That woman on the left second picture down, is smoking hot... I didn't even know you could get your characters to look so good.
I think my next run through of that game, I am going to play as a female. I mean, might as well, if I am going to be staring at the back side for so long.. plus I didn't know that you could make them so hot.
Although.. I need to first be pulled away from Fallout3 and Halo3. That's the only thing about a great game(s).. I haven't devoted this much time to a game(s) probably since Front Mission 3 for the ps.
One thing that really bugged me about Fable 2 was how your character's appearance was tied to your stats. This means that in order to have a character that looks the way you want them to, you have to build your stat distribution around their visual look.
I maxed out Strength, and my character (I played a female character, sue me) ended up looking like a steroid-infested mutant with a giant head and muscles the size of wild boars. She was so repulsive to look at (especially after the spire, when your character gets put in stupid-looking armor and has their head shaved) that I was forced to downgrade my strength to level 2.
I maxed out Will, and my character glowed so much she looked like a human lava lamp, and I'm pretty sure it actually scared people away just being NEAR her. So I downgraded my magic, too.
I maxed out Skill, and nothing really happened. I think she got taller or something, but it wasn't major. It ended up being that I had to focus entirely on firearms for the second half of the game, because my character was too weak physically and magically to be of any use in those schools.
Either way, they should've made your character's design a legitimate CUSTOMIZATION, instead of a PUNISHMENT for wanting to have a character who can actually survive endgame combat.
@Archaotic: Well you've gotta remember that the game was pitched with everything having consequences. Everything you did was supposed to affect your character in ways, including stat building. Wouldn't make much sense to have a runway model swinging an enormous club around in that kind of world.
@PwnofProphecy: There should be some sort of balance between the consequences and good game design though. I don't want to play a game where I think the character I have to control for 20+ hours looks stupid. Any game.
And besides, the choice in play here is "have a character that doesn't look like a braindead mutant, or be able to beat the game". Not a really fair choice, in my opinion. :[
@Archaotic: The combat in Fable 2 is so terribly broken that it doesnt really matter, does it? regardless of how you level, everything's gonna feel and work the same9except magic) and it's impossible to truly be exceptionally strong in one and weak in others, since you get so much exp. By the time I got towards the end of the game, I ended up setting my stats for my appearance, rather than how i wanted to play, because the fighting was terrible anyway, so it didn't really matter.
Which makes me wonder how they can tribue to character customization when Fable 2 barely had any.
@Cervidanti: Fable 2 had a lot of things nobody wanted, and was missing a lot of things everybody wanted. That's the irony of it all. I've decided, after playing the first two games, that unless Fable 3 has a REAL character interaction system (y'know, TALKING instead of farting) and real character customizations, I'm just not gonna bother.
@Archaotic:
So true!
I still remember how I give up Elder Scrolls Oblivion with its 3 pages worth of customization sliders, none do anything more than letting you fine-tune how hideous you look.
@Desmond Y Zhou: Yeah, I don't like character customization for that reason alone. No matter what you do, you're gonna look like a mutant troglodyte unless you download some external mod from people who actually have SKILL at character modelling.
White Knight Chronicles lets you get at least CLOSE to having a character who doesn't look like an in-bred freak of nature, so I can give their character creation system some props for that.
@Desmond Y Zhou: They have a mod out now that makes everything pretty. That's what bethesda does, releases half-finished games, some tools, and says "You do the rest"
Oh, and nickel and dimes you to death on DLC.
@Archaotic: With all due respect, that actually sounds pretty cool. I mean, realistically speaking, you wouldn't expect a stick skinny 4'8 female to be able to lift ogres and gigantic stones and the like would you? If you're going to max out your strength, I wouldn't expect anything less than a buffed out gigantic freak, I mean where else would strength come from? Within your heart? Please.
However, there's something else to be said for popcorn muscles that don't do anything.
Looking at those glowing characters I would have to say that someone got Too Human in my Fable II.
I need to go back and play Fable... bought it and put it aside after the first night.
@Raziel66: Fair played to you - I hadn't noted the now obvious resemblance between the two games' magic tattoos. But you're right in that Fable, great as it might be, is all too easy to put down and forget about. It doesn't really compel you to keep playing in any way.
I rather enjoyed Fable until it decided to make finishing the game impossible. Not hard. Impossible. My customized character is now the off button. Peter Molyneux is evil. Pump out some more DLC but don't worry about fixing what people already paid for. For Fable 3 maybe try to make a working game instead of worrying about making the dog fart.
So how many of you guys spend money on clothes/pics/themes/anything in PS Home? I usually never even spend $60 for games. I prefer to wait for them to drop to $30 so why bother spending $3 on a shirt with a drawing on it just to wear it on 1 vs. 100? I know people buy this stuff because MS keeps selling it. Same thing with Map Packs. You're going to spend $10 on 3 maps 1 of which you'll veto the other will be too small to be in most playlists when you only paid $30-40 for the game itself? Help me out here.
@yantelope: I've yet to buy anything in Home (I haven't even touched my PS3 in at least a month) nor have I bought dashboard themes or gamer pics for my 360. Do I expect to buy anything for my avatar? Nope, but I don't know what the future will bring. Right now though, none of this stuff is worth any money to me, but if it's free I'll give it a shot :)
As for map packs: I've only bought those for both Rainbow Six: Vegas titles, but I can easily justify those by the price per hour. Spending $10-$15 on content that gets played dozens of hours makes the price per hour quite cheap.
I try not to buy games right as they're released unless they have co-op or multiplayer that my buddies and I want to play. Trading games in is a hassle since I'd have to drive to the city and get hardly anything for my games, and renting games is completely impossible over here (in Holland) and that has made me a cautious buyer, so I only buy what I know I'll like or is worth the cost, and even then I shop around and often buy in the UK where prices are frequently better.
I like the idea of the avatar marketplace, but promoting what is basically a few scribbles on a texture in photoshop isn't that great of an idea, fable 2 guys. Not that the fable 2 guys are good at ANYTHING, but seriously, that's quite the basic shirt they're showing off, there, and it's gonna cost a dollar at least.
@CitizenErased115: I don't think the difference is all that big, plus, unlike Home avatars, Xbox avatars will be used in games, making your purchases perhaps a bit more justifiable if you're playing with friends. It's all bull to me, but there's no doubt there's a huge market for avatar clothes and accessories.
@noelix: they said one sentuamessage that they shall be doing that aswell its just that there not applying it to any old games so you will have to wait for fable 3 or maybe some sort of dlc unfortunatly
@Kuikara: doesn't 'splosionman have an unlockable avatar accessory of some sort? I remember reading about that.
Other than that, yeah, future games will probably contain stuff that gets unlocked.
Damnit I wish I could buy the Union Jack undies from Fable. Although, Union Jack is a... not gonna finish that quote since its a slur, but props if you know what I am referring too.
You know Home may be considered boring, but at least the InFamous outfit is Cole's clothing, the Star Trek clothing ins't just "Star Trek" written across the front.
Come on MS, get your act on.
Yes, even though MS is new to this (somewhat of a stretch) but it is pretty unacceptable if there are exact chun li, chris and sheva costumes available in HOME.
This gives me a thought: Will timed avatar costume exclusives be MS's next venture?
@Save me: Possibly.
Personally I reckon you should get clothing thrown in with games. It'd at least encourage you to visit Home, or do whatever you do with your 360 avatar (what do you do apart from make it dizzy)
If it is possible, great. One example is Capcom's SF4; you get a shirt depending on how much you've played the game/finished the trials. Granted, these are just shirts with the SF logo/Kanji splashed on them, not a costume akin to an ingame character.
Another way to make people go in HOME is by providing statues/miniatures/furniture available by completing certain parts of the game, like Capcom's RE5 where you get dolls of the game's characters after you complete a certain difficulty.
Admittedly, after getting both of these unlockables from the games, I did go into HOME just to look at the shirts/figures. Im pretty sure other people did as well.
@Save me: I just don't see the point of HOME, I've dropped in a couple of times but you spend ages downloading new areas to walk round with nowt to do other than queue to play virtual games :-s
Now if you could go into a game lobby in home to meet your mates and play the actual game from there it may be useful but it would have to be really seamless and FAST otherwise I'll stick with XBL Parties...which also allow cross-game...hmm, actually, screw HOME!!! :-)
MS Avatars may be pointless but at least they're always around.
@deanbmmv:
except the difference is that the only people who can see Cole's outfit are the same people who are wandering bored around Home after sitting through the 5 minutes it takes to start it.
At least with the MS version you can see what another player is wearing all the time, just by quickly browsing through your friends list and in every avatar supported game or activity.
What they both have in common is that it's still idiotic to pay real money for virtual clothes.
Yeah, these have been available since the new Live preview went up. There's nothing useful in there, at all. It's just like the Halo stuff, just logo-infused clothing, nothing special.
So I can walk around like a billboard promoting what ever brand of clothing I prefer which has the company name/logo plastered all over the front, making it okay for them to overcharge on an otherwise pretty cheap piece of clothing?
@Archaotic: Yeah, I got into the preview and the new avatar marketplace is pretty "meh" overall.
I can see the potential for unlockable gear and I could be induced to buy certain items for my avatar if they're really unique and well-implemented, but the cheezy Steampunk and Recessionista gear is just lame.
Off topic side note on the preview: Netflix playback is vastly improved and rating games is a great idea. Can't wait for games on demand.
