First Street Fighter IV Product Announced
Have a gander at the first Street Fighter IV figurine. That's of course Chun-Li and Chun-Li's thighs — not to mention Chun-Li's massive feet. (You know what they say about girls with big feet? We don't.) It is a rather nice Chun-Li statue. The ten inch figurine will set you back US$100 and is limited to 700 individually numbered pieces. If that's out of your price range, there is also a 4 inch statue as well that goes for $10. Press release after the jump. More » -

2 Girls, 1 Cup (And A Witty Japanese Pun)
Not only is pantsu flashing fighter Ikkitousen hitting the PSP, but it's also rolling out the limited edition goods! Ikkitousen is inspired on Chinese epic Romance of Three Kingdoms and is set against a backdrop of warring high school students. The PSP version, called Ikkitousen Eloquent Fist, is getting a figure set that features Hakufu and Hakufu's flirty, booze drinkin' mom Goei. While Westerners will be quick to see the (unintentional?) 2-girls-1-cup joke, the actual Japanese joke is a pun and has quite a different meaning! This is an "oyako donburi figure" set: "Oyakodon" literally means "parent-and-child donburi" and refers to a dish that consists of egg, chicken and rice. And "Donburi" is a "rice bowl dish." Geddit? HILARIOUS. More » -

A Clinical Look at Triggerheart Exelica
This Triggerheart Exelica figurine looks pretty pedestrian, no? It's just a $150, 26cm Exelica fig in her trademark armor. That's it, nothing to see, move along! So not MAXIMUM RISKY material. Or wait. Is it? More » -

Bandai Makes Lucky Star Fugly
Ack! POM-POM HANDS!! Here's a toy figurine of Tsukasa Hiiragi from Lucky Star. It's made by Bandai, better known for its Gundam modeling. At ¥850 (US $8.45), it's certainly not an upper end figure as clearly even by its overall freakish appearance. We're sure it has a good personality, though. More » -

Figurine maker Kotobukiya has done a fine job with Master Chief. Its badass Master Chief from last summer was pretty great as were its blue and red Spartans. And it's latest Master Chief? Ditto on pretty great. The Halo 3 statue features changeable hands and weapons. It lists for around US $90 and goes on sale this June. And the one is, well, pretty great, too. More » -

Final Fantasy Figures Get Small, Cute
This October, Square Enix is rolling out more stuff for you to buy. Cute stuff, at that! Dubbed Final Fantasy Miniature Trading Figures Vol. 1, these mini-figurines will feature adowable versions of Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy X's Yuna, Final Fantasy XII's Vaan, Final Fantasy VIII's Rinoa Heartilly and Final Fantasy XII's Penelo. SNK's Iroha, Worn Out And Tired
They may flash empty-headed smiles, but fan service characters have it hard. Take SNK's Iroha from Samurai Spirits. Don't let her curves fool you, she's actually a crane who's morphed into an obedient maid. With a back-story like that, the character is bound to have pathos. This new Iroha PVC statue captures her worn, exhausted look. Just look at those bags! No, not those — the ones under her eyes. Sure, the figurine is ugly, but that's what makes it so great. This is a woman who's worked. Poignant, really. More » -

Foreigners Flock To Akihabara
Hey, it's a foreign dude! In Akihabara!! Looking at nerdy Japanese things!!! News site France 24 has an interesting piece up on how otaku culture has become a big Japanese tourist draw. Above, that's 20 year-old Frenchman Charles Mortreuil who's looking at plastic panties. Mortreuil says he grew up with anime and manga, and he traveled all the way to Japan just to see the place with his own eyes. Understandable, and I think most Kotaku readers can definitely relate, myself included. Hoping to reach out to foreigners, Akiba is somewhat geared to tourists. For example, the newly opened Tokyo Anime Centre offers guidance in various languages for international otaku. The Tokyo Anime Centre was designed by Pokémon creator Masakazu Kubo, and recieved 300,000 visitors last year — a mere 4 percent were foreign, though. As locals can tell you, 4 percent foreigners is pretty darn good. Certainly by Japan standards, at least. More » -

Japanese toy enthusiasts, take note. Later this year, toy maker MediCom is releasing 1/2 inch tall Halo 3 Master Chief Kubrick figures in red, green, blue and clear Active Camo. This isn't the first time MediCom has made gaming Kubricks, and mark my words, it won't be the last! The four pack is available for a limited time only and should set you back about US $20. A small price to pay for some small figurines. More » -

Patrick Macias Covers Wonder Festival2007
One of my favorite Japan writers Patrick Macias has written up his Wonder Festival 2007 coverage. Light on the game stuff, but heavy on the otaku, Macias dug up the off-beat: Figurine parts, Godzilla, pregnant doll and a neat otaku shirt. He blogs: More » -
