It's been over two years since the 360 launched, and in all that time, not one company has stepped forward and given the world a faceplate worth pausing to look at, let alone spend any real, human money on. That is, until now. Because now, we have a Faceplate featuring country & western superstar Trace Adkins! And it's even got his signature on it, so you know it's both officially endorsed and officially awesome! Awesome.

<![CDATA[BioShock Faceplates Selling Like Hotcakes]]> faceplate.jpgOften, the best gaming swag you get is the stuff you get for free. such is the case with the BioShock faceplate. There were only 5,100 of them made and they were given almost exclusively to GameStop managers for an inter store sales promotion. I was fortunate enough to be gifted with not only one, but two of these little beauties by my local GameStop manager, one of which adorns my 360 at home and the other I gave to my best friend.

With BioShock mania at a peak just four days before it's release, these rare faceplates have begun surfacing on eBay and are fetching anywhere upwards of $100 or more in some cases. Personally, I wouldn't dream of getting rid of mine because it's gorgeous and I love it and you'd have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers. But, given the choice between owning a rare, cool piece of (free) merchandise for your console or turning around and selling it for some cash, which would you choose?

<![CDATA[Gears of War Faceplate]]>

Pavel Dolgov, the unofficial Kotaku resident artist, has whipped up yet another kick-ass hand-painted Xbox 360 faceplate. This time around, it features art inspired by Gears of War.

The fancy faceplate is selling for a bit pricey $84 on eBay.

<![CDATA[Furry 360 Faceplate]]>

I don't think the Xbox 360 needs a coat to stay warm, but Talismoon has come up with a range of faux fur controller faceplates. The $15 Wild Jungle faceplates come in leopard and cow prints and are guaranteed to make your console sweat. You can also buy the furry faceplates for the Playstation Portable, a slight more sensible idea. But what would have really made sense is a 360 faceplate for the console. Though that might have been a fire hazard.

<![CDATA[Blue Dragon Faceplate To Slay Japan]]>

This December, Microsoft is hoping, praying that Blue Dragon will spell Japanese hit. The company is releasing a special "Xbox 360 Core System Blue Dragon Premium Pack" on December 7th. Along with the game, an original faceplate will be included in the bundle. Pre-orders start on October 18th. The Hironobu Sakaguchi created game does have a good buzz, thanks to a strong TGS showing. But is it enough to move consoles?

Haven't done a poll in a while, so let me throw the question out to you:

<![CDATA[Assassin's Creed, Legos SW2 Faceplates]]>

Jenni Chasteen wrote over the weekend to tell us that she had a pretty cool handpainted Assassin's Creed Xbox 360 faceplate up for sale on eBay. Unfortunately, by the time I got to it, it had already sold for about $50. The thing's pretty neat, but not nearly as cool as the Legos Star Wars II faceplate she has up on her site. What, are you holding out on us now Jenni?

<![CDATA[Cover Your Xbox 360 With Dead Rising]]>

My Xbox 360 faceplate? Plain Jane white. Nobody has been kind enough to paint me a custom faceplate, and you know what, that's fine. I like the dry straight-out-of-the-box feel it gives my console. But, if I had a custom faceplate, I'd like something similar to this Dead Rising original portrait done by artist Jenni Chasteen. It's on eBay, for a price, so good luck happy bidders! *sighs, gets coat and goes back to normal Xbox 360*

<![CDATA[The Kotaku Faceplate]]>

After reading my bitchings about the artistic faceplates out there and the fact that no one had created a Kotaku faceplate, Edgar decided to to make one for me.

Yeah, the one I made was with enamel paint, which is a new media for me (I had only done oils) but made for plastic so I'm sure it's durable. Now, the Kotaku faceplate I made with acrylics which is also a new media so please cut me some slack if it's not as great as it could be. Yes, I made the Kotaku faceplate as promised so just tell me where to send it to and I'll drop by the post office either today or Monday. Thanks!

No, thank you Edgar. This faceplate is sweet! I tried to pay him for it, but he refused. The faceplate is on my retail 360, the other is my debug unit.

<![CDATA[Hand-Painted Halo Faceplate]]>

Pavel Dolgov, who seems to quickly becoming the resident artist for Kotaku, just dropped me a line to point out that he's come up with a new, kick-ass Xbox 360 faceplate. It appears he's been following the commenting about his previous works and decided to put out a Master Chief faceplate. Dolgov also created two unique Halo-themed paintings, one's 16-inches-by-20-inches and the other is 8-inches-by-ten-inches.

I friggin love the Halo faceplate, though a reader just shot me an email to tell me he created a Kotaku faceplate that he's sending my way.

<![CDATA[Artist Sells Hand-Painted Xbox 360 Faceplates]]>

Artist Pavel Dolgov sends word that he is getting into the hand-painted faceplate business. While I like this piece, based on a painting he did of the Xbox 360 logo, I'd love to see some more variety from Dolgov. Maybe something a bit more abstract or with some retro theme like Space Invaders. Oooooh, I'd love a Space Invaders faceplate.

The price could use some work too, thought if I really liked it and it was hand painted I'd slap down $100 in a heartbeat.

<![CDATA[360 Controller Faceplates]]>

Lik-Sang got their hands on some very sweet looking (and warranty voiding) Xbox 360 faceplates. The faceplates require you taking apart your controller and replacing the front piece, but it sounds like it's a fairly straightforward procedure. The company has only released seven colors so far and none of them have interesting designs or pictures on them. There is, at least, a chromed out controller which looks pretty slick. And the things are only about $17, that's pretty cheap.

Jetion is working on a 3D Xbox 360 faceplate. The handmade prototype has a very HR Geiger feel to it, as Hexus points out. It's good to see that some of those cool faceplates hinted at pre-launch are starting to show up.

<![CDATA[Redwood Xbox 360]]>

Who needs custom faceplates when you can have a custom console. The guy who put together a hardwood iPod and hardwood computer decided to build a redwood Xbox 360 case. This thing is a beauty, but I keep thinking about the heat.

Update: Well, it looks like this is actually just a computer built to look like a Redwood Xbox 360. Sorry about that.

eToychest has a nice wrap-up of the day s events at X05. While we ve already covered the big news of the day, the one thing we were missing were some nice pictures. eToychest delivers in spades, posting tons of shots from a hall that seemed to feature art deco Xbox 360 faceplates. I ve posted this monstrosity in the hopes that it is in fact some sort of over-the-top, cool-as-hell case mod for the 360. Probably not, but a guy can dream can t he?

Major Nelson just posted the results of his Xbox 360 faceplate contest. It looks like there were some really good entries. The top plate was an entry entitled No Sleep, which features a giant green eye, which happens to be the Xbox 360's power button.

There were more than 1,200 entries in the Win My E3 Faceplate contest, all of which can be viewed on the 360 Flickr group.
