I've crossed the US canada border via car 15 times now and have had my car searched once (and on the canadian side)...
Something else to consider is that getting out of the car and talking to the cop is more or less legit in Canda. In America, it's considered a preamble to violent resistance. Obviously, this guy didn't deserve what happened to him, but a little cultural awareness goes a long way.
Nonetheless, this is nasty stuff and it sucks that this guy had to go through it.
This ain't no game!
Seriously tho crossing the U.S Mexico border is just aggravating especially being Mexican. They make you feel like you're a criminal grilling you daily. So who knows the circumstances behind the incident but I can see how stuff like this could happen near a border.
I read so much about the federales roughing up people coming from Canada. Laptops getting siezed, hard drives duplicated, etc. I can only imagine the implications for someone who probably keeps their life on a laptop (such as a writer)
I've been hearing a lot of horror stories about crossings at the border. I haven't done it in a long time, personally only gone to the States by plane. For the most part people seem nice though I do get "extra attention" due to my background, but I can't really blame them for that. This sounds very shady and I hope they do a proper investigation.
@Nahir: In my entire life, I have never heard of someone getting across the border without hassle (either coming or going). I'm afraid of the damn thing, it just sounds absolutely ridiculous.
Anywhere from confiscating tons of stuff to completely disassembling someones car and leaving the owner to deal with putting it back together.
@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.: The last time I crossed was with my family coming back from a wedding in the States. They told us they wanted to search our car. The inspector lady opened our trunk and saw all mom/sis' shoes and dresses (brown weddings are stupidly long over multiple days) said "I'm not going through that" and let us go.
A whole car disassembled though? That sounds like a very interesting story.
Read this on /. earlier ( though obviously they didn't credit him as the Crysis writer :P)
As they said " Watts faces US charges of assaulting a federal officer. Based on the accounts, one can assume Watts did so by hitting the officer's hand with his face"
Pretty shady stuff.
@sbtim: Don't worry you're not the only one to have an epic fail are working out that sentence. :P
Dmitsuki was just asking how the hell you hit someone hand with your face.
It was implying that they beat him up. with their fists, to his face. Some pepperspray for maximum effectiveness.
You know, I don't know what it is about this game.
It clearly is GOW repackaged, but there's something about the storyline that seems far more interesting.
Maybe its the nod to the Orpheus myth, the reworking of Christian iconography, or even the critical eye it casts towards Christianity...
But now that I think about it, I think I actually like this more than GoW because it's about Christianity in general- something that feels much closer to home than Greek Mythology. Though Greek Mythology is a great setting for storytelling, I just don't feel as emotionally attached to the imagery or story as I do when speaking about contemporary religion.
Though I wish they'd attempted to be at least a little more subtle with their presentation, I'm officially interested in this game. I wonder how far they will take the Orpheus connection...
Am I the only one that remembers when it was just called PGA Golf? I mean, what was wrong with that? If you are going to buy a golf game, you are going to buy a golf game right?
Tiger will do them more harm than good now I think. Although in this stupid world of celebrity he may well be 'born again' yet in the public's eyes.
@plasticmouse: I think most people remember it, but I bet more people own a Tiger Woods game than have owned the non-celebrity older versions.
Tiger Woods reinvigorated golf and somehow made it cool again. To go back to just PGA Golf would kill their sales, and I think EA knows this. At least keeping Tiger Woods' namesake on the package would be a toss up.
