The game, dual-shipping on the Wii and Nintendo DS for euphoric connectivity, will land at retail on March 24th.

Both the Wii and DS versions of Echoes of Time will set you back a budget-priced and outrageous $39.99 USD, respectively. The console and portable versions share almost identical graphics, making it look pretty bad, even for a Wii game, and lush and gorgeously rendered in 3D, also respectively.

Square Enix touts the single-player to multiplayer transition as "seamless," something we simply can't wait to test against the old Kotaku Seam-o-meter this Spring. Full press release after this.

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes Of Time Blurs Wii-DS Line In Spring 09]]> Square Enix announced today it is bringing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes Of Time to North America in Spring 2009, an interesting cross-platform multiplayer action-RPG that is playable on the Nintendo DS and the Wii.

Yes, the debate for worst looking Wii game is over. It's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes Of Time, which wins by default for having the look of a DS game — quite intentionally too. Okay, it's actually still Cruis'n, but how many times can we kick that dog?

We're still trying to wrap our noodles around this whole playable on the Nintendo DS and Wii thing, online and off, but it certainly sounds interesting. We'll re-read the press release one more time to try and hope that we understand what Square Enix is doing before it ships the game on both of Nintendo's platforms early next year.

<![CDATA[First Look At Final Fantasy CC (The One You Can Play On DS AND Wii)]]> Remember that weird, weird stuff about a Final Fantasy game that would be playable on both Wii AND DS? Here's the details. The game - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time - will be using something called the Pollux Engine, which just like the label says, allows for cross-platform play. That means people can play together across both systems: you on a DS, a buddy on the Wii. It works by basically porting the DS game to the Wii, re-arranging the screens from top-to-bottom to left-to-right (and adding in an XBLA-style border to boot). Why, then, you'd want to play it on Wii is anyone's guess, but everyone's been asking for bettter Wii/DS connectivity, so here you go.

<![CDATA[New Final Fantasy Game Playable On Both Wii AND DS? Huh?]]> Before we go any further, know that the full details on this are a little scarce, and we imagine we'll only get the whole story at TGS next week (or during the Nintendo presser in a few hours). But the latest issue of Famitsu says that upcoming Square Enix RPG Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will be playable on both the Wii and DS. Same game, available on both systems. Meaning that the Wii version is - yes - essentially a port of a DS game. There's some other stuff about being able to play cross-platform (which is presumably the whole point of this), ala Crystal Chronicles, but again, we'll hold off on getting too excited until we get the full details from Square Enix next week.
