As far as I have seen when Natal has been showcased is that it lags significantly. You can probably work around that in most casual games, but I think any game that requires precision and fast reactions isn't going to work well with it.
However, it could actually be useful if they couple it with a controller. Things like doing hand motions to give orders to team-members, head-tracking for panning the camera around, or glod knows what else someone can come up with could really enhance gameplay.
But then there's the issue of not everyone having Natal, which means they're restricted to what they can do with it to not give Natal owners a severe advantage over non-Natalers, particularly if online play is involved.
So much for consoles being universal and not having the issues of PC development having to support different configurations...
@MtlAngelus:
I definitely hope they use Natal for supplimentary things like hand gestures. As far as level playing field, hopefully MS will make this thing as ubiquitous as possible by not only bundling it / new 360s, but pricing it low enough for devs to assume that the majority of the install base bought it....or will be willing to buy it.
Shure, playing a shooter with Natal sounds great..but you know how people in shooters like to 'teabag' in shooters? emagine what they would do if they had that kind of range of motion D:!
@Cloud_Hiro: The teabagging thing would be a blessing in disguise. Kids would tire themselves out after a couple baggings, or better yet, pull a muscle. At very least they'd get some exercise to go with their smack talk. Everybody wins?
@Billkwando bought his tickets for Hyde's US tour: Teabaging is done to be a insult to pretty much say I humped your face. What Im saying is things alot worse than teabaging could happen with natal!
I would love to see a horror-themed shooter with Natal enabled. The system would watch the diameter of your pupils to determine when you are most scared, then unleash its enemies at the worst possible moment.
If they really have balls, they wouldn't even announce it. They would just leave a message on the box: "Play with Natal turned on for a special surprise."
Hey Dude Huge, why the hate? There are many ways you can use Natal without having motion controls. Wanna here my idea? no? well fuck you Imma share anyway
Imagine if you will fable 2, now imagine that fable 3 doesn't have a dog companion, it has a human companion. Lets say you were sad and you're companion could recognize that maybe he might try to cheer you up, or you're laughing at something funny in the game and you're companion is laughing right along with you or maybe it was a tragic scene and it berates you for being a heartless dickwad. Maybe you don't like the companion, the game recognizes that and the companion starts to antagonize you or you like him and hes friendly and helpful. What if a game could recognize and respond to you're actions and emotions? In Gears terms what if you , the player, were laughing your ass off during the scene where Dom kills his zombie wife? The game then shows Marcus laughing, Dom gets pissed and then attacks Marcus. Come on that shit'd be awesome.
THAT'S IT!
Why not implement ballerina movements to Marcus and Dom?
Imagine it. Marcus skipping and twirling around whilst chainsawing a locust in the air. Artistic, uniquely brilliant and frickin hilarious. Also don't forget it can be a tangential learning experience and get people interested in ballerina.

I've been thinking about this. One of the benefits of using a controller is having something solid for a trigger to knacker your finger against for constant shooting.
I try making that motion in the air with my fingers, and I notice I cant knacker them nearly as fast, and they kind of hurt having a 'phantom controller' after a while.
Maybe a combination of the two. Use a controller, but if you want to kick your foot out Duke Nukem style, by all means. That would be pretty sweet.
Or maybe some sort of Time Crisis style rifle you can hold that Natal will recognize? But then that inserts a whole new slew of problems when Fox News starts picking up footage of kids playing war in front of their tv's with mock assault rifles.
Imagine a cheap, home accessible Silent Scope, and you've got your sensation.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Try this: tuck your pinky and ring finger in. Then have your middle and index fingers pointing out and your thumb pointing up (like a pistol). Now, unless I am mistaken, Natal can simply map "wiggle" movements of your thumbs as recognizable shots. I think it would work much better as making your hands the gun rather then holding a phantom gun controller.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Or Activision can sell you a wooden gun knockoff that doesn't remotely look like a gun and at the same time sell you a gyro sphere-like treadmill for movement.
Kids lose weight, wooden thing doesn't look like a gun, no one gets in trouble, MS's Natal a success and Activision sells millions.

@(Zombie) Goldwings: You know, I was thinking, they might actually have some sort of control stick for the 360. Natal is still in design stage, and even though the tagline is you are the controller, that doesn't mean they couldn't package an "optional input stick" (OIS) for tighter controls and movement.
It seems that you don't need anything in your hand for a sword or gun, but it could be nice to make something that accomodates those that feel more comfortable with it, a placebo effect if you will. If you wanted to move in the game, you could swing your hand in that motion or you could use the analog stick on the OIS. You could bang bang like NSF or click a button. Why not have the best of both worlds?
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: That's part of the problem really, in a game like gears, ESPECIALLY in a game like gears, there are only a few bodily stances the in-game character can make. You can't actually crouch in that game so what would happen if you did crouch in real life?
If they wanted to make a Natal game of that caliber, it would take them years to nail down specific stances and motions. I just don't see it happening this gen.
Natal controls for gears of war would involve a lot of flexing and teeth grinding. And if the game could pick up your voice like Milo, you'd also have to shout really loud about how you're 100% secure in your masculinity because you banged three chicks last night.
@Mister Jack Wants Blazblue Challengers: eventually natal wants proof. It demands you bring the girls back and show it. Then it wants to watch. It was made to watch. You have to make do half the time with blow-up dolls, and mops with makeup and dresses on. The downward spiral makes you sink further and further into yourself, eventually ending with a murder suicide. Two blow up dolls, a coathanger, a mop, and love pillow, as well as some computer hardware were found strewn around the murder site. Experts blame GTA 5.
