On November 22, that ambition's being realized live in Tokyo.

The small-ish production will feature an arrangement of 61 songs, performed in medley form. I'm not up on my Tactics soundtrack, but Original Sound Version reports that that's just 10 songs shy of the entire thing. Impressive for a mostly amatuer production.

Original Sound Version goes on to say there will be saxophones (which is weird, but not unwelcome). The banner for the production announces that there will be two shows at Tachikawa City Office in the Amyu- Tachikawa grand hall, Tokyo. So, if you're around, you've got time and a passion for Tactics (which doesn't get a whole lot of love from the Distant Worlds concert), go for it.

Thanks for the tip, Jayson! And thank you, Bash, for helping me read kanji because I suck at it.

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Tactics Gets Rated, Likely PSN Bound]]> The guys at One Last Continue went panning for ESRB gold and found this nugget: Final Fantasy Tactics got a rating for the PS3, which likely means it's going to PlayStation Network soon.

Friday, Bash informed us that FF Tactics would be among the next batch of Square Enix "Ultimate Hits" releasing July 30, but only in Japan. Well, fret not dear North American gamer, it sounds like at least one of those will be coming your way.

OLC points out the game is also available on the PSP. But sometimes, it's not so much about the playing as it is the having, isn't it?

<![CDATA[Crystal Defenders Final Fantasy Game Hits iPhone]]> The Final Fantasy Tactics-themed iPhone game revealed in the pages of Famitsu back in October has now arrived, as Square Enix unleashes Crystal Defenders for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

While the official title of this $7.99 iPhone game doesn't contain the words "Final Fantasy", Crystal Defenders is based on FF Tactics through and through, using job classes from the series as well as extensively using the A2's music throughout the menus and gameplay. It's basically a defense simulator, in which you place your units on the field and start the enemy waves, hoping you've built up enough forces to stem the tide.

There are three levels of play - W1 to W3 - each increasing in complexity. From what I've played of it so far it's an entertaining little title, but then anything that puts tiny black mages at my fingertips would have to work pretty hard to fail in my book. Check it out now at the iTunes Store. Thanks Fabian for pointing the game out!

<![CDATA[Original Final Fantasy Tactics Promo]]>

Kotakuite GameFan1980 was digging through some game discs and ran across an old PSX demo disc. On popping it in he was treated to this great promo for the original Final Fantasy Tactics. Pretty great stuff here for Final Fantasy fans and is rather lengthy for a thing of this sort, coming in at 2:17 (that's two minutes, not two hours). The voiceover is great and the guy gives a fairly dramatic reading to such great lines as "Be clever, be ruthless, or be dead!" Classic.

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Hands On]]> I kind of wanted to say "stylus on," but at least in the demo, there is no such thing—it makes no use of the touchscreen at all. Which is fine in a way, since I'm not interested in a tacked-on touchscreen gimmick. At the same time, it'd make sense on the battlefield for selecting spaces to move to or attack, since tapping the square would be much faster than fumbling with the d-pad. It's natural enough it's the first thing I tried to do, actually. That aside, the system's straight from the rest of the Tactics series, so I jumped right in without bothering to glance at the control layout. The best way to wrap the game in a neat little description is that it looks like FFT; it plays like FFT; it is Final Fantasy Tactics. Just on a DS. And that's not a bad thing.

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Tactics PSP Trailer, Take Two]]> Here's a much better version of the Final Fantasy Tactics PSP trailer than the one we posted back on the 17th. While this one lacks the festive castle ambiance and the people walking by it, it makes up for it by being able to be heard.

Seeing "The Zodiac Brave Story" flash across the screen while that theme plays never fails to give me chills. What I had thought were 2D cut scenes now look to me to be 3D with hand-drawn textures overlaid. I already own two copies of FFTactics for the PS1 (original and Greatest Hits) and now it definitely looks as if I'm going to have to get a third. And a PSP. Curse you, Squeenix!

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Tactics PSP Trailer]]> Ok, so the cam's a little shaky, it's filmed from an odd angle and there's people walking by, but there's enough here to pique the interest of Final Fantasy fans, I'm sure. No a whole lot of information on where this was taken although it looks to be some sort of medieval castle set with a plethora of candelabras and a nice widescreen T.V.

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy's Handheld Ivalice Alliance]]>

If you can't get enough of Final Fantasy XII and Tactics' Ivalice setting, you're in luck. Jump Magazine scans reveal that the upcoming FFXII: Revenant Wings is just one of three games sharing the setting coming to handhelds. Dubbed the Ivalice Alliance, Revenant Wings will be joined by Final Fantasy Tactics - The Lion War on PSP, and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - The Sealed Grimoire.

The PSP title is apparently a port of the original Final Fantasy Tactics with new jobs, like the ever nummy Onion Knight, and brand new cut scenes to help the story along. They aren't saying much about A2 yet, though assuming A2 means Advance 2, it could very well be a GBA title? I can't read Japanese, and our resident squiggle translator isn't in at the moment.

Not sure how I feel about the redo of the original FFT. I would have preferred a whole new adventure on the PSP rather that new bells and whistles for a game I've played through 4 times already. Still, should be a great way for those who missed out the first time round.

Full scans after the jump!
