Direct your dissapointment to the iPhone as it is clearly at fault for the next missing Oblivion game, unless you know, the next Oblivion game is secretly for the iPhone >:)

@Tesahli: As a player of Fallout 1-3, Morrowind and Oblivion, I can with confidence say that Fallout 3 was closer, in nearly all aspects, to Oblivion than it was to Fallout 1 and 2. This is mainly thanks to the storyline, which was lackluster, and the NPC dialogue, which was poorly written.
Bethesda: Nope, not at the moment. Fallout 3 was a lot of hard work.
id: Ah, I see. So, if I were to ask ZeniMax to let us take the reins, could we make it a sci-fi space shooter set in hell and throw in some demons and nazis as enemies? We could definitely have the story set in a medieval setting...y'know...since it's Elder Scrolls and all.
Bethesda: Uh...I don't think...
id: Aw c'mon, ZeniMax buy us out and you don't even wanna collab?
Bethesda: Ok, but we get to remake Commander Keen.
They probably have plans but aren't working on it. With fallout 3, and new vegas I'm thinking they probably have ideas, concepts and such for TES5 but nothing tangible. They work on games for years before it comes to public knowledge usually. I mean they started work on TES4 right before Morrowind was announced. Just sounds like they're not working on it right now because they probably have a few other projects, plus they just merged with id. It's time to consolidate a bit before launching the next TES (Most likely they'd start work on it in 2010 if they're interested in it. Plus probably just waiting for Windows 7 and DX11 to be launched properly).
or they'd be looking to launch a new ip?
Anyone who doesn't think Bethesda wants to continue their cash cow and put an Elder Scrolls V on the next generation of consoles, please turn your gamer cards in now and exit the room in an orderly fashion. Thank you.
Maybe it means no current plans because they have to hire more voice actors first (and a few people who can do faces that don't look like they came from the stumpy end of the family tree)? I'm going to assume that's it so I don't have to cry myself to sleep tonight.
... besides, didn't they copyright Skyrim for use as a game title back around when Oblivion was released?
So, here's to hoping Mr. Howard is being a tad coy and sometime in the next two years we'll get to run about in the wintry Nordic homelands (which better include proper vampire families and wurwolves).
I liked Oblivion a lot. I really did. However, there was one thing that destroyed the entire experience of trying to actually FINISH the game. That thing is: Oblivion Gates. That dark, red tinged, horribly boring treck to get the sigils and close the gates. I just couldn't handle them after the 5th or 6th one. The very THOUGHT of doing another one made me want to just snap the disc in two.
So Oblivion will languish forever unfinished on my shelf, and I might go and get the rest of the guild quest achievements, or I might not, but if Bethesda does eventually make another Elder Scrolls, I just have one thing to say:
NO MORE GODDAMN FORCED MONOCHROMATIC IDENTICAL OBJECTIVE BORE-FESTS OR I'M DONE WITH YOU.
@MrBionic: It isn't necessary. That's just if you want extra help in the Battle of Bruma. You can completely skip that part by talking to Martian if you want.
@Lord Shplane: They won't let me continue the main quest without closing the gates. Also, I get migraines from that monochromaticness, so for me they are that bad, though, technically, that's not Bethesda's fault.
@MrBionic: The key is to talk to the Bruma countess. Ask here to approve the battle plans and then follow here to the chapel where Martian is apparently waiting at. Just going to the countess will let you sidestep grinding with the shitty oblivion gates (I hated those).
Or at least that's how I remember it. But it's entirely possible that you have a glitched game. It happens unfortunately. I just know that I got to sidestep that gateathon. (thank god)
Whaa? I'm sure I heard a while back then they were doing another TES after Fallout. Guess that was wrong...
Too bad, but I'm not even done with Oblivion anyway. I sold my PS3 copy a while ago but I recently got the GOTY edition for PC so at least it gives me time to get around to finishing it.
I just wonder what they'll do next. With Obsidian doing New Vegas, surely they're not doing Fallout 4 right away?
I mean, don't get me wrong, Fallout 3 was amazing. The only reasons I sold my PS3 copy were that I knew there would be a GOTY, plus I upgraded my PC after playing it on PS3 and if you've got a choice, Fallout should be played on a PC.
Anyway, my point is, Fallout is awesome, but there can be too much of a good thing. I don't want them to turn Fallout into the next Guitar Hero...
@Fieldy: yeah, I tried playing it on my friends ps3 recently and the load times made me want to shoot myself. Plus I missed my MMM and various other mods. Just like in oblivion, the tweaking really helped improve it to match individual play style.
@Kazutoyo: Right, and the ony reason they didn't keep quiet about Fallout 3 was because it was a highly publicized license acquisition and they just couldn't.

I think you could do some interesting things with that.

Not me. I'd like Juwan Howard to bring Ninja Gaiden 2 to the iPhone.

Haha I can't believe people are still suggesting something as outright stupid as Fallout 3 being in any way similar to Oblivion.
It had an inventory, towns! Dialogue! OMG OBLIVION CLONE!

Last year the Bethesda Publishing Exec said there is a potential new TES for 2010.

If I remember correctly, anyways.
Oblivion gates are pretty short anyways though. The monochromaticness was annoying, but they really aren't all THAT bad.

In short, it's an optional quest.

Fallout 3 isn't even a year old yet, they will continue to be quiet about it for quite some time.
