Unless I'm mistaken, the exact same thing happened when Fight Club was being written. The book describes a couple of do-it-yourself explosive recipes, and originally I think the author grabbed some real ones off the net, but before it was published it occurred to him that "Yeah, I'll probably get in trouble if some retard kid reads me book and uses the recipes to blow up a school."

So the book still has recipes, but they're bogus, just like in this GTA4 story.

@nworobes: Actually, he didn't decide to take the recipes out, his publisher did. However, it got very close to a final print before anyone saw how this was a bad idea.

In fact our society goes as far as to punish the free thinkers and reward the idiots in my opinion. It's like if anyone can come up with some way to hurt themselves doing anything it's not their fault, it's the fault of whoever made it in the first place. wtf.

@nworobes and @Theoutlet: Actually your both wrong, in the book it WAS published. It was the movie that changed them, and it pissed the hell out of Palahniuk because of how much research he had put into it.

@Farnic: I'd assume it's probably the latter. To be honest, just by mearly reading newspaper articles, most people can discover most of the ingredients needed to make it.

I rule an exception though, since the GTA series receives much bad rep anyways. I just hope no-one suffer from more of this crap again.

@MaxDragon7: Hot Coffee was not a mod. It was gameplay programmed by Rockstar locked away on the disc that you could play by modding the game. Not really the same thing.

I really hate it when the drug culture overlaps with the game culture. Sure Rockstar likes being edgy but (this maybe because I grew up around this kind of shit) I never found the drug related parts of their games fun... just uncomfortable in an "I don't want to be playing this" kind of way.

yeah, i have nothing against marijuana but i DESPISE lethal drugs like meth, crack and heroine.

they ruin too many lives and families. i hate it.

and if i EVER find out if my fruends or family do it, i would put them in a rehabilitation center for immediate medical help.

and don't EVAR let me catch anybody at kotaku doin it, THEY KNOW BETTER.

except for the trolls and facebookers, they don't know any better and tend to have a consistency of stupidity and hate.

@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Unless im forgetting something at no point during either gta 4 does the main character do drugs. Johnny is trying to get Ashley off drugs and im sure Niko says he doesn't do that stuff. Seems rockstar are actually being quite responisble about it.

They couldn't just not include drugs in the game. That would just create this weird world where you are meeting a drug dealer who sells cigarettes or something. How would Niko's story advance without meeting people in illegal businesses? Get a job at a burger joint and work there for a couple of years until he is manager at which point he starts moving onto better things?
