Today the developer responds.

Fuzzeyes reps deny that the developer is shutting down and that Edge of Twilight development will continue in January. Reps confirm that development had been put on hold in early October due to unspecified reasons.

"Currently all outsourcing parties still working hard on EOT development," said a Fuzzyeyes rep.

The former Edge of Twilight developers we heard offered a less encouraging picture of the game's fate, intimating that disputes with the game's publisher Southpeak Interactive were partly to blame for the game's development issues.

<![CDATA[Rumor: Say Goodnight To Edge of Twilight]]> Steampunk fantasy RPG Edge of Twilight may never see the light of day. The Fuzzeyes Studios developed game, originally planned for release this year on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, is rumored to have been canceled.

Despite looking pretty in screen shots, improving dramatically since it was first announced, work on Edge of Twilight is said to have ceased months ago by a former Fuzzyeyes developer. The Australian developer responsible is also said to have been effectively shut down.

We've reached out to publisher Southpeak Interactive and Fuzzyeyes Studios to verify this information and will update with any new details.

Update: A second source, also formerly of Fuzzyeyes Studios, offers similar information about the fate of Edge of Twilight and the game's developer.

<![CDATA[Scenes From The Edge Of Twilight]]> The folks at Fuzzyeyes have a keen eye for gorgeous scenery, as displayed in this latest set of screenshots for the upcoming hack and slash platformer Edge of Twilight.

Planescape, Planescape, Planescape. Just had to get that out of my system, as I do every time new assets from Edge of Twilight are released. It's just got this whole alien steampunk thing going on that I absolutely adore, fondly reminding me of the work that artists Tony DiTerlizzi, Robh Ruppel, and Dana Knutson did on the 1994 Advanced Dungeons & Dragons setting. It's a good thing.

<![CDATA[Edge Of Twilight Has Come A Long Way]]> When I last set my non-fuzzy eyes on Fuzzyeyes' Edge of Twilight I was a bit disappointed. After seeing the latest trailer, I am absolutely ecstatic.

This is exactly what I was talking about when I compared the look and feel of the original screenshots to something out of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Planescape setting - a mixture of steampunk and fantasy that gives the game a completely otherworldly look and feel. The main character, Lex, has undergone a redesign in both his bulky human form and his lithe alien form, which he switches between as he explores the twin realms of Night and Day, and the environments themselves are places I definitely want to explore.

The voice over is similarly intriguing, with the final words giving me chills: "One little slip of your knife, and a lifetime of pain can just drain away." Shivers. I'm hooked. Edge of Twilight is scheduled for release this year on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or PC. Check out the official web site for a little more background info.

<![CDATA[Edge Of Twilight Screens]]> Normally, whenever I see or hear the word 'Steampunk' (i.e. whenever I read Boing Boing) I fly into an uncontrollable rage and start Hulking Out with anguished cries of, "Arrrrgh! GET A NEW MEME YOU VICTORIANA-OBSESSED LOSERS!"

But then, doesn't everyone?

Edge Of Twilight just about avoids my wrath due to the lack of any obvious fob watches or handlebar moustaches. It looks a lot less Planescape Torment than the last time we looked in its direction though, which is a little disappointing.

<![CDATA[Edge Of Twilight Gets Publisher, 2009 Release]]> SouthPeak Games has announced that it will be publishing Fuzzyeyes' steampunk action-adventure fantasy Edge of Twilight for 'next-gen' consoles and the PC in North America and Europe in 2009. The game features an art direction that I have described in the past as "vaguely reminiscent of something out of the Planescape D&D universe." And while the brief teaser trailer they released back in October didn't exactly knock me off my feet, the screenshots and concept art coming from Fuzzyeyes continues to impress me, as does the official game website. They got another year to make this game spectacular. Here's hoping they use it wisely!

SOUTHPEAK GAMES TO PUBLISH FUZZYEYES' EDGE OF TWILIGHT

Steampunk Action-Adventure Fantasy Game To Debut In 2009

GRAPEVINE, TX - December 6, 2007 - SouthPeak Games, a leading publisher and distributor of entertainment software, today announced it will be publishing FUZZYEYES' upcoming colossus Edge of Twilight in North America and Europe. Scheduled for release in 2009 on next-gen consoles and PC, Edge of Twilight is a fast paced cinematic combat and action game set in a steampunk inspired fantasy world.

"Edge of Twilight appealed to us because of its exquisitely original vision," said Katie Morgan, Executive Vice President at SouthPeak Games. "We look forward to working with the talented team at FUZZYEYES on this incredibly ambitious title."

Edge of Twilight promises a look into a post-apocalyptic landscape where day and night no longer coexist. As the only living half-breed, Lex, the player travels between the two parallel realms engaging in over-the-top battles and exploring a living and breathing, yet desperate, landscape.

"Edge of Twilight has been our labor of love for some time now and we could not be more excited to partner with SouthPeak to bring it to market," said Wei-Yao Lu, CEO of FUZZYEYES. "There is still so much to reveal about the game we can't wait to share more."

<![CDATA[A Glimpse Of The Edge Of Twilight]]>

The folks at Fuzzyeyes Studio have got this teaser thing down pat. First they distribute it via YouTube, of all places, which isn't really conducive to discernible details. Then they trim it to 20 seconds long, which is actually closer to 12 once you figure in titles and blank spots. While I still see some traces of the Planescape flavor I saw in the screenshots previously, the combat looks a great deal more visceral than I expected. I suppose this is the action portion of this action adventure game.

<![CDATA[Edge of Twilight Channels Planescape]]> Edge of Twilight is a 3rd person action adventure game for the 360 and PC that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that combines steampunk and alternative fantasy elements to create something vaguely reminiscent of something out of the Planescape D&D universe. You might remember the name from Planescape: Torment, the best D&D computer game ever created no matter what you or anyone else says. For more on the story and setting, visit Edge of Twilight.com, which really drives home the whole Planescape feel of the title. Otherwise check out these beautiful first screenshots of a game that I will be paying a great deal of attention to in the coming months.
