought...but that has no real impact on the action. It's open world, so you are free to explore and do side quests for hours before even touching the main campaign quests, which is cool. It also has a ridiculously deep character development/skill system. While there aren't a lot of classes or powers, the ability to modify your character and those powers is a little overwhelming at first.
Ditto. I've been told that you can't trade items between players on local co-op, which sort of limits the game. If that's true, we're waiting until that bit is patched out.
@sqlrob: It's true that there's no local trading yet. Ascaron is making it sound like it'll be patched in the next few days. So we'll see.
Other than that, the local coop is great. :) Very little confusion on screen. Only part that sucks is inventory and character management. Only one person can do it at a time, and it basically pauses the game.
@thegreatpablo: if I recall the only way we could really trade items in Norrath was to actually go into your inventory and then drop the item. Then your friend would come over and pick it up. I'm sure that for now you could do that in Sacred 2 to work your way around the trading issues, right Pablo?
@PhatsMahoney: Unfortunately not. You can't drop items. There have been several proposed work arounds, like dropping the item, using your hero's chest (in town inventory), etc. But none of them work.
The only way to get around it is really clunky. One of the players has to go online and meet up with someone. They can trade the item to that player. Then you have to log off of that account, log onto the other account where the secondary character is saved (the one you want to have the item) and then meet the online player and have them trade it back to you.
@thegreatpablo: added thought, is there a weight limit to what you can carry? Will you eventually be bogged down and forced to pass up items until you can make it to a shop to sell your goods if you can't drop your shitty items?
I think this is the first time one of my tips was published! Makes me feel all warm and gooey inside.
That said, I've really enjoyed the time I've spent in Sacred 2. The no trading in local coop has been a real downer, but news that a fix is coming makes it bearable...for now.
@glassdevaney: I agree to disagree, as a PS3 owner, shit like this pisses me off, but frankly I don't blame Sony for not 'ponying up' and paying extortionist amounts of money for things like this. Especially considering how hard it has been for Bethesda to actually make the friggin' thing work, I don't blame them for taking the bill and running with it. If you think the 360 version of this DLC is botched, God I would hate to see the PS3 version. It would probably kill the system.
Someone just told me that once you go to the Pitt, you can't ever go back to the Capital Wasteland. Is that true or is he mistaken? Has anyone confirmed this?
@lordargent: This just in...they're pulling the 4th version offline. Yes, that's right, they skipped right past patching THIS version and went to the next one.
I'm not really sure why everyone's complaining about a program to adjust the sensitivity of the drums. People were having issues with the red one not picking up light hits, no? Well then yes, more than likely, that was a calibration error in the set, not necessarily a hardware issue. If something as simple as this works, then by god, this is a much faster way to go about getting it working then sending it out and having to wait for a replacement. Don't have a PC? I'm sure you have friends that do. And even after that, now you'll have a MIDI to USB cord, so you can hook the drums up to your PC as a MIDI input device. How long do you think it'll take before someone codes an app specifically for the guitar hero drums? Hell, some Frets on Fire support with the drums would be nice in itself.
On another note, I must be among the internet's minority of users that hasn't had any issues with the drum set. Works perfect. My friend thought it wasn't working right, but quickly realized he was hitting the side of the drum pad, which only picked up his hits about half the time.
@Fireflynik: overall my drums are fine except for my orange cymbal. its playable but i don't want to hit the thing so damn hard!
especially for the quieter songs...
still no one has mentioned that the general difficulty on the game has changed dramatically. i can play a ton of songs on expert and routinely get 4 stars plus on hard in a vast majority of the songs.
well, except for that Ted Nugent song, the beginnings is kinda tricky...

Where do they use the Blind Guardian songs, and which ones are in?
I'm very curious about this aspect of the game, and if it's a solid Norrath/Dark Alliance style game, then this kinda' thing could seal the deal.
...provided I'm still functioning in the next couple of days or weeks...
