Yeah, I fucking bought Prince of Persia today. Got home, booted it up, and my fucking 360 RROD'd on me in the middle of the first goddamned cutscene. Now the website is trying to tell me my warranty is expired. Eat a dick, MS.
And I still can't wait to play PoP. Should've gotten it on PC, what was I thinking?
FUCK... Oh well. As long as I enjoy it, it was worth the money to me. -_- I might buy a few and ebay them a month later... Sales like this always pay off.
Bought it on launch, not upset about paying $59.99 at all since I got the collector's edition...great game and in my opinion, much better than the last 2 in the series.
Got mine on sale at Amazon for 40$ :D~!!! Guess they were ahead of the curve...except a day later it was back at the 56.99 or whatever they charge.
Strange Gamestop would drop it so quick, then again, in these trying times, what game is the consumer more willing to throw their quarters at? A game with no multi-player, is new and artsy looking? Or CHAINSAWING PEOPLE 2(Gears 2), with rich MP, a well known and well selling prequel, pretty big hype built, and the CLIFFSTER behind it? I chose PoP since I love how it looks, third person action, and most of all STORY, not to say Gears 2 doesn't have any, but Gears 1 hardly got me excited, tons of questions and literally 0 answers, what incentive do I have to believe it's not going to pull a Lost on me?
Gears 2 will come to PC for 10$ cheaper in a year when 360 sales lag, then it will be it's time to shine with...an extra quarter of a level.
Why are people being so silly about it performing poorly? I bet it's going great because seriously, people love the PoP-games.
This is not the first well-performing title I see getting a special discounted price soon after its release, and it's unlikely the last.
Perhaps it's just Gamestop trying to boost their own sales a bit before christmas. You should wait and see if it's a permanent drop of just a temporary sale first, alright?
I can believe this game's reviews. This series has failed it's over- KILL IT ALREADY. The graphics are sub par- at least in the demo. And you cant die if you fall. I would not pay a dime for a game like this with so many AAA games out there.
Oh cry me a river. It's not like it's hurting you in any way if it's on the market and there are people who enjoy it.
Second of all, the Elika saving mechanic is just like any other game with a checkpoint system. The difference is, the game doesn't have to reload and it actually explains why the character is still alive by the end of the story.
This economy is probably going to have a major impact on what kind of games we see starting around a year from now, at least outside of the handful of "Can't Miss" AAA titles that we tend to see each year. The $60 pricepoint just isn't going to work, by and large, in the current climate.
On that note, if you're spending $59.99 on more than two or three (regular edition) games a year, you a.) have ZERO patience and/or b.) aren't trying very hard. And yes, I count gift card promos as money subtracted from the total price.
Sadly, I think "Prince of Persia" came onto the scene too late in THIS season, and its beautiful appearance is basically meathead 'n' mook repellent, not to mention the word is out amongst the 'core gamers' (like us) about its brevity and 'no fail' approach.
@jollydwarf: they need to start releasing more games during the summer :| i mean ya i got your saving it for christmas but since everyone is the dry spell would mean massive bucks coupled with everyone at school getting massive time on their hands + summer jobs to pay for new games.
@Dao2SKP: True. There have been several fairly successful games released during the past summers (SCIV, The Darkness, Ninja Gaiden Sigma) that would have struggled terribly during the holiday rush.
On the other hand, nobody's forcing us to buy the games on release day; it's not that hard to leave a few games on the side, to be purchased in the Spring when things slow down.
@jollydwarf: You make it sound as if people are stupid to buy on release games which they want to play. I agree that patience brings savings, but it's hardly a bad thing to buy a game, see a film in a theater, go to a concert, etc. Those may not be the most frugal options available, but you're discounting the value of time and happiness in your meager savings.
Well, with a concert, you generally get one crack in proximity to your area per tour. With a movie, it gets a second life in the home video market. Also, a ticket to a cineplex showing of a film probably costs, on average, 1/6th of the price of a new PS360 game.
Like I said, too, a couple full MSRP games a year (for most of us) isn't wrong. Sometimes you want to get a jump on the online competition. Sometimes it's that franchise you've been pining for for years. I get that. But at this point, most non-Wii games see price drops sooner than later, or if nothing else, a site like Amazon usually throws in a $10 gift card for select new releases.
Maybe you're simply rich. But for most of us, for most games, waiting a couple extra months is worth the $20 or $30 savings. Well, in theory, anyway. I know gamers ain't the most patient and disciplined bunch. But as I get older, the waiting isn't quite "the hardest part". Sorry, Tom. Sorry, Heartbreakers.
@jollydwarf: The $60 price point wasn't going to work in *any* kind of climate.
Is anyone going to learn anything from the Wii at any point? Is it just coincidence that it has the lowest priced games and also happens to be the most popular console? Maybe, but I doubt it. I think it's just another element to its popularity. All else being equal, people will buy what's cheapest. And they're not just considering the price of the console itself.
Not to mention that $60 just feels "unnatural" as a price point. $50 is a nice round number. It's exactly mid-way between "free" and what most people would probably consider "major purchase". $60, then, just feels like somebody's tacking on an extra $10. Especially when the competition (Nintendo) isn't doing that.
And the thing is, with the possible exception of truly hardcore gamers, nobody *needs* video games. Especially not the day of release. I am perfectly content to wait until a game hits $20 or $30 before I buy - I rarely pay full original price no matter what it is. But I'd buy more games on day one if they were $50 instead of $60.
@jollydwarf: I'm far from rich. :p The point was simply that saving a little bit of money isn't the only factor in enjoying some medium, and there is nothing bad about buying a game on launch. Besides, its those initial game sales which fuel the industry, and if everyone had the mindset of waiting for a price drop, profits would tank, less games would be ordered by retailers, and publishers would scale back.
As far as the comparisons, I think you're missing the point. Why bother going to a concert when you can get a used CD? Why bother going to a movie show when you can rent it or get it on disc used later on? Why buy a book when you can read one from a library? Really, if money is to be the primary concern, people wouldn't have a current generation system to begin with, instead focusing on older, easily available titles that can be picked up for $10 and less. I personally wait for price drops myself nowadays and tend to buy used as well, but there is no elitism earned by bragging that you saved $10 or so by waiting a few months to play what others have been enjoying since day one.
@badasscat: The Wii also doesn't afford its users the visual quality of the PS3 and 360, which demands more development resources with each successive generation. I personally think the increase is justified as games are the one thing which has consistently held at a fairly steady price despite influences of increasingly complex technology, lengthening development time, and influences of inflation. People forget that NES games had MSRPs of $60 as well once games such as Batman began adding additional chips to the cartridges for new visual effects.
How about the entire Ghost Recon series Ubi killed? Or Rainbow Six? Splinter Cell? Must I go on? UbiSoft is nothing but an EA clone. Consume and destroy all franchises.
not like hes lying, farcry 2 was a falacy compared to the original, endwar is mediocre at best and I have no desire to play any other PoP game ever again, last 2 were shit. I come from the stock where gamers dispute crappy games or mediocre games and don't allow complacency when superior products could be made. I hope EA and Ubisoft go bankrupt
