They could still sell PS2 games at the stores since they still make them.

Also, mmmm...gaping hole.

I STILL hear people blasting earl adopters... That applies to pretty much EVERYONE BUT PS3 fans.

to those #1
the ps3 currently have a great line up of games, if you're thinking of playing ps2 games then just buy a ps2 then wait until the ps3 drops to a price you want to buy it at. since you still got a backlog of games to play, the 99 bucks you pay for your ps2 will be money well spent by the time you actually purchase a ps3 at a lower price.

I dont really get the point of selling your ps2 if you still wanted to play its games knowing that the current ps3s dont have backwards compatibily with ps2. selling your ps2 doesnt even get you that much. This is why i havent traded/sold any of my past systems cause it would only save me a few extra bucks. might as well keep the system.
If you really want a backwards compatible ps3, from what i've seen, theres still a few refurbished backwards compatible systems at the gamestops where i live (las vegas), so there might be some in your area or onlne.
about the constant unplugging and space concerning your old systems, is that even a problem? you cant be bothered to plug and unplug you consoles or even find space for it where it would just sit until you want to move it, are you serious? you can find one of those system selectors if you're really bothered by it. i bought one that also functions as a ps2 stand, w/ dvd remote, multi-tap, etc. that way all you have to do is turn the system you want to use and it switches to it automatically.
im not trying to insult anyone, just putting suggestions for your problem about wanting bc for your ps3. It is a good news that sony might be thinking of the return of backwards compatibility though. all i'm saying is that if you're planning to buy a ps3 to play ps2 games and the current ps3 lineup doesnt sway you to buy one, then buy yourself a ps2 and then a ps3 when it meets what you want and why would people who sell their ps2 knowing that the ps3 doesnt have BC and still want to play their ps2 games then complain about not having BC. i just dont get it

BC is an important thing for me. I was saddened by their removal of it, and incredibly grateful I got a 60 gig.

Stopping BC was stupid, but really Luke, by this point in time you should understand that turning it back on is not as easy as flipping a switch as you seem to imply. Their emulation has never been fully software like Microsoft.

Then release it and act like it's the biggest deal ever...WHEN YOU ALREADY HAD IT BEFORE!
I think I just figured out a great company strategy. Fire everybody that works for me. Then come out and claim to create thousands of new jobs by hiring them all back.
There, I just did my part to help the economy.

i couldnt agree more; distancing yourself from one of gaming's best libraries? ugh. i refuse to believe the importance of BC is a niche.
that said, id like to again propose this notion: i know the PS3's sold as a future-proof system, etc, but woudlnt cutting costs by dropping, say, the wifi and selling a dongle have been better than dropping BC entirely? assuming they cost nearly the same to produce, for the sake of argument: am i offbase with the mainstream consumer here? is internal wi-fi that much more important than playing your PS2 games?

Oh... Woops, sorry, I was channeling the average game buying public in 2001... It happens whenever I see lauch or near launch PS2 titles.

It was a wise decision. PS2 = best console ever.

Definitely not.
That title either belongs to the PS1 or the SNES.
