Dog From Duck Hunt ]]> CrunchGear points to this pretty amazing Duck Hunt NES zapper lamp that features not only a Duck Hunt lampshade and orange plastic zapper, but also a replica Duck Hunt cart made of cardboard.

Lamp creator fluffypants says that the typical cartridge wasn't large enough to be stable, so she created a 1.5 scale replica to serve as the base. Pretty neat, though I wish she had slapped on a mocking dog on the other side of the shade.

<![CDATA[ And the Greatest Video Game Dog of All Time Is... ]]> parappa_firstplace.jpg MTV Multiplayer tapped a number of industry folks to judge their latest stop on the road to their naming the Greatest Animal in the History of Video Games.

In January they named the greatest horse of videogamedom, Epona, from the Legend of Zelda series. This month they selected the best dog, PaRappa the Rapper, of course.

The judges this time around were Leigh Alexander, of Gamasutra and Sexy Videogameland, Tofuburger of I Can Has Cheezburger, Evan Wells of Naughty Dog, and myself.... of here.

Hit up the site to read everyone's reasoning and their number two and three spots. I picked the dog in Duck Hunt and the zombie dogs of Resident Evil as my runners-up.

<![CDATA[ New Duck Hunt For The Wii? No. ]]>

Is Nintendo (by way of Hudson Entertainment) working on a new Duck Hunt for the Wii, to be titled New Duck Hunt? Possibly. But if you're looking to the above video sent to us by a number of readers as proof of such a product, you'll get nothing. How do we know this clip of a game some random kid on the internet found on his dad's desk is bogus? Because the gameplay in New Duck Hunt, well, it sucks, that's how. Nintendo's own legit Duck Hunt demo at E3 2006, which also featured bull's eye, skeet and UFO shooting, was actually amazingly fun and later became part of Wii Play. Link's Crossbow Training is similarly light years beyond this fake half-assed effort.

Look, if you want to pile up virtual duck carcasses, there's always Ultimate Duck Hunting.

<![CDATA[ Behold The Duck Hunt Sweater ]]> We're pretty current on our Duck Hunt coverage, but I was horribly dismayed to find that we'd been beaten to the punch on this fabulous, hand-crafted, oversized Duck Hunt sweater. Craftster contributor "Quacker Jacks", pictured, put this NES-inspired piece together in just a little over a month of power knitting, posting the fruit of her labors it on the Craftster forums way back in February. Man, she looks like a party! Those curtains, however, have got to go.

<![CDATA[ EA Los Angeles Used For Duck Breeding ]]>

Our bitter, cold hearts? Melted! Electronic Arts Los Angeles sent the following email to employees:

As many of you have seen and heard by now, we have 8 new additions to the campus. Our mom and dad ducks (that hang out in the water feature) are now the proud parents of 8 lil' fuzzy ducklings. Please be respectful of them and observe them from a safe distance as mom and dad are feeling a bit protective of them, as you might imagine.

Please refrain from littering or putting out cigarettes in the sand and water feature area.

Please don't feed them Chimichonga or the Thai Curry Shrimp (today's Entrée Feature) or any other bizarre thing.

Please keep your distance and enjoy the young'uns while we have them.

So darling, so cute. Word has it that today the family of ducks relocated, and the EALA facility was just used to breed. Yeah, when I think of EALA, duck sex isn't the first thing that jumps into my mind, but I'm not a duck either, so.

<![CDATA[ Papercraft: Nintendo Zapper ]]>

More great papercraft from model meister NinjaToes! This time we have the Nintendo Zapper light gun that I'm sure most of us spent many hours using to play Duck Hunt. Included on the page are plans and instructions for the orange and classic grey versions of the Zapper, with or without fold lines. When you get to the page scroll down past the Samurai Pizza Cats pizza parlour, the One Piece pirate ship and the Batmobile to get to the Zapper. It's a pretty simple morel to put together and great if your just starting out on your new life as an obsessive paper cutter and folder.

<![CDATA[ Clip: Nintendo's Duck Hunt From The 1970's ]]>

The NES version is how most gamers know Duck Hunt. Actually, Nintendo made a light-gun version back in 1976. In hopes of convincing you to buy it, web seller Japan-Games has a fascinating clip of the product, which includes a short unboxing and footage of it in use. While NES users got a pistol, players in the 1970's got a friggin' shotgun. Even after thirty years, the game does look like fun. Noisy as all hell, though.

<![CDATA[ The Oldest Known Duck Hunt ]]> It was called the Seeburg Ray-O-Lite and dates back to 1936, an era when humans had yet to discover "fun." From the description at Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum:

Seeburg was a company with an engineering departments focused on the design of vacuum tube amplifiers and gearing systems for jukeboxes. It was no surprise then that when the electric eye light sensing vacuum tube was introduced in the early 1930s that the Seeburg design teams would introduce a light ray game. [...] This game featured a flying duck with a light sensing tube that would drop the duck when you shot it with the rifle, which produced a beam of light when the trigger was pulled.

The graphics and animation just sound horrible!

<![CDATA[ Duck Hunt in Lego ]]>

A snickering dog holds up the carcass of a still twitching fowl, its eyes wide and glassy, frozen in the moment of its final wakening. Meanwhile, a passing duck kamikaze dives butt-first into the side of the canine's head. All in Lego.

Courtesy of bits & bytes & pixels & sprites, who are looking for similar Nintendo in Lego images. Metroid would be nice to see. Forgive the lack of punch line in this post, water is shooting down from my ceiling at a truly alarming rate.

<![CDATA[ Ryu Hunts Ducks ]]>

Street Fighter's Ryu and that dog from Duck Hunt might seem like unlikely bedfellows, but they make beautiful music together. This mash-up beautifully brings together arcade gaming and the NES into what looks like a fun final product. How's that for getting it on?

Thanks, Dan

<![CDATA[ Nintendo Rube Goldberg Machine ]]>

Three guys Eric, Juan and Steve whipped up this Nintendo-themed Rube Goldberg Machine animation for a class project. Sure, the 3D ball's physics are off, but Eric claims the trio were under a tight deadline. The clip features everything from the infamous "cartridge blow" to NES classics like Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. The ending, like life, is a surprise.

<![CDATA[ Revolution(ary) Wish List ]]>

IGN's Matt Casamassina and Mark Bozon put together a little wish list of what they'd like to see in the way of Nintendo Revolution hardware and software. The list is mostly expected, but there were two fantastic ideas lost amont the clutter of a hard drive, no region lock and the like.

Mark calls for a Zelda fighter, which I would love to play, and Matt calls for a Revolution remake of the classic NES title Duck Hunt. I'm a 100 percent behind Duck Hunt 2006, but only if they let you shoot that snickering dog.

What games would you like to see get the Revolution touch?

<![CDATA[ 8-Bit NES Fantasy Baseball Dream Team ]]> dogduckhunt.jpgMcSweeney's — a website so funny its editors should be brutally hobbled for the crime of not having an RSS feed — asked their columnist Rick Paulas to put together his fantasy baseball dream team. And after the orange flourescent fluttering of our Cheetos-saturated hearts, Rick has bravely stepped up to the plate and populated it entirely with 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System Characters.

Here's Rick's pick for star pitcher of his NES All Stars.

Samus Aran from Metroid

Yes, she's a woman. Yes, her history as a bounty hunter causes others to distrust her. Yes, her body suit might not be legal. But it's all worth it. She has a fucking arm cannon built in. Literally.

Right on, Rick! Let's hope the team uniform will accommodate her bikini. His first baseman?

Dog from Duck Hunt, 1B

Despite having the reputation as a "clubhouse cancer" one gotten from always laughing at others, no matter how serious the issue the large canine is an annual Gold Glove recipient. However, his batting leaves much to be desired, as he continues to ignore the advice from the batting instructor to grow opposable digits.

<![CDATA[ HowTo: Make a Duck Hunt Sniper Rifle ]]> ducksnipe.jpg

From the creators of the world s largest and smallest NES controllers comes a truly must have for any hardcore Duck Hunt fan.

The Duck Hunt Sniper Rifle can blast the eyes out of an animated duck from across a football field if you have a long enough cord.

Attack of the Show has both a video and step-by-step guide for creating your own scoped light rifle for the NES. All you ll need are three NES guns, an Airsoft Super 9 rifle, some pipe, chips, resistors, circuit board, switches and a desire to be gunned down by a handlful of humorless Metro SWAT guys responding to calls of a man with a sniper rifle laughing manically at his television in a third floor apartment.
