And at least some very, very North Korean kids have Double Dragon. This pic was snapped by photographer Eric Lafforgue at Songdowon International Children's Camp, and the kids are playing the Micro Genius clone. Nice to see that even in oppressive regimes, some kids still get to kick ass with Billy and Jimmy.

Hit the jump for another pic.

<![CDATA[Single Update, Double Dragon]]> As it generally goes when there's high profile Wii release such as Mario Kart, the Virtual Console is keeping a low profile this week, releasing only one game on the Wii Shop Channel for your classic gaming enjoyment. At least they aren't skimping out on quality as well as quality, as this week's release is none other than Double Dragon, the story of two brothers' fight to rescue one girlfriend from a shadowy organization hell-bent on learning the secrets of their martial arts. We are introduced to Billy and Jimmy Lee, as well as Billy's girlfriend Marion, who gets shot to death in Double Dragon II, making the tragedy of the first game all the more poignant. Double Dragon for the NES (500 points) will be available today for those of you requiring a tiny break from all that furious karting.

<![CDATA[Almost One Third Of 360 Owners Unaware Of Xbox Live Arcade]]> A new report from research firm Frank N. Magid Associates reveals that Xbox 360 are not only largely unaware of the console's high definition graphics capabilities, but that nearly a third of owners are unfamiliar with the Xbox Live Arcade service. The report, based on responses from 1800 households (however, only 149 of which actually own an Xbox 360), reveals that while a large number of users have purchased or tried an XBLA title, a surprising number of them are clueless about how they can get UNO, Double Dragon or Pac-Man Championship Edition on their chill white Xboxes.

One can only assume that this "awareness gap" is due to the large number of dedicated Viva Pinata machines.

<![CDATA[Double Dragon Confirmed]]>

Microsoft just confirmed that Double Dragon is indeed coming to the Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow and talked up six other titles heading to the download service.

Double Dragon will hit at 2 a.m. PDT tomorrow for 400 points. The game will include two player co-op, local or live, as well as the option to play with the original graphics or high-def graphics. There's new music, three leaderboards and the ability to earn a dozen achievements and 200 gamescore points.

Microsoft also unveiled six new games for Live Arcade, which already has a library of 58 games:
"Mad Tracks." This 3-D racing party game from Load Inc. and D3Publisher recalls all the fun of playing with toy cars from childhood. Up to four players can race micro cars in a variety of gameplay modes in familiar settings such as a living room, a restaurant and a toy store.
"Rush'n Attack." Also known as "Green Beret," from Konami Digital Entertainment Inc., this is a faithful next-generation update of this classic coin-op arcade title where the player assumes the role of a special forces agent sent behind enemy lines to infiltrate an enemy military complex and free captured prisoners of war.
"Soltrio Solitaire." From Silver Creek Entertainment, this is a collection of 18 different solitaire games, offering co-op and competitive two-player solitaire game modes.
"Spyglass Board Games." From Strange Flavour Ltd. and Freeverse, this offers classic versions of the world's most beloved board games, including chess, checkers, mancala and reversi, as well as the ability to enjoy video chat with friends via the Xbox LIVE Vision camera.
"Street Trace:NYC." This is a hover board racing and arena battle game from Gaia Industries Inc. set against the urban wasteland of future New York City. Make your mark on the leaderboards in intense eight-player action over Xbox LIVE, or battle at home through split-screen or single-player tournaments.
"Undertow." This is a fast-paced action shooter from Chair Entertainment Group that thrusts players underwater as they battle for control of the oceans, and features a robust single player/co-op campaign and up to 16-player multiplayer action over Xbox LIVE.

None of the games have yet been priced or dated.

<![CDATA[Double Dragon Hits Live Next Week]]> Clive Kabatznik, CEO of Silverstar Holdings, let slip in a just released press release that the classic arcade brawler Double Dragon will be showing up next Wednesday on Xbox Live Arcade. While we await the official word to know for sure, as these things tend to see delays, Xbox 360 owners with a taste for kickin' ass may want to put some MS Points aside for next week.

There's some other information about the release of Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe and how awesome it's going to be and all that, but it's hard to get excited with news of Double Dragon's imminent release. I feel like elbowing something!

<![CDATA[Clip: High School Percussion Band Does NES]]>

A lot of the high school video game music themed videos we've seen have ranged from pretty well done to rather embarrassing, but this one definitely falls into the "So Nerdy It's Cool" category. Andrew (He's the one in the Mario costume) from Everglades High School Winter Percussion group sends in this video of he and his compatriots performing NES music entirely on percussion instruments. Their program of hits includes Zelda: Intro, Labyrinth, Double Dragon : Riot (Industrial Area), Super Mario Bros. : Underworld, Overworld, Invincibility, Game Over. The fact that they are all in different character costumes just makes it all the more nerdy cool.

The best part though, is that Andy and friends took the first place prize in what I can only assume was some sort of percussion band competition. Perhaps Andy will comment in and enlighten us on what the competition was since in his excitement he forgot to mention it in his email. Congratulations Andy and all your fellow percussion-ers on an excellent performance! EHS Winter Percussion FTW!

<![CDATA[Finally, The Double Dragon Green Tea]]>

Last one, I promise! Earlier, we've featured the Double Dragon buffet and massage parlor. UK reader Robotsonic sends this along, which he found in his girlfriend's kitchen cupboard. He writes:

I can only assume that drinking this tea will instill in me Sousetsuken ass-kicking powers?

Something tells me that the game wasn't the first to use this "Double Dragon" name nonsense. Call it a hunch.

<![CDATA[And Of Course, Double Dragon Massage]]>

The inevitable follow-up to the Double Dragon buffet? The Double Dragon massage parlor. Reader Nelson snapped this picture in San Francisco (in arty black and white no less). Just look at that happy customer! Nothing quite getting worked over by the Lee Brothers, eh?

<![CDATA[Behold, The Double Dragon Buffet]]>

Reader Steve "Otaku-Man" (his own moniker, not ours) sends the following about that classic beat 'em up Double Dragon:

Apparently after a successful series of games in the 8-bit, and part of the 16-bit era, the Lee Brothers, Billy and Jimmy, have retired from beating up hooligans and "Shadow Bosses" to go into the Chinese retaurant business. As evidence, I present to you a picture of the "Double Dragon Buffet" in Parma, Ohio...

Glad to see the Lee Brothers pulled through those crap comic, animated and live-action adaptations.

<![CDATA[Screenshots: Double Dragon on XBLA]]> Coming in March for 400 points, the sidescrolling sweetness that is Double Dragon will be available on Live for online co-op and general wasting your life alone, by yourself, and with no one around.

The best news is that there will be two version of the game: one will be "enhanced" with smoothed graphics, and the other will be the classic, polygon pixelfest version we all know and love. Which version will you play? I'm disappointed that there is actually better ground/concrete detail on the older version...with "worse" graphics. (Hit the jump for the old school version).

<![CDATA[Angry Nintendo Nerd Takes On Power Glove]]>

There will be some noodle-armed whiners out there complaining that their Wii-wand waving makes it hard to play Twilight Princess for more than 30 minutes. But look how good we have it now, compared to then. The Power Glove, a watershed moment in sucky, half-assed controllers.

Warning: Like all Angry Nintendo Nerd videos, this is packed to the brim with bad, bad language. Not for virgin ears.
