So if they're politically incorrect enough to theme it after the company, I wonder if they'll go so far as to have you making big bucks in the slave trade? Cutting the Atlantic off the map doesn't erase the money they made off slaves there. And that's setting aside all the other crap they pulled. Everywhere.

I was surprised when I heard about this, and hoped it would die in development. And now here it shows up just in time as a balm to the wounds of the down-on-his-luck white man as his economic empire falls down around his ears. All hail colonialism. I'm sure Great Great Grandfather Sir Exploitation is getting a stiffy in his grave.

@svetlana: Humans are mean, history sucks. The Medieval ages had slaves and witch burning, Viking's were glorified slavers, many Crusader's were little more then bandits raping the mid-east , US colonization of America and the following genocide... East India trading company is no worse then all the other fun video game genres.

@delRock: [Different moments in history aren't genres. Genres are, say, free platformer, FPS, MMO, etc.] But who's exonerating "other fun [historical] video games"? I'm not saying they're not fun. Winning, in the face of adversity, against the computer/console/other players, is fun. But when your adversity is hordes of Native Americans you've decided to slaughter, heroically and ridiculously reversing Custer's idiocy? You're a bit morally off, to enjoy blowing them away. And running around rattling your sabers for Jesus, knocking off Moors left and right in a historical crusade game? Mashing the buttons may be fun, winning against the system may be fun, but taking joy in the story, in your symbolic Christian hero sinking his knife deep into the throat of some Arab stereotype...if that gets you off, you have problems.

Obviously being able to figure out what you enjoy may not be your first or second or even third impulse, when you're kicking back with a favorite game. Disentangling joy-of-method vs. joy-of-gameworld may be difficult. But if you manage to do it even partway, and find yourself taking pleasure in raping the world the way it has been raped before, "just for old time's sake," even, you're a bit sick.

I love the idea of Trade 'em Up being a named genre, which we can then abbreviate to Trmup, and then misspell Trump. Bring on the Trumps!
