I really don't remember when I last bought a rendition of that game! It's had a running joke among my circle of gaming friends for being "Japanese Madden".

Ya know, regardless of what someone in the gaming industry does or doesn't give you, the last thing that people want is a crying little bitch.
I find it funny that the same guy who told Yuji Naka "FUCK YOU!" is feeling like a sore little butthole in this piece.
Bottom line: If it isn't in their Top 50, IT JUST ISN'T IN THEIR TOP 50! Suck it up, do better next time (and give a stronger lasting impression), and maybe, just maybe, you won't have to worry about whining over scores and accolades instead of sounding like a crybaby.
Just saying. Peter sounds like the prom date that got ditched at the last minute.

I would consider Bangai-o spirits more mass market than fifa, as the latter can only really be enjoyed (or desired to be played) by soccer fans.
Bangai-o a throwback to older arcade and console games in its difficulty, and tomb raider is a good revival of a struggling series. Both seem much more memorable as one of the games of 08 that was worth buying than a sequel to a sports game, that if your interested in, probably already own in a slightly worse version. (or two)
@Rob_Velocity: "Knowing what soccer is" and "being a soccer fan" are completely different things. That's like saying that just because the US has the NRA everyone in the country is a gun nut.
For the record, I'm English born and bred and soccer bores the shit out of me.
@Bichatse: ditto... I HATE soccer too and I've lived in the UK for most of my life...
Very few of my friends like it either... it's a fairly huge demographic who like football, but it doesn't encompass everyone... and I'd say that a fair portion of the gaming populous aren't fans either (ie, they'd rather play a well crafted game than watch a ball fly to and throw up a field... sports FTL)
I'm not huge on sports games, unless they're ridiculously unrealistic and arcade-y. That being said, playing FIFA 09 on 360 this year made me remember FIFA 92 on the SNES. I understood the sport of soccer as well now as I did 16 years ago, but the fun factor hasn't changed (or if it did leave, it was resurrected for this year's installment).
I know Moore is looking out for his own dollar, but I think he's onto something here, and I really hate how Eurogamer scores games 2-3 points lower than any other publication, period. If I want an accurate score, I find the average between a game's Eurogamer and IGN rating.
I think everyone hates Eurogamer at least a little bit because they score every game likes its supposed to be made of gold in their own eyes and if its not they shit all over it.
@peterpanpiper: btw, are there actually some good review sites out there? im searchin and eliminating ... so far Gamespot is in my interest of being kinda accurate to my own opinion i had with my bought games. are there any recommendations?
@detto: But remember that a man got fired from Gamestop for not lying and saying how great a game was because of an advertisemnet deal they had. My advise is check everywhere and decide from there. Kotaku is very honest too.
@detto: Eurogamer is a decent review site, just don't read it for the score numbers. I don't always agree with what they write in the reviews, but it always comes across with some good ideas on what will give the game enjoyment and the parts that will take away from it.
Not surprising at all, Eurogamer's raison d'etre appears to be "to piss off anyone who makes and plays videogames". Seriously, 8/10 for MGS4 which is winning GOTY all over the place says it all.
@afrosheen: But I still wouldn't give MGS4 10/10, it could be tedious at times and it was far more movie than game to deserve a perfect 10. 8 is harsh though, I'd rate it somewhere between 9/9.5
@afrosheen: Except they don't give scores just to piss people off, they just give scores because people demand some random numbers at the end of the review.
Read the reviews, ignore the numbers, and that is where Eurogamer does best. The actual, well writen, thought out, goods and the bads, thoughts on the game as made for and by European gamers.
FIFA 09 is my most played game this year. Sites seem to be embarrassed to put EA sports games in their end of the year awards. I'm not saying it deserves to win GOTY but it should definitely be in the top 50, if not the top 10.
@Shane86: I have to agree, I've gotten probably 30 plus hours of play out of it. It just has so many modes and there aren't many better two player games to play when a mate comes round.
@Polysics_2004: I'm not a soccor man myself but I'd prefer Pro Evo over Fifa. That isn't to say Fifa is bad, I've heard nothing but good things about the latest installment and to deny it even Top 50 is a bit harsh I think.
Still, Moore shouldn't be whining, I normally like Moore and his 'after the fact' honesty but don't whinge because your game didn't make some silly list.

I don't know how these editors can miss this. Especially since they have soccer injected in their DNA in the womb I hear across the pond.

Perhaps, but outside of the US, pretty much everyone's a soccer fan. The 10million sales bear this out.
