In reply to No Loading Time Problems For DS Sequel
I have PQ1 on DS and never experienced bad load times. Never picked up Galatrix though. Another commenter said it wasn't worth it but I liked the demo. Not as good as the first because I was a bit confused, but it's acceptable I suppose.

The hero of this space story...seems to have a tiny head.

Also, I think I'd like to see Metal Gear 4 redone entirely by this translator.

If they are going to incorporate a shooting mechanic in the game-which they do (bow and arrow)-I would suggest to put the crossbow into the game. That will be a nice addition, or an ax. Let me ask you; what new weapons would you like in Zelda?

WoW's inclusion of motorcycles is not a great example of badly matched tech, because they've had steam-punk style stuff from goblins and gnomes since WCII.

The truly out-of-place and technologically-ridiculous-for-its-setting is the giant trans-dimensional spaceship that the Draenei arrived in. Space-goat people? Riiiiiight.

(And yes, I know it's all powered by magic or whatever...still more confusing and out of place than steam vehicles.)

Tentacle rape and giant robots are also common in Japanese culture but that doesn't mean I want it in Zelda.

Kidding aside, a Zeppelin or regular riding helium balloon would seem a more logical step in technology before a train, but so far in reading about it a train seems fine. Just as long as a special skin flute doesn't need to be played in order to change it's direction then we're good.

@madog: What confuses me is that he equates trains with exploration when they're on tracks... As in, someone went before you and built the tracks, rather than free-roaming vehicles of nearly any type.

I guess he could mean the excitement of visiting new places (like personal exploration) rather than being an actual fore-runner who discovers a new area, but all told, trains seem like one of the least obvious choices for a vehicle that's venturing into the unknown. Your examples of blimps would make a lot more sense.

@JChaos: Well I don't know the official name of helium balloons and thought zeppelin fit. It doesn't have to be hydrogen does it? Isn't helium one of the reasons (other than it's coating) that the Hindenburg blew up so spectacularly? It is one of, if not the most abundant substance in the universe. Me thinks...

    @Altima NEO:

I was just going to post a similar comment. I think fans of the series are crying out for a steampunk style Zelda game. I don't think it would be too out of place, and some dungeons in previous games have had a very similar feel to them which felt like they could be almost steampunk

I think a clocktower would be a good setting for Link. A church and also maybe an underground network of tunnels beneath a bustling city

I also think muskets would work in Hyrule - I am sure we've already seen pirates with muskets, but anything like a Colt.45 or modern-day Glock wouldn't really work. Could you really imagine Link with an MP5 or RCP90? Me neither.

The Zelda games are more about swords, slingshots, and boomerangs. Whatever happened to the Fire Rod and Ice Rod? Something which hasn't really carried over well to the modern Zelda games

Man, I never played CONTACT. Thought of getting it sometime, but never really took the initiative.

Now it is a rare game I can't find on shelves, with the exception of a damaged GameStop copy.

Hopefully I don't wait on this game this time.

I think a more "modern" or even "futuristic" Zelda would be interesting, but only as a unique entitiy within the series.

I wouldn't want it to be a permanent change, as it would make it less special in the long run.

After a little thought I don't see why Zelda couldn't one day advance past where we currently are technology wise.

Look at where Final Fantasy started and where it is today. From purely swords and magic to space and a look and feel not all that unlike Star Trek.

Darksiders is similar to Zelda and yet War uses a gun, there are car--that he throws at enemies.

I think as long as the core of what Zelda is remains they can do anything and go anywhere they want with it. Put in rail guns, space, and technology on par with things in Blade Runner, just keep the exploration and adventuring and pointy green hat and you still have Zelda.

@Friedhamster: I sort of disagree. I'm all for the advancement of Zelda into new territories but at its heart it's supposed to be a "fantasy" and not a "science fiction" affair. Final Fantasies are all separate episodes that simply share a name. Although the Zelda series is also episodic in that same regard, it has some core similarities that if altered, will completely change the series to something unrecognizable or at least too different to have the name Zelda.

@AceofCase: I sure the same could have been said about Final Fantasy. As you noted both are episodic. Yet Final Fantasy I dare say even more so with having only numbers to differentiate between each of the core titles and yet look how different XIII is from the first.

Both games have something that they keep doing. Final Fantasy games are, and most likely always will be, an RPG game. Zelda an action adventure game. As long as they keep those things central I feel they could do whatever else they like.

Y'know I wouldn't be so against a modern Zelda, I mean it can't be to bad..

As long as Ninty knows what they're doing they should be fine, it's not like they're dropping Link in GTA or anything like that. If they introduced the setting believably...then I have full confidence.

I'm not a HUGE Zelda fan, but I respect the series enough to want to see Ninty experiment with it...
