Why has League of Legends received the coverage it has on Kotaku while its pseudo competitor Heroes of Newerth is ignored completely. Granted it's still in beta but that's not really an excuse to ignore it.
League of Legends is a DotA spin off. Casual DotA players will probably enjoy it but more serious players will prefer Heroes of Newerth which is pretty much DotA 2.0. If you enjoy DotA and aren't 100% opposed to some things changing (ie losing some of the hero base, new heroes, some item changes but largely the items are exact ports, some changes in the skills of heroes ported over) then you'll enjoy HoN. It might be tough to get a beta invite but if you can track one down it'll be worth it. If not it's probably not that far from release now, they just added two more heroes making the total 59 heroes and it's predicted the game will launch with 60 heroes.
So about another month for the last hero then probably 2-3 more months of beta for balancing and tweaks.
I've started to really get into the Valve titles recently, picking up orange box and both L4D's, my PC, it isnt low end, but its certainly no gaming rig, straight out the box HP pavillion with a £50 graphics card.
All the games i've downloaded off steam recently have run on full spec wonderfully.
I'm becoming a PC gamer I think, and a lot of people are coming over to that side just because of the myths that you have to upgrade every day for £1000000 are dispelling.
I have my PC for RTS, FPS and puzzle games, then my ps3 for others.
If I want to play a wii titles I can just visit my girlfriend and play at hers as mines still broken at the moment.
All together, I think I've got it pretty sweet this gen.
@OiScout: Including L4D2, thats pretty sweet.
When I say download though, I mostly mean buying in the shops, but them coming through steam.
Orange box £5, L4D1 £15, L4D2 £29.99
so about £50, but to be honest, theyre worth so much more, I fear I might be becoming a huge Valve fanboy haha.

That's less than $3 per game. PC gamers always win in the end, kids.
Who says pc gaming is dying, these are all great titles. Just because some pile of overhyped shit like MW2 doesnt live up to expectations in no way means the demise of the PC is anywhere in sight.
@Mr. Mew: That was meant to be facetious, sorry. If anything, I agree with KiLL3r. You can't read many posts about pc games without some uninformed fool proclaiming that pc gaming is dead or dying these days.
Anyway, time to go look at all the DD sales going on.
@Blore07: If you enjoy pretty much non-stop action (imagine dozens of mutated buffalo attacking you at once, or an end-boss so giant you can't get the whole enemy on the screen) with a bit of humor, then this game is for you.
Oh, and headless kamikazes with round bombs on their hands, yet still able to scream at you ^_^.
I heartily recommend the game based on the original First Encounter.

"There was a new operating system roll-out and it was completely ignored."
What? Seriously. What?
Windows 7 sold more than Vista did, to a lot of fanfare and general goodwill. I know a lot of digs are made at PC gaming on kotaku, and that's your prerogative, but come on!
@DocSeuss: It was referring to how Microsoft did almost nothing game-wise with win7. With Vista, Microsoft was advertising some game centric additions like the games launch center and the windows system rating. Now, they don't really care. They would rather have you buy their xbox, as it is a platform they control 100%.
@heavyglow: I thought the Release Candidate already show performance increae in certain games. 7 just manage resources better than Vista, because it's made with netbooks inmind.
@syafiqjabar of Mars: It uses roughly as much system RAM running as Vista does. It however is much better than both XP and Vista at balancing workload on multiple CPU cores, meaning you get much better performance on multicore systems. But the world consists of morons who keep claiming that XP is the best OS ever, though it's inferior to both Vista and 7, and people who buy "upgrades" that consist of midrange performance from 5 years ago, because "PC Gaming is so expensive" though such statements are nothing but an expression of not knowing anything about the development of PC hardware over the last 3 years, and how it's leapfrogged beyond all previous generations in performance while the price plumeted. 3 years ago, the best graphics card you could buy cost twice as much as the best card you can buy today, but the performance in comparison to the titles of the time was maybe 50% of what today's best card can do. The story is the same of CPUs...
I'm surprised this list has so many DLC bits on it. Really? Were you guys struggling to fill out the PC game recommendations that much?
You guys recommended the no dedicated servers, more console oriented war sim Opflash over ArmA 2. There are no MMOs, arguably the biggest moneymakers on the PC atm. The list totally lacks adventure games, despite the PCs recent resurgence of the genre.
Maybe you should have just listed the strength of the pc versions some of these non-exclusive games instead of posting multiple DLC entries.
Was this list, by chance, limited by games on the PC that you guys actually reviewed?
What's up with all the anti-PC stuff in Kotaku? Seriously, every topic about PC games in general is about how they fail or they're bland compared to the consoles.
We're talking about a system which can play PC games past and present, which gets more and more console ports, sometimes even Better than the original versions, AND emulate most other consoles to a T.
A system which always has and always will surpass the other consoles in prowess and gameplay and controls. Find a way to beat keyboard&mouse in precision, then talk.
A system where, if you have no scruples, you don't have to pay for anything except hardware.
Seriously, is Sony and Nintendo paying you to trash PC gaming?
@JesusDeSaad:
Wow, touchy much? You're overreacting for no reason, and coming off like that makes you sound like you have a severe superiority complex and are a complete jackass.
@Strife Fox †: And it isn't over reacting at all.
There is a genuine and obvious anti-PC slant in kotaku's articles.
The first line is "Poor PC gaming" and a list of DLC, with commentors having to fill out the article themselves. Luke called the MW2 petition a 'hollow and pointless Tantrum'. They had to be nagged into reviewing Torchlight.
And this on top of PC being one of the more popular platforms on Kotaku; "3. Which of these platforms do you own and/or play games on?
PC: 9,250 total responses
Xbox 360: 8,277
PlayStation 3: 7,634"
As our mum's used to say "If you've got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all"
@deanbmmv: It's called humour, no offense but people need to stop being so touchy, if I had £1 for every time I heard people say PC gaming is dead over the last 10 years I'd be a rich man, but you know what? It's still going strong, and I'm still playing plenty of PC games, only idiots would let a silly assumption like that bother them to the point of bashing their competitors, much like Xbox fanboys do with the "no games" thing and PS3 fanboys do with "RRoD", it's all ridiculous and shouldn't stop anyone from enjoying their specific choice, or all platforms.
I don't personally have a side, since I've invested in everything, so I guess I don't truly know what PC exclusive gamers feel like, but to the contrary, beause I own more platforms than a PC, doesn't make me any less of a PC gamer.
@Strife Fox †: I'm well aware that PC gaming is going strong.
However if you're only source of gaming news was Kotaku you'd be wondering how folks like Valve are still in business.
And the thing with the fanboys yelling 'no games' n RROD, you're not meant to have the editors doing that too. Which they don't(except down under). But when it comes to PC they can't seem to help themselves.
(I too own more than a PC, I'd wager many 'PC gamers' do. We just identify ourselves as PC gamers as its our primary platform)
