This is not a reboot of the Battle Arena Toshinden series, this is another game that's spelled differently (in Japanese that is) that just happens to also be pronounced "Toshinden"

Whatever. The Bouncer did what it was aiming to do: To be an interactive film, and dammit, flawed controls, short length and questionable enemy A.I aside, it still isn't as bad to me as people say it was. That game may be a dud for Square-Enix financially, but as far as I'm concerned, it's still a worthy title to have in my library of PS2 games.

Bouncer was not a bad game. Though it was quite short, it did a fine job telling the story from 3 different perspectives and implementing slightly different gameplay depending on which character's point of view you wished to follow. Silly dialogue aside, the game was rather entertaining for the period of time it lasted (2-3 hours, i forget exactly what my last play through was). Of course I do have a gripe with the some of the near end game unlockables being bullshit(really donkey kick?).

Are you kidding? I played through it recently, its quite horrible. Many of the scenarios last less than 30 seconds and then the game is asking if you want to save and put points into power ups. Rinse, repeat for 4 hours or less and you have The Bouncer.

@Kitsune Sniper: Yeah, that doesn't really look Toshinden inspired at all. Then again, that could be a good thing since Tracy and Vermillion are the only designs I recall liking.

Dream Factory developed the awesome Tobal series and then they just failed. I played through The Bouncer recently because I'm still shocked and in disbelief that they suck now.

Can't see polygons, especially on the Wii but also the 360, PS3 or hi-end PC, doing that artwork justice.

I remember buying Tobal no. 1 for the PS1 as a kid, because I wanted a fighting game, and couldn't find a copy of Tekken 2. So I thought Tobal would be a decent substitute. Boy, was I wrong. I still think it's possibly th worst game I've ever spent money on.

@Combichristoffersen: Tobal 2 was an excellent game! (at least for the time) Too bad it only came out in Japan and is extremely hard to find now.

I guess people didn't like the Virtua fighter style with DBZ archetype characters.

Bleh, whatever this game is, it's not Toshinden. I don't know who in their right mind would ever play a fighting game on the Wii, either. Oh boy, motion controls in a complex, timing-based genre! This will work so well.

@bfwings55: I tried playing Castlevania Judgment with a GameCube controller; to say the least, it didn't help much. The game was built around the motion controls, so a button control scheme didn't fix things.

Of course, there was a lot more wrong with CV: Judgment than just the controls, so maybe that was a bad example...

@Archaotic: every fighting game ive played on teh wii has sucked , i havent played CVT yet, so the jury is still out on that game. i played bleach on the wii, and i traded that piece of crap the next day. same for dbz,and castlevania.

memo to nintendo: make all fighting games on the wii classic control compatible. thank you.

@Archaotic: I've found the Wii to actually be quite a fertile ground for fighting games.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Smash Bros Brawl, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core and AC Plus, King of Fighters Collection, Samurai Shodown Anthology, the Dragonball Tenkaichi games, 4 versions of Street Fighter 2 on the virtual console, plus a load of SNK fighters on the Virtual Console. All of which (except for the DBZ Tenkaichi games) I play with either my classic controller or my Hori fighting stick, so I'm actually very happy with my Wii in terms of fighting games.

@DarkLinkinfinite: exactly. I think the wii is pretty great for some of that old school fighting. If only ready 2 rumble was good and capcom made powerstone and rival schools on the thing.

And i dont think they made it for wii because it has the largest install base, but because these. Are small time devs who not only probably lack the funds to make a high production game, but also probably dont want to compete with the likes of street fighter, king of fighters, blazblue, mk, tekken, doa, soul calibur, and virtua fighter.

@(Zombie) Jolan: No, the Bouncer is a godawful travesty of a beat-em up. Limited enemies, having to buy your moves, forced AI partners, and way too many cutscenes to sit through for like half a minute of gameplay. It's as though Square gave Dream Factory the order to turn Final Fantasy into a beat-em up without thinking what the genre is or what makes it fun for people in the first place.
