i love the Getaway games, but PLEASE! hire a new character modeler! the models in the 2nd game and in the above screenshot look so bad, especially when they're compared to the amazing London renderings!
Eight Days looks boring... Reeks of so many recent games with bullet time shooting and all that crap...
The Getaway interested me for a similar reason that Assassin's Creed did: The architecture and landscape. I'd love a game that recreates London somewhat accurately. I never played the first few games in the series, though, because this is something I think really needs, at minimum, a PS3 / 360 caliber machine to pull off.
@bobtheduck: Actually the first Getaway pulled it off pretty well. The game had its flaws for sure, but the total lack of interface, the attention to details put in the (re)constitution of the different locations and the dryness of the gunfights really gave a bleak and visceral feel to the game.
@bobtheduck: I played the first one and whilst the recreation of London was interesting, and the combat was satisfying in a sense, it seemed like a sandbox with no sand in it.
I mean, you could do the missions, and apart from that there was almost literally nothing to do. Sure, you could steal cars, and then run from the police, or try and kill a cop and take his gun, but then what?
No side missions, virtually no buildings to enter, no shops, no minigames, no interesting street scenes or vignettes. It was like being in a model village, only it was the size of central London. If you just glanced, it looked real, but if you actually tried to find something to do, all the fruit turned out to be made of plastic.
@bobtheduck: The original getaway got mediocre reception and a lot of complaints about a mechanic that a lot of games since have used, and is almost the norm now. That is the no health pack, seek cover until health regenerates mechanicI thought it was pretty nice. It did break realism (which it was crticized for), but these are games and not real life, and absolute realism doesn't make things more funnerererest.
The acting and look was very good, but frankly GTA style game play doesn't really do much for me. (i.e. open world with gangster/mafia style missions). Getaway had a more appealing style than GTA for me though.
I was really interested in this on the Ps3 because I feel the series has a lot of potential.
I always had a lot of gripes with Getaway games, but I still appreciated them for the difference they brought in the genre. But I'm sure they would fix all the bugs and gripes that people had problems with in the new one.
Millions of gamers across the globe would stare blankly at the game's case, completely speechless, confuzzled, lost. They would then question whether the Internet ever existed in the first place. Looking at the case again, they'd decide 'No, it must not' thus begins the decline of modern society.
FOX blames this solely on video games and green alien side-boob.
@Frazzlet: And the blinker as navigation annoyed the hell out of me, and leaning against a wall to recover health is still the silliest mehanic I've ever heard.
Other than...you know, just having it regenerate...Ok so maybe it isn't so bad.
@Phaper: 2 games put a side for just one? I doubt both teams really stopped altogether just to work on eye pet so for me this doesn't sound right. And for them to be as far along as Sony stated and then just stop seems ludicrous too (since it prolongs the production without any money coming back from sales which seems like a stupid idea which just loses money). If both these teams were working on eye pet then I think it would have been done sooner too. Anyway not criticising them but this just doesn't sound right to me.

@xxXX_Insanities_Birth_XXxx: They also make mention of SingStar, and if you really think about it, it does make sense. While The Getaway and Eight Days may appeal to the more dedicated gamer, games like SingStar and EyePet have a much broader potential appeal. Microsoft and Sony have both taken note of Nintendo's successful targeting of more casual gamers, and it does look like both companies have redirected and put far more effort into trying to create a market for that crowd on their systems.
EyePet and SingStar have a far greater chance of attracting that market than The Getaway and Eight Days, and in the already congested holiday and post-holiday gaming seasons, how successful would Getaway 2 and Eight Days really be? They could just be waiting for the right time for the market to bear the load of two more "core" games.
@Sir-Lucius does anything for Dethklok: I'm still not sure, I take note of SingStar too but even so I don't feel they'd purposefully take away from already advertised (at E3) games just to try and punch some casual blows at Nintendo which as we all know Sony had very few eyes on at the beginning of this gen. Other than Singstar and Eye pet there's not been a casual approach with the PS3 and it's possible but I don't see them putting two projects on hold for years on end just to work on other projects that wouldn't see the light for years.
I appreciate Sony is looking for other markets too but this just seems half and half. In the end I guess I'll trust Sony on it but with sony bleeding money early this gen, having a lack of quality titles early on etc. this seems like a weird move. I know it's for the casual market but it's half hearted as eye pet is still not out 3 years in and I don't think eye pet and Sing star alone are enough to pull in the casual gamers to the most expensive console. Anyway it's all conjecture but that was just my thought pattern and it's probably wrong.

Oh boy.
partly due to one game's lack of online features
Can't have a game without multiplayer, can we?

But if they can polish up the game mechanics I may be willing to give them another try.
