Man I can't wait for this one. I really enjoyed the first one, though it had lots of room for improvement. It was still a fun sandbox game, one of my favorite genres. This one looks to make everything bigger and better! I hope it has some multiplayer or co-op. That would make an already exciting game even sweeter. #justcause2
That looks great but unless they're PC screens, I'm calling bullshots.
As for the game itself, I'll see how it's recieved. I found the first Just Cause to be a bit rough around the edges and nothing in it really grabbed me. #justcause2
@shouryuuken: Mind-taker! The whole time that I was reading this article I kept thinking, "Hmm. This sounds like it plays like Bionic Commando was supposed to. And without dreadlocks!" (although in my head I said "stinkropes" instead of "dreadlocks") #justcause2
@shouryuuken: Well, yeah, but how much time do you spend swinging around the radioactive ruins of a future city? That's bound to work up a nasty sweat, and I don't recall Mr. Commando taking any shower breaks.
Wait. Swinging, commando, sweat . . . hmm, there's bound to be a joke about balls in there somewhere! #justcause2
Me too. I remember just being confused with it, and I love open world sandbox games. All the over-the-top action seemed thrown in just for the sake of conversation. I mostly remember liking the ocean in it. #justcause2
From the footage I've seen, this game looks ridiculous as hell. So you know it has to be fun, if the gameplay dynamics took over and drove realism right off of the cliff. #justcause2
@BallPtPenTheif: Then opened the parachute, then glided along, then grappled a passing truck, then hijacked the truck, then drove the truck up a hill, then drove the truck off a cliff, then.... wait a sec, what were we talking about again? #justcause2
@Taggart6: I don't always drink beer, but when I do...: I agree with JC1, it had a good idea and seemingly a lot to do, but for me it got boring really fast. Much like most other sandbox GTA knockoffs, it brings some good fresh ideas to the table but fails to execute as a whole. The screenshots for the new one do look amazing and the video, although realistically completely absurd, does look quite fun. It looks like just like with AC2, JC2 are really trying to make an effort to rectify some of the mistakes that made the originals become bland rather quickly
Sounds like it's shaping up to be a good game. I loved the first Mercenaries game.
Incidentally, is Merc 2 as bad as the reviews imply? I played the demo and enjoyed it, and loved the heck out of the original... I'm very lenient in my personal reviews of games, so what is really "wrong" with the sequel?
Sorry to sidetrack, but I'm thinking of picking it up since it's dirt cheap nowadays. #justcause2
Is there anything they took out of the original? I mean, is it still sandboxy and you can ally with factions and do missions in any order and get supply drops and air strikes and all that?
When I first heard about it, I figured it was a no-brainer, but I balked when I heard the reviews. #justcause2
@Squiffy: I loved the first one too, and couldn't finish the second. I can't even really quantify the problem, but I think the vehicle controls were a little borked and it made the game more frustrating than fun. It's also incredibly repetitive, as are a lot of sandbox games, but it was really noticeable. I'd only pick it up if you found it really cheap. #justcause2
@Squiffy: It's very much the original, but bigger and boomier. I didn't really see a downside to it. one caveat is I don't own it, I was playing on a buddy's 360, I rented the PS2 version to try it and the PS2 one was non functional. For what I played of the 360 one it is a bigger better Mercenaries. #justcause2
@ggodo, the man from R.O.A.C.H.: Alright, thanks all for the replies. Sorry again for derailing it. I've seen it used for $15, so I can't go wrong if it's half as good as the original.
You may continue discussing Just Cause 2 now :P #justcause2
@Squiffy: Mercs 2 is alright. Stuff blows up. I dont think the story is as good as Mercs 1, but if you enjoyed 1 you should enjoy 2. And since you can find it on the cheap these days, itll be worth the purchase. #justcause2
