Sony Prepares An Army of Playstation Evangelists
InFamous, Rock Band Unplugged Top Experience Playstation Now Showcase

Also in the current state of things, their very, very few people who are going to be willing OR able to get lines of credit to make the most out of the Sony card without Sony pulling major strings with the bank who runs the card.
Last, this is going to cost Sony a crapload of money and Microsoft can counter this simply by cutting the price again. They've got enough wiggle room.

The fact it -- Nintendo had a HUGE set up in my local mall years ago, with friendly faces walking around putting a Wii-mote into every mom's hand, walking them through games, explaining how to use it.
Sony loves to sell something as original, but the fact is, for the last few years, they've been following what other companies have been doing -- not leading.
Basically, Nguyen is wrong - this has been done and done on a huge scale. It's like Sony is operating in a vacuum. Don't they have anyone that does any research on this sort of thing? This generation, they've basically acted like just telling consumers that they have to get a PS3 and PSP is enough to make people run out and get them, hence the 3rd place position.
Now that they are taking a proactive stance, they shouldn't be bragging that they're doing something new and amazing, they should be saying -- we should have been doing this from day 1.

Actually explaing the RROD to someone and saying how the PS3 doesn't get it would be a sly tactic....but it would work!
05/29/09
clever,sly and fully valid;
I have had my ps3 longer then 2 friends of mine who recently bought the xbox in the past 6 - 8 months ( i have had my ps3 since feb '08) and both theirs RROD'd in the past 2 months...

@zoompooky: Not sure... I guess it's just dead. I haven't seen a dead PS3 since launch though. Those early models would die faster than a 4chan meme.
@Demonbird: Seems like every retailer here has at least one system that is completely SOL. Target has a perpetually frozen PS3 and a perpeetually black-screened Wii, Wal-Mart has an RRoD'd 360, Best Buy has RB/GH set-ups with broken instruments...

Also, I don't see how some store representative can be expected to sell a product to a small group of people who have already made up their mind to hate the Sony brand. On the other hand, they might be able to educate/sell to normal people who are interested in games/movies.

"You are correct sir. If you have no interest in high definition Blu-ray movies or the built in wireless as a feature I can't really say that the PS3 is the system for you. Maybe in the future they will release a console with those features optional so you will then be able to experience the joy of gaming on the Playstation 3."
Just because someone is trying to be assholes doesn't mean you can't respond in a polite and coherent way. I doubt Sony wants them to be like, "but, but, the Xbox 360 sucks!"
05/29/09
And I bet they've also been told not to slag off the competition, which is always a bad idea when the person you're trying to convince owns a console from said competition.
05/29/09

novel idea, no?

This thing is old hat - it even has the same name as it did in the past. WAY back in the day I was hired by Sega as a Sega Evangelist at Toys R Us. My job was exactly the same - pimp up the Saturn. This is how I was told to explain away the poor Saturn graphics: "PSX games look better now, sure - but it's easy to develop for, so the graphics won't get any better throughout the PSX's short life. The Saturn is extremely hard to develop for, so you'll see its games improving throughout the long lifespan of the Saturn. Even in 5 years, the games will be improving, while the PSX is stuck where it is now."

Wii: 50m
360: 30m
PS3: 22m
If Sony plan on overtaking Microsoft in the next 4 years, then how are they going to sell 2 million units a year more than Microsoft, when they are being outsold continuously in the largest market? You don't sell more products than your competitors when they outsell you month after month in the US.
This, and the fact that there's no stopping the Wii, mean the console war is pretty much done. Nintendo wins. Microsoft takes second. Sony DNF.
05/29/09
PS3 is at 23.8m
Thus far, Sony has sold around 9.4 million units a year and Microsoft has old around 7.3 million units a year.
2008 PS3 lead over Xbox360 for over 10 months straight. Also, the console 'war' is over when next gen consoles are out, so it's still raging on.

The rest shouldn't concern us, really, it's a problem for executives on the business side of things. If the PS3 had sold 3 million units and only received 2 worthwhile games per year and no multiplatform titles, then PS3 owners should be worried. Otherwise, I don't see the point.
I'm a gamer, I don't have a financial stake in any of the companies, I don't get 0.000000000001 cent every time Sony, MS or Nintendo sell a system. The flow of great games isn't dying down, not for any of the three consoles. In the end, that's all I care about.

I choose the PS3 when it was getting its ass thoroughly handed to them. I was well away it was in last place. Did I care? No. I'll tell you what I did care about - Resistance, Metal Gear Solid 4, Disgaea 3, Uncharted and a handful of other titles.
I still don't understand how people can completely hate on another console. If I had the money, I'd probably get an Xbox 360 too. Even though I went with the PS3, there are games I want on the 360, and I'm not going to go completely partisan in this console war.
I might have been suckered into that Nintendo vs Sega shit back in elementary school, but I was a child. I was a fool. I have grown up, and I suggest console fan boys do the same.

Quite interesting, methinks.
Sales aside I find Sony's performance astounding thus far this year. Better than their competition anyway.
If they manage to win the E3 they might get back on track and show MS and Nintendo why they led for two decades.
I doubt they'll catch up on MS this year but with all their upcoming AAA titles due these holidays(early next year) and a possible price cut as well as new hardware I could see them coming real close. MS better not underestimate those crazy Japanese.
Also, what many people seem to ignore is the fact that Sony doesn't only sell the PS3 but also the PSP and PS2. That's three platforms each doing quite good. If you look at it this way Sony's outsold MS by long fucking shot already.
Nintendo will probably win this war but, honestly, who gives a fuck? I certainly don't.

Wow, my post got edited for being inappropriate? There wasn't even anything offensive in it and the two above posters apparently enjoyed it. I even added my two cents on what I wanted to see Sony do with the PSP. I call Moderator abuse on this.

Tell 'em there is a payment plan for $40 a month for 12 months, and they probably won't even notice the extra $100 - they'll just be like "PS3 for $40! Wing-Oh!"
