@ShaggE: Yeah, that's what I was hoping. With no account needed and direct downloads it was my favorite site for demos. I guess I will go through Steam to get most of them now. At least for the few they do offer.
Oh no.... This is the wrong thing to post on teh intranets! do you know what you have just done!? Billions of hackers and gamers alike will be ripping that site along with all of it's associate sites to shreds. this is beyond anything we've seen before.... it may very well lead to...the end of the internet...via kotakuing to death.
Yahoo! just closed Briefcase down as well, citing that the paltry 30 MB was outclassed by e-mail, but I suspect the cost of maintaining it must have factored into the decision as well. Everyone is cost cutting these days.
@Andrew Alexandrescu: i've been there before a couple times to play the demo for this game called "Penumbra Overature". it looks like an epic PC game and I think it plays similarly to Half Life 2, but the problem is, my computer couldnt play it at more than 2 FPS, because my PC is not built for stuff like that. >:(
@LllusionX:Cooking grenades for the Helghast: ??? Penumbra overture has very low system specs, what problem are you having if you can play half life2???? it's not like half life though... it's a first person survival horror, more emphasis on puzzles and stealth... the first one has a bit of (frustrating) combat but the second one the combat was removed.. it's one of the best horror games I've ever played... it's obviously not a big budget title, and has a much smaller scale of gameplay, but what it does well(atmosphere, voice-acting, story telling, puzzles) is something more games could learn from. Scary as hell to play at night.
@Ehardergardens: I have half life 2 for the PS3, and i tried out penumbra overature and i thought it was similar. but regardless of how low it's system specs may be, my computer is only made for simple games like blockland and flash games.
Filefront was one of the fastest, best places to download demo's and patches... and it was completely free, unlike Fileplanet, who makes you jump through hoops to download stuff.
@Mister Jack Won a Copy of Matt Hazard!: And lllusion x said, "let there be funk." and there was a huge nerd party that ensued world wide and he ordered that moar bitches needed to get involved.
Good luck and take care! Try to have lunch with Ellis Krauss sometime; he is a riot and piercingly informative, though he may become somewhat more dodgy for those within his own community. I always was intrigued by the depth of your articles and will feel their lack. Best wishes to you!

Yeah. Beyond gamespy, and a couple of other sites, filefront was really one of the best - and usually fastest - source for... Well, everything!
Sad to see them close up. :(
