Owning this console is like owning a fucking time bomb. I'm already on my third, and since I was a loyal customer, buying it at launch, Microsoft is going to tell me I'm screwed if I get another error? I think not. I swear, if I experience another hardware failure and they try to charge me for anything I will raise hell.

Not many people get it though, so at least that's an improvement. So is it safe to get a 360 now? I have tried getting a 360 twice in the past and in the same months when I considered buying it, my office mates' 360s red-ringed...

I like how they insist on using the phrase "general hardware failure" when they also tell you there are different specific kinds of general failure.

It's like saying Jo, you are generally bad at sports, and also generally bad in academics, and generally poor at interacting with people. I'm not going to tell you which reason is the one we can't be friends, but believe me, it's one of them.

I´m very frustrated with the Box. I had my first RROD last month and I have no support here in Brazil because MS Brazil won´t fix products bought in other countries (I bought mine in Spain). So, I´m basically screwed. It´s sad because I love the library of games but I´m most likely not buying another one, I refuse to do so.

Sounds to me like Microsoft thought they could change the diagnostics so they didn't have to cover RROD anymore.

Glad they didn't get away with it.

That said, then, is the Falcon any more reliable than the Xenon/Zephyr? Because my Xenon got RROD, now I have a Falcon, I'm wondering if that system's death is predetermined as the Xenon's was, and I should just expect it, like the Norse gods expected Ragnorak.

@Mokon: My falcon died after almost 11 months. I took care of it the way they told me to and I still got the damn RROD. I´m very frustrated by it. Sorry to tell you that but it´s true.

@Mokon: Not to be a pessimist too hard, but from what I've seen (I won't invest in a 360 because of this type of issue) But I've seen and played on every iteration of the Xbox 360, and I've seen every iteration die from either the RRoD or other malfunctioning hardware. I'm sure newer chips will help to keep the internal temps down, but the faulty chip placement is still gonna bite them a bit. But frankly I agree with you that I think that MS put the E74 in there to try to get a runaround for the RRoD repairs. Like a scam of sorts. Just seems like them. Shady business.

The seemingly inevitable hardware failures is one thing, but not renewing the warranty after servicing is disgraceful.

Both my Macbook Pro and a PSP had renewed warranties after service, with Apple even throwing in Apple Care for three years and Sony giving me an extra battery as compensation. I'll also add that the PSP was a replacement due to dead pixels, they sent a courier the next day with a brand new unit after a simple phone call.

RRoD is a general hardware fault

whereas

E74 is a general hardware fault

In short, some of the things that lead to the RRoD are the same as some of the things that lead to an E74. Often, an E74 precedes an RRoD

@LittleDeadEpic! ....Hunting Akuma: It's not that hard for them, considering the original Xbox is one hell of a beast machine. My original works like a charm and it has been traveled with and damn near beat up for a few years.

The faulty hardware I blame on 2 things:

1) All the people who said the Original Xbox was big & ugly, which in turn made the creators make something more appealing. I don't care how the console fucking looks, no one should. As long as it plays great games, it's all good.

&

2) MS trying to get a headstart on Sony/Nintendo by getting the their console out first. Which did work out for them in a way. They are ahead of Sony, i'm sure they are proud of that.

@Dead Giveaway: I don't think that early release launch holds up anymore. Its been 4 years since the launch, they've had plenty time to fix it.

I bought my xbox in 2007 and got the E74 exactly 1 year later. Thankfully I got it fixed for free. But this stuff shouldnt be happening on non-launch 360's.

@NoBullet: It does when the early launch caused the design, which in turn could be causing the hardware failures. If they're following the same launch blueprint only changing small components failures are still expected. To fix it they'd have to go right back to the drawing board and come out with a whole new Xbox 360 in a different body with a different layout and components.

@OkayOctane: All modern consoles routinely see revisions be it minor changes to reduce cost or major ones which significantly change the form and design of the unit. There really is no excuse for not properly addressing the problem.
