Turns out, he is! Hooray! Said to be bearing the title Creative Officer of Sega Corp., Suzuki may be (extremely) low profile and the opposite of prolific, but it appears he's still getting his checks signed by Sega.

In Jeffery's defense, the man isn't in human resources. And no one wants a second visit from Sega of Japan's correction ninja squad. They'll cut ya.

Sony Don't Know What Error Code 80010514 Is Either ps3error.jpg It's not on the scale of the dreaded (do you dare speak its name?) RROD, but lately, some attention's been focused on PS3 owners getting an error message which reads "An error occurred during the start operation. 80010514". Not as catchy as "Red Ring Of Death" then, either. Do you know what it means? I don't. The crew at GameRevolver reckon it's one of two things: a problem with your HDD, or the result of a faulty software installation. We'd now normally use this part to tell you what Sony think it is, but they haven't the foggiest, an SCEE rep telling Eurogamer "they aren't aware of this issue with the PS3". Man, those SCEE repair guys are laaaiiiddd back. That or, you know. There is no 80010514 [cue X-Files theme....]

GamesIndustry: MS Needs To Fix "Appalling" Hardware Reliability FLOPPING ABOUTVideogame industry publication GamesIndustry writes in its weekly newsletter that Microsoft must address its hardware reliability and customer service or "risk handing the goodwill of the market back to its rivals." The highly critical look at the Xbox 360's hardware track record pulls no punches and paints a grim picture for the company looking to expand beyond the market it built for itself with the original Xbox.

GI writes that in addition for increased focus on fostering software geared for the mass market, hardware issues must be resolved if they're to unseat the PlayStation brand.

This problem hasn't gone away; in fact, from a consumer point of view, Microsoft appears to have done precisely nothing to address it. While the attention of the media may have turned to scrutiny of Sony's failings, the vast numbers of Xbox 360 owners who have been let down first by Microsoft's shoddy manufacturing, and subsequently by the company's arrogant and unfair policies with regard to customer service, have increased. Their voices are contributing to a groundswell of unrest and negative buzz which will hurt Microsoft very badly indeed if it is not addressed.

Certainly, Peter Moore's recent response to hardware related problems isn't helping with that goodwill. The Kotaku readership didn't seem to take kindly with his explanation of "things break." However, I've been under the impression that customer service has been improving, at least in North America, but I have yet to deal with them.

Free Gran Turismo Knocks PS3 Network on its Ass I know the Gran Turismo demo isn't supposed to hit until tomorrow, but early this morning there were several reports of people being able to download it.

And it looks like word has spread, as of about 8 a.m. the network has been knocked-out. According to the Playstation 3 forums, the help center is telling people that the network was knocked out because it got too busy.

When I tried on, I was first asked to do a firmware update (it's been awhile) and then when I tried connected I received an error code 8002A280. Doh!

Oh man, I hate to see what happens on Christmas morning when all of those people open up new PS3s and try signing in at the same time.

WiiConnect Bricks Wii

Reader Will writes to warn us that updating your Wii quasi-bricks some of the consoles.

After updating his system, every time the Wii tries to connect to WiiConnect24 he gets Error Code: 110213. After doing a little research he found that means he needs to call Nintendo.

so I call them up and I speak to Michael or Dan(Can't remember at this point) and after reading the message to him he says I have a hardware error and will have to be sent a new console...so I'm done with my Wii for a couple days as I can't transfer the saves from Zelda anymore...the new Wii is on the way but will take 3-4 business days...

Anyone else running into this issue? We've received two or three emails about it so far.

The Girl With The Error Message Eyes

Transmetropolitan's scribe extraordinaire Warren Ellis spotted this girl with eerie error message eyes in Second Life, moments after a server crash and reboot.

As Warren says:

Aa random person I spotted in Transylvania two minutes after the grid went back up earlier today. In her eyes, you can make out part of an error message, denoting that a graphic or script from her customised "avatar" or representative form in Second Life is missing. It means that the system, that's been crashing and hiccuping constantly since an upgrade on Wednesday, is failing to find and/or process the entirety of her body. Elsewhere, I've seen people wearing that message over swathes of their skin, projected there by the system.

As Ellis notes, there's an excellent Philip K. Dick story in all this, perhaps to stand alongside his 1954 visionary classic, The Madame With The Wireframe Vulva.

Wii Europe: €249. December 8th.

Guess who's sick to death of the Wii? Motherfuckin' Florian, that's who. "Do you want to post this Australia Wii launch news, Flor?" Ashcraft asks me on IM. "NO." "LOL!" he replies. He is used to my ill-humor, but I have made it clear to him: the only thing I'm writing about the Wii today is the Euro date and price.

So here's your precious news. Nintendo UK just released the release and price details of the European Wii. They are:

Date: December 8th, 2006

Price: €249, or 179 GBP

Great. I'll buy one when it comes out. Until then, I'm sick to death of the Wii. Talk about overexposure over the last few days: there's a kid being pushed around by his father on a tricycle outside my house, giggling and excitedly squealing "Whee!" I'm tempted to walk outside, slap him and call him 'Ashcraft'. To which I hope he'd reply "LOL!" so I'd have an excuse to violently strike him again.

Nintendo Power's Famous Contests

Error Macro takes a look at the one consistent feature that showed up in every issue of Nintendo Power without fail: The contests.

As the site points out, the magazine started with lameo game give-aways, but quickly realized that gamers could just run to the store to get those, so they started branching out.

Over the years the magazine has given away the Robocop car, Bill and Ted's phone booth and a chance to meet stars. These grand give-aways didn't always come off without a hitch. The Total Recall contest, which gave gamers a chance to meet Arnie, took six months to happen and by then the meeting turned into a quick handshake. What are some of your favorite retro contests?

Rare Warhawk Going For A Cool Million (Not Really) LOL Warhawk am 'spensiveAnd you thought saving up for that PlayStation 3 was going to be a problem. Good thing I just snagged a copy of Warhawk for PS1 for $2.49 a couple weeks back, because I'm pretty sure I can retire off of this disc. It even has a case and instructions! I'll throw those in for an additional $250K. Each.

Is there anyone out there who doesn't appreciate errant data entry humor? If so, have you no soul?! —Michael McWhertor

Warhawk. Used.

Call of Duty 2 Tanks Over Weekend? cod2.jpg

I tried hopping into Call of Duty 2 on Sunday to get in an hour of headshots before cooking dinner.

Unfortunately, I couldn't join or create a game. I went to the Live forums and discovered I'm not the only one. It appears that the Call of Duty 2 online glitches are getting worse.

Let's hope that update really is just around the corner.
