    I find this all kind of strange. Normally Japanese voice acting is so great. And although I only know a bit of Japanese, I can see why they think the performance is a bit flat, lacking their usual panache. Maybe they were misguidedly trying to capture a more "western" style of voice acting to stay truer to the original.

    @Thut: Dubbing is almost never ever as good as the original, no matter which direction you go. Many dubs are so bad they turn it into a comedy. Think martial arts flicks.

    @Thut: Actually Japanese voice acting tends to be very ‘hammy’, you only believe it to be good because you are not a native speaker of the language or have a low familiarity with it. Truth be told, most are not much better than your average English dubs. Of course there are some really horrid English dubs in existence, without a doubt.

    Wanna know something funny? A lot of Japanese importing English dub versions of their old familiar shows tend to believe that the dubbed versions offer a superior performance over their native language track and it’s for the same reason you believe Japanese dubs to be so good.

    @shades_of_blue: Without a doubt they can be quite hammy. But "writing aside," I simply find that Japanese voice actors tend to be a bit more emotive.

    Oh my god, are you serious? It's like they hate the sound of their own language or something. What, do they seriously think they can understand English? Obviously, they just want to show off how much better they are than everyone else.

    @Rebochan: Its the same reason why movies in Japan do much better in the original language rather than the Japanese dubbed versions. Not to mention why the subtitled versions are more prominent in theaters.

    @Rebochan: I can totally relate to their desire to have it in the original language instead of shoddily localized. It's not that English is better than Japanese, or vice versa, just that it's probably better in the language it was created in.

    @Rebochan: it's like us wanting Yakuza 3 with the Japanese dub intact. Just give us the english subs. Why didn't they just add the japanese subs to MW2 instead of a whole re-dub?

    have you ever watched an english movie in a foreign language? sure, mebe it gets the point across, but you lose things like the atmosphere that comes with things like the accent.

    @Rebochan: Except it is all about experiencing the content the way it was originally created rather than with some spin put on it by the localization team. Its the same reason why I want to play many games or watch many anime in the original Japanese with subtitles. It has nothing to do with a hate for English.
