Snake is equipped with a meaty, manly moustache in the fourth MGS, presumably to soften the sound of the breeze passing across his hardened angular upper lip for stealthier stealthiness.

Fortunately, a group of dedicated gamers is joining Old Snake in his facial hair endeavor, proudly showcasing their lip fuzz at Metal Gear 'Stache. If you're packing a dazzling lip forest of bristly hair, make sure you join the team of proud growers. We don't see much in the way of competition for Old Snake, but we're hoping that changes.

<![CDATA[ Clip: Excel the MMO ]]>

I don't know which is better about this satirical clip, the basic premise which has two clueless guys trying to pitch a stream of MMOs about things like auctioning, Excel and cats or the fact that one of the guys is Kevin Pereira with a porn stache. I'm gonna have to go with the porn stache.

Come on Kevin, get on board, all the cool game writers have facial hair. Do it. DO IT. DO IT!

<![CDATA[ New Halo Movie Writer Talks Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes ]]> dbhairy.jpg

The Halo movie has a new scribe and is in re-writes. The original draft was inked by Alex Garland (The Beach), which led to the uber deal between Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, Microsoft and Peter Jackson to create the picture.

The current draft is being penned by game-obsessed novelist DB Weiss (Lucky Wander Boy). Weiss talked to game site GameSetWatch about the adaptation, saying:

There will be the 5% on the fringe of any hardcore fanbase that get angry about any change you make to the source material. The truth is that novels, games, comics, and what-have-you are not usually ready to be slapped up on screen as-is. If you did do a 100% faithful version, 999 times out of 1000 it would be a mess, and even the 5%-ers would recognise as much.

Weiss is a sharp writer, a gamer and doesn't shave, so it's good to see that Peter Jackson and co. are trying damn hard to make this Halo movie work. Because if it doesn't, there's going to be more than 5 percent of people pissed off.

<![CDATA[ Kotaku's Summer of Prizes: Weekly DS Lite Give-Away ]]> So we at Kotaku know how very hard it is to weather those long, languid news-free summer months, espeically with the tantilizing knowledge that not one, but two new consoles are launching come Turkey day. To try and get you through the summer doldrums, we've dreamed up some fun contests. Actually, lots of fun contests.

More on what to expect for the rest of the summer as it rolls out before our sun-weary eyes. But for June, you can expect lots O DS Lite goodness. We're declaring the month of June, the month of Friday Night Lites and to celebrate the sexy ultraportable gaming beast, we've sweet-talked Nintendo into giving us five Polar White DS Lites to hand out this month. And because a DS Lite without a game is like me without my sexy locks, each Lite will also come with a game or two.

To top the whole month of DS Lite goodness off, Florian has volunteered to go line sit and land a Midnight Black DS Lite in Ireland and ship it off to the month's grand prize winner.

Here's how it's going to work. Each Monday we will announce the theme of the week and the contest details and each Friday we'll announce the winner. On the last Friday of the month we will do a random drawing of all of the people who entered all of the DS Lite contests to pick the winner of the black DS Lite.

This first week is rather short, but we're still giving up a DS Lite and some games.

The theme for this week is Brain Blasters. The prize will include a Polar White DS Lite, DS Lite case, Brain Age, Big Brain Academy, Magnetica and Trace Memory.

To enter the contest you must break this code: nrytt xrfwy ktwdt zuzsd ptyfp znyjx

One hint: the Key to the code can be found in Eliza's first post on Kotaku. If you search for the story you'll come to the month that leads the first sentence. Perhaps the third month isn't the only one Caesar should beware.

To enter, email the answer in the subject line to: kotakucontest@gmail.com by midnight Friday EST. One entry per a person please. If you enter more than once per a weekly contest Kotaku reserves the right to have fits and ban you from this and future contests.

And remember, even if you don't win you will still be entered into the month end contest. Also, don't forget to check back every week for the contest.

Ed's note: Here's the full list of weekly contests. Also I've updated what we're giving away this week to include all the extra stuff.

<![CDATA[ Lore: We Need More Grav Guns ]]> lorephoto2.gif

Lore Sj berg's gets his grump on in an article about what he does and doesn't want to see in his next-gen games. Rhythm games are right out (wha! Guitar Hero, hello!), but Lore wants way more attention spent on trying to make characters look like something you might talk to instead of fondle in a clothes store when no one is looking. He also wants way more grav guns (something I totally agree with) and more puzzle-adventure games.

The column's worth a read and if you're a Lore fan I've got some cool news for you: He's now also writing daily for us. I'm not going to tell you which posts he's writing because, well, I'm not allowed to, but I bet you can figure it out.

I'm delighted to have Lore's wit and piratical look on board.
