Perruchon didn't own a PS3 until the cheaper and slimmer model hit and had been spending the last few years playing his Xbox 360. The PS3 reminded him how much he liked the DualShock design, which inspired this table.

No word whether this will actually go into production, Perruchon's DualShock table uses controllers to buttress glass surfaces. The design is for the black DualShock and the white one. Another concept image below.

<![CDATA[Red, Blue DualShock 3 Pads Already Available]]> Forget that Sony said the new DualShock 3 controllers would be out in October. Just, forget about it. It's only August, and already, they're out there, complete with the new PS3 logo.

Reader Boomy has already picked himself up a blue one, at Best Buy, while reader Presto117 got himself a red one at his local GameStop.

<![CDATA[PS3's Satin Silver Dualshock]]> The Playstation's Dualshock 3 is getting three spiffy new colors this fall: Satin Silver, Deep Red and Metallic Blue.

The silver controller, shown here resting in my knobby hands, is already available at GameStop through September. Then in October all three colors will be available at most retailers.

<![CDATA[PS3 Getting Blue, Red Controllers]]> While Japan has a few different PS3 colours to choose from, Americans are stuck with...black. Oh, and a silver controller. But only until October, because in October, there'll be two new controller shades to choose from.

Those shades are "Deep Red" and "Metallic Blue", both of which you've seen before as PSP colours.

<![CDATA[Yup, You Can Now Buy Silver DualShock 3 Controllers]]> As expected, Sony have officially announced that the range of DualShock 3 colours has increased by 1, with the release of PS3 controllers in a fetching shade of silver.

Strange the pads are announced but not the silver console itself, but then, SCEA works in mysterious ways. For example, what's the deal with those White DualShock 3s?

<![CDATA[Sony Rumble Lawsuit Back, Guy Claims Sony Ripped Him Off]]> In 2007, Sony settled a long-running dispute with Immersion, a company holding patents for control pad rumble technology. The world moved on. But now, the lawsuit (or at least part of it) is back.

A guy by the name of Craig Thorner, an engineer who held a few patents related to rumble tech, was a witness in the case, who helped Sony in their attempts to " invalidate Immersion's patents".

Now, two years later, Thorner is suing Sony.

He claims that, shortly after the original Sony/Immersion suit was filed, a company by the name of Performance Designed Products LLC got in touch with him, claiming that, like Sony, they'd been targeted by Immersion's lawyers. PDP asked for his help.

In the process of providing that help, Thorner says he licensed some of his own patents to PDP, and in doing so enlisted the help of some layers. The same lawyers who, it turns out, were in the process of handling Sony's case against Immersion. Those lawyers, Thorner alleges, "encouraged him to accept terms that were less than favorable".

Those terms included a big reduction in the amount of royalty fees he was asking for, along with a provision that would allow not just PDP - but, importantly, Sony as well - to license his patents.

Thorner is now accusing Sony and PDP of working together, scheming to acquire his patents on the cheap, and is suing the pair of them for legal malpractice, as well as suing Sony for patent infringement.

<![CDATA[White DualShock 3 Pads Arrive In The US]]> While we've heard that the silver DualShock 3 controllers will arrive in the US in June, it looks like the even-nicer white pads have already hit.

Reader Henry says he just picked one up at his local Wal-Mart. You can see the pic right here. It's a DualShock 3, it's white, he bought it in the continental United States, and it cost him a pinch over $50.

As you can see from the bilingual packaging, that's not a Japanese box. Could a Western release for the white PS3 be far behind?

<![CDATA[Silver DualShock 3 Hits US In June]]> A listing has appeared on GameStop's website for a silver DualShock 3 controller for the PlayStation 3. Which is odd, since there are no silver PlayStation 3 consoles available in the United States.

Maybe Sony Computer Entertainment America are thinking of releasing the silver PS3 - currently only available in Asia - in the US. Maybe they just feel like tarting up the currently drab lineup of DS3 pads. Either way, GameStop say the pads will be out towards the end of June, and they're going for the standard price of $55.

Shame it's the silver pad and not the classier white one.

<![CDATA[The Real Reason Noby Noby Boy Is On The PS3]]> Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi gave Game Developers Conference attendees a chance to learn "All About Noby Noby Boy" today, including that the game was originally developed on the Xbox 360.

Takahashi showed off an early prototype of the title, way before it was bound for release via the PlayStation Network. While crude, it showed off many of Noby Noby Boy's gameplay mechanics. But there was a problem, forcing the game to change platforms.

Takahashi says that, because the Xbox 360 was selling so slowly in Japan at the time, you might think that it was a political decision. But the switch from the Xbox 360 to PS3 was due to one thing: the horizontal layout of the PlayStation 3's DualShock/Sixaxis.

The Xbox 360 controller's diagonal analog stick layout was simply no good.

Besides, Takahashi says that one of his hopes for Noby Noby Boy was that it wouldn't sell very well. More on that later.

<![CDATA[Japan Gets Cute Little Resistance 2, DualShock 3 Bundle]]> We've a soft spot for Resistance 2 and Japan. Why? Because the game's marketing there was vastly superior, and also because it's led Sony Japan to come up with adorable little bundles like this.

To be released on March 12 for ¥8980 (USD$95), the little box will include a copy of Resistance 2 along with a DualShock 3. While the box pictured has a white controller, Sony say the pack will also come in black and silver as well.

We'd recommend the white one, as we do in all DualShock 3-related matters. Its matte finish just feels better.

<![CDATA[Obama Campaign: Put Down Those Wii-motes And Vote!]]>
In a get-out-the-vote ad from presidential hopeful Barack Obama, the candidate is reminding voters that they need to make sure they actual do vote on Election Day, November 4. This new ad points out that you cannot make history on November 4 with a Wii-mote. (We'll take this to mean you can make history with a DualShock 3 or an Xbox 360 controller. Thank you very much Trophies and Achievements!) Obama, who is also running in-game campaign adverts in Burnout Paradise, has previously confessed his love for Pong.

<![CDATA[LittleBigPlanet Gets DualShock 3 Bundles Too]]> Taking a page from the Wii Play playbook, Sony is going to bundle one of its more popular upcoming games, LittleBigPlanet, with a DualShock 3. It'll do it in Japan anyway, hoping that the Japanese video game consuming public will be awed by the woolen cuteness of Sackboy and bring some vibrating solenoids into their workaday lives. Price is just 7980 yen, about $79 in increasingly worthless U.S. dollars.

For the PlayStation 3 plus LittleBigPlanet bundle box, please hit the jump.

You wouldn't believe how long Japanese gaming publication photographers took pictures of this box at Sony's booth. It was like hours. Don't ask why we timed it. You'll find out later.

<![CDATA[Resistance: Retribution, Resistance 2 Connect To Add "Infected" Gameplay]]> PlayStation Portable owners, you're about to get a bit more value our of your copy of Resistance: Retribution. If you also own a copy of Resistance 2 for the PlayStation 3 — and if you're actually going to grab Retribution, there's a good chance you'll have one — connecting your PSP to the PS3 will "infect" your copy of Retribution.

What does that actually mean? All new gameplay features, unlockable items and new areas that can only be reached with an infected copy.

James Grayson, protagonist of Resistance: Retribution, will be infected by the Chimera virus similar to the original game's Nathan Hale. He'll be able to regenerate health — all health packs will be removed — and experience the game in an all new way.

In addition to health regeneration, Grayson also gets a new weapon, the HE .44 Magnum featured in Resistance 2.

Grayson also gets the ability to breathe underwater, letting him access areas of Resistance: Retribution that a normal version of our hero could never reach. That will likely play into finding the new unlockable intel only available if your copy of the PSP game is "infected."

It's a cool little feature that looks to add some replayability to Bend Studio's PSP game, something that hardcore Resistance fans will likely get a kick out of. We'll go play it on those lovely new PSP 3000s right.... NOW.

<![CDATA["PSP Plus" Brings DualShock Control To PSP]]> Sony is adding rumble support to the PSP, in a roundabout way, courtesy of the DualShock 3. Using the new "PSP Plus" feature in games like Resistance: Retribution, owners of both the PSP and PlayStation 3 will be able to forego the portable platform's analog nub for a better control experience.

By plugging in your AV-output capable PSP (2000 and 3000 models) and connecting the PSP to the PS3 via USB, you'll be able to switch on PSP Plus control through Resistance 2. Doing so adds DualShock 3 control support, letting you play PSP games on your television with a PS3 controller. It disables aim assist in Resistance: Retribution and lets the player alter their control layout to take advantage of the PS3 controller's extra inputs.

The option requires that gamers have a copy of Resistance 2 in their PS3s, but will not require a firmware update for either the PSP or PS3.

<![CDATA[DualShock 3 And Xbox 360 Frankencontrollers]]> The Xbox 360 DualShock? The PS3 Xbox 360 Controller? Over at Xbox-Scene Forums, moderator RDC has modded an Xbox 360 controller into a PS3 controller, writing: "The D-pad, Select, PS, Start, Square, Triangle, Circle, Cross, L1/R1 and L3/R3 buttons are all wired up right now and working, as are the LEDs for showing which controller it is." So, yes, this Frankencontroller will work with a PS3. And if that wasn't enough, RDC did the same in reverse by modding a DualShock 3 into an Xbox 360 controller. Take a look after the jump.

<![CDATA[DualShock 3 Dated For Australia. Bring Money.]]> SCE Australia have announced an antipodean release date for the DualShock 3. It'll be available on April 24 for - wait for it - AUD$99.95. Which is USD$92. Which is AUD$30 more than the Sixaxis cost. This leaves Australians paying twice as much for a Dualshock 3 as they did for a Dualshock 2 (which went for AUD$49.95), a turn of events that would be comedic if we weren't talking about the PS3 in a PAL territory. Australians, you, uh, may wish to consider importing.

SYDNEY, 15 April 2008 - Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) today announced the launch of the DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller for the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3), which will be available in Australia from Thursday 24th April 2008 with an RRP of AU$99.95 and in New Zealand from 9th May 2008 with an RRP of NZ$109.95.

The DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller provides the most intuitive game play experience with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive SIXAXIS™ motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion will be more realistic than ever as the user will be able to feel the rumble right through the palm of their hand. The DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user's body.

DUALSHOCK 3 utilises Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller's USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the PS3 at anytime. By integrating all these features into the unique PlayStation® controller design, the DUALSHOCK 3 will further enhance the advanced game play experience that is only available on the PS3 system.

Key Features:

· Pressure sensors that rumble with each action making every impact feel like you're right in the game

· SIXAXIS™ highly sensitive motion control system senses your every move

· Bluetooth technology for wireless game play; the PS3 system can support up to seven wireless controllers at one time

· Ability to be charged at any time through the PS3 system using the controller's USB cable

<![CDATA[Still No Word On DualShock 3 For Europe]]> Japan are enjoying their DualShock 3s, the US are about to enjoy their DualShock 3s, I'm definitely enjoying my DualShock 3...but what about poor old Europe? Are they to be hoisted upon their well-worn cross yet again, atop which lies a tattered plate with the inscription "Forever Late?" Probably. Sony Europe have "no word" on when the controller will be arriving in the old world, which has no doubt instantly cost them a few thousand sales as impatient PS3 owners pony up and import the (inevitably cheaper) American model.

<![CDATA[Dualshock 3 in the House]]> DSC01937.JPG The DualShock 3 just landed on my doorstep, right next to that pink and green frosting. Even though I've messed around with one before I was still surprised at it's heft. It makes the soon to be obsolete SIXAXIS feel like an empty shell. My one complaint, though I haven't used it yet, is an expected one: No removable rechargeable battery. I know I'm being difficult but I hate being tethered to my PS3 with such an absurdly short charging leash.

<![CDATA[SIXAXIS Discontinued]]> We all pretty much figured that the SIXAXIS was on its last legs now that the DualShock 3 is hitting shelves. And today a Sony rep has confirmed with MTV that this is indeed the case. The SIXAXIS is not more.

Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it's completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).
Our guess is that manufacturing has ceased (or ceased some time ago) and that it's just a matter of shipping out dusty boxes from warehouses at this point. Our other guess is that those who don't care about rumble can soon be on the lookout for some bargain bin SIXAXIES. Is that the official plural? Did we ever have a chance to finalize that?
