Mr. Burns: Balderdash! Why, I once watched "Gentleman" Jim Corbett fight an Eskimo fellow bare-knuckled for a hundred and thirteen rounds! Of course, back then, if a fight lasted less than fifty rounds, we demanded our nickel back!
For those who don't know, FN4 was segregated into separate and distinct strategies:
1) Body-spamming. By throwing continuous low-punches, you might get blocked, but you can break through the guard and hit anyway, reducing their stamina faster than you're spending it on punching them. Punching at the body is also safer than punching at the head because you can only get a counter-opportunity when you hit the block button, not while you're simply holding it. So if the spammer avoids being countered, they can safely pound on the opponent's block.
2) Haymaker-fest. The player does nothing but throw non-stop haymaker punches because the stamina cost is negligible. Though they can be stopped, novice players can't stop all of them, and it only takes a few to make a big difference. Since there's little stamina cost, it doesn't hurt to try this.
3) Simu-boxers, the rare few who want to play the game as if they were actually boxing. This is how the game was intended to be played, and it's fun, but it's relatively ineffective. #1 and #2 are FAR easier since they only involve mashing buttons, and they turn out to be more effective. The ultimate goal of a simu-boxer is to become #5 while still acting like an actual boxer. (And many have managed to do this).
4) Counter-punchers. Basically, just perfectly time a block, sidestep, or duck, and you can counter for huge damage. Roughly speaking, on a scale of 1-100, punches are a 10, haymakers are a 40, and counters are 100. The game pivots around who lands the most counters since it takes about 10 clean punches to equal a counter punch. Simu-boxers work counter-punches into their routine, but really, in order to win, you don't need to bother with the simulation movements, just wait for them to punch and counter it.
5) Block/duck-spammers. Since counter-punches deal massive damage, but are hard to time correctly, these people just dodge and block as fast as possible, hoping for a lucky counter-opportunity. They can't manually time dodges and blocks to become #4, so they settled for #5.
This update is intended to get rid of players flocking to #1, #2, and #5and getting them to do #3, and hopefully graduate to #4.
The only problem left is for #4 players at the top, since going on the offensive is really dangerous when all the top players can counter at will. This makes fights heavily biased towards defense, and very few punches being exchanged, which doesn't really fit actual boxing. But this is a minor problem since few are high enough in the rankings to have to worry about this.
I just picked this up yesterday and I love it. What happened to the button control scheme dlc though? Because with this stick system I can see easy openings but not be able to hit them because of the stupid stick only control scheme. I find myself relying a lot on the a button special punch because I know where it will hit every time, but it takes a long time. I end up having to rely on spam to win my matches
i still have to buy the game.
but some DLC pricing has become ridiculous.
to me $9.99 should be a map pack with at least 4 maps and 4 weapons and some new forces or game modes.
full games can be up to $14.99 depending on longevity and type of game
and characters / skins should be $0.99 or $1.99 if they introduce new fighting styles or something.
and puzzle games my range from $4.99 to $9.99 but no puzzle game should exceed that cause most of them are available on the net in some form or another.
and games that are literally a copy of an existing free game (zuma , mahjong etc) should be $5.99 at the most.
anyway that is my price rating system regarding DLC of any kind.
so this is a no go.
this should cost either $2.99 if they are skins only or $5.99 if they introduce new fighting styles
*Darn. I just bought this game like 2 or 3 weeks ago. Thanks, EA. =/ I'll probably wait for a DLC pack that has all of the characters for like 15 bucks in the future. . It'll happen.

@hot_heart: Yes, the days of fist fighting is long gone.
I knew this once the guy I was about to face start pumping up his shoe in the late 90's, I knew then the future was bleak at best.
