Sure took Nintendo a long time to emulate the DSP chip on their VC software... 3 years! Makes me think they might have just requested help from the emulation scene. Still, nice to see this and Pilotwings hitting the SNES VC.

wonder why it took so long over here, hell there's even a couple of injected wads with this game while longer than their official releases

@Shiryu: sorry dude, i'm older. Zsnes achieved DSP emulation in 1997. Thats when i started playing roms on my old 486 and mario kart was one of my first games.

Though i first tried snes9x, but when i found znes, i never looked back to it!!!

Man, now i feel old, xDDDDDD

1997 was when I got Internet at home, 1996 was the first time I got ZSNES, was version 0.300, the first one with correct transparencies emulation. FF6 only looked good on that, SNES9x came much later with them, mostly colabs between authors of ZSNES to implement the coDe. the DSP code for Mario Kart was also ported from ZSNES to SNES9x. Good times... now BSNES rules supreme. I am indeed old for remebering all of this. #speakup

@Shiryu: dam, beat me to it. i got internet till 1997, but i began emulation in 1996, with gb97. I was working as an apprentice of a computer technical on a goberment department, and in one of the pc's i gave support (just running a antivirus program) i found this folder with gameboy as a name, was pretty curious and checked, then i saw this files, zelda.gb, kirby.gb, mario.gb, kof96.gb and i was like, what is this, decided to copy the whole thing to a 31/2 1.44mb floppy disk and brought to my house. found the readme text file and i was mind blowed by what i found!!!!

later in 97 i got internet in my house and the first thing i looked for was "snes roms" on altavista. and that how it all started, xDDDDDDD

@cjlopez: Good times... I don't think its piracy at all, but of course this is questionable. The fact was that even if I was in pure bliss with my PSX, the truth is that being a gamer in Europe, or even worse, in Portugal meant that I knew all about those amazing SNES games out in the States and Japan that never saw the light of day in Europe. Playing from one end to the other of "Final Fantasy VI" and "Chrono Trigger" were priorities. Truly, we were really bady served over here in Europe in those times... I had my revenge, then. =)

C'mon Mike. Just because you liked Mario Kart when you were younger doesn't mean it's still one of the best racing games around. *finger wag*

Wait, it's just now coming out on Virtual Console? I guess Nintendo must've awakened earlier than expected from their winter hibernation.

    @mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta:

Man: What's your favorite scary video game?

    Fahey: I don't know.

Man: You have to have a favorite.

Fahey: Uh...Mario Kart. You know, the one with the guy with the black mustache who just sorta rides around and stalks the other racers. What's yours?

    Man: Guess.

    Fahey: Uh...Sonic Unleashed

Man: Is that the one where a hedgehog had claws for fingers?

    Fahey: Yeah...Werehog.

Man: Sonic-that's right. I liked that game. It was scary.

Fahey: The first one was, but the rest sucked.

@mintycrys is HOT for Bayonetta: Dude, show some respect fr the karts, it was one of the best (well... the only thing remotely similar to ) car racing games of the moment. Even stunt race lacked the beauty and cleverness of those banana peels. damn banana peels....

It'll always be one of the best, cause it's not a matter of polygons, cockpits and physics, it's all about the boost mushrooms.
