I'm looking for a honest, non-fanboy response here. Which drums are better, RB2 or GH:WT. I don't have either game and am only interested in the drumming, so which stand alone kit is better (not taking into account the actual games themselves)?
@Gray665: I'm going to have to say Rock Band 2. They are made of sturdier metal and plastic, especially the foot pedal, and the striking noise of playing them has been greatly reduced when compared to the Rock Band 1 drum set.
I played the Guitar Hero drum set at Best Buy and it felt cheap in comparison. And people had already broken the plastic cymbals included on the Guitar Hero drum set in two, both of them. It looked to me like the cymbals were horribly designed. A plastic piece like that is bound to break when put under even moderate abuse.
Wake me up when plastic peripherals of questionable quality start selling for a reasonable price.
I still can't believe the legions of people who pay $70 for what is essentially a specially-shaped regular controller. I have a GH III guitar I got for free and I gotta say, with how cheap the thing is built, if I would've paid anything over $40 I would've felt ripped off big time.
@BanjoGinga: Superior guitar, I can see. But if you're implying the guitar hero drums are superior in terms of quality, I have this great beachfront property I'd LOVE to sell to you.
I have an RB1 guitar for PS3, and planned on buying a GHWT set, so all my instruments would be cross-compatible, I'd have a more sophisticated drum kit, etc. But after so many project cancellations, lay-offs, and the general corporate douchebaggery of Activision, I've kind of decided to be a conscientious objector to Guitar Hero for now. Sorry, Neversoft!
Love how that "Harmonix is hiring" ad is on the Guitar Hero: World Tour article. :P
-_- Can't we just all get along and make instruments that are fully compatible? =/ People are just gonna stick with stuff they have and both sides'll lose business.
This is sort of funny if you think back Harmonics tried to patch Rock Band to work with the Guitar Hero guitar and Activision halted them. Now they are whining about Rock band not patching to use their controllers.
@detto: Seriously. How did that happen? I wouldn't be surprised if we see an update for RB1/RB2 (if Activision plays nice and lets them) to resolve this issue, as Harmonix are very passionate about people enjoying their games, whichever peripherals they choose to use.
@EVILLAMA: Yeah, but it would be even funnier if Activision blocked them from releasing this patch as well. Then the circle of ridiculosity would be complete!
"WTF Harmonix! You can't release that patch!" "It's Harmonix's fault. They need to release a patch." "WTF Harmonix! You can't release that patch!"
Uhm yes, because my wife would kill me if I got even more fake instruments. Also, fake instruments are fucking expensive. Of course I would rather just by the game and not the whole package.
yeah, I am planning on only buying the disc for one of the games, and the package deal for whichever one works. and then the RB1 disc because I was playing that on my roomie's machine until recently.
But yeah, the compatability is the determining factor in which one I purchase, though I was hoping to purchase the GH one simply because it has more pads, and thus would be more realistic for my drummer (who actually is a drummer)
"Until that update is made to the Rock Band software, the Guitar Hero World Tour drum controller will not function in the PlayStation 3 version of that game."
Hmm, the way I hear it, the Guitar Hero World Tour drum controller doesn't work too great with Guitar Hero World Tour either :)
As a UK-based PS3 owner with no existing music games or peripherals (but enthusiasm and a bunch of keen friends!), I had been planning to buy the full instrument set and game for World Tour and then just get the Rock Band game disks. However, this compatibility concern - in addition to reliability concerns about the Guitar Hero drum kit, and useability concerns about the guitars - has me thinking that I'll probably be better off just buying the complete Rock Band 2 instrument set and game, picking up the Rock Band 1 disk so that I can import most of the tracks, and just forgetting about World Tour altogether. Any thoughts?

So yeah, go with Rock Band 2's drum set.

Heck, I can walk into any retail store and get a GHIII Les Paul for $40...and that's WITH a copy of GHIII or GH:A thrown in.
Pass.

Too bad that in both situations Harmonics was the bereaved.

I recommend everyone to do just this.
