In this first, of several, instructional videos they go over basic attacks, which are done by drawing magical symbols on the screen, and basic defense. It also shows off a quick battle. This looks kinda interesting, but I'm holding out to see how deep it gets.

<![CDATA[Tragnarion Conjuring Doodle Hex Wii]]> Ever since I first heard about Tragnarion Studios' Doodle Hex for the DS, I'd been thinking how great a fit the hex-drawing puzzle combat game would be on Nintendo's Wii. Apparently Tragnarion was thinking the same thing, and now that the Spanish company has acquired an official Wii developer license, it's only a matter of time before the Doodle Hex saga makes its big-screen debut.

"Now that we are releasing in May 2008 our Nintendo DS title 'Doodle Hex', we are really looking forward to work with our recently acquired Wii Licensed, so that we can bring the Doodle Hex saga to this amazing platform. We've been working on preparing some really innovative projects which will make full use of the Wii's unique capabilities" said Ricardo Carretero, Lead Designer of Doodle Hex.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Wii development, Tragnarion!]]>

<![CDATA[Doodle Hex Casts Its Spell In June]]> I've been keeping my eye on Spanish development team Tragnarion's Doodle Hex ever since the art style caught my eye back in August of last year. It's basically a puzzle game where players use the DS stylus to draw various runes on the screen, casting spells to disrupt their enemy, restore their health, or transform their opponents into something a bit less threatening. With over 200 runes to collect and trade, 14 different characters each with their own magical specialties, and Wi-Fi capability for two player battles, Doodle Hex sounds to me like a win, and now we know when it's coming out. Pinnacle Software has announced the game will be hitting store shelves in June, when we'll finally be able to tell if the gameplay is anywhere near as pretty as the pictures. Hit the jump for more screens and gameplay info!

Pinnacle unveils magical first Nintendo DS title for worldwide distribution

Pinnacle Software, a division of Pinnacle Entertainment Ltd, has announced its first Nintendo DS title for worldwide distribution. Entitled Doodle Hex, the game is a magic themed mixture of spell-casting, battle elements and unique Japanese styled anime characters. Doodle Hex will be released in June 2008.

Developed by renowned Spanish team Tragnarion, Doodle Hex has been created specifically for the DS format, and makes innovative use of the handheld's touch screen abilities within a clever spell-casting scenario. Players - nicknamed 'Doodlers' - are enrolled within a special College of Runes, wherein they are charged with learning the intricacies of rune-casting and their use within elemental magic. However, the tedium of college life is regularly interrupted by the school ghost, Kalamazoo, who organizes battles between the students as a way to further test their rune knowledge and casting skills.

Doodle Hex thus takes the form of a competitive spell-casting game where players use the DS stylus to draw their chosen runes in the centre of the touch screen, summoning spells that will transform, attack and weaken their opponent. The ultimate idea of the game is to deplete your rival's energy bar before they can do the same to you.

Using a stunning comic book-effect interface, Doodle Hex works as either a single player or two-player head-to-head experience. In single player mode you will encounter an increasingly tough roster of challengers, where as two player head to head mode will allow you to cast your wits and spells against your friends with exhilarating conflicts and effects. 14 characters are available to select, each of whom has a specialist field in rune use. Having selected a character, the game begins and 'Doodlers' can send as many runes as they are able during the course of a battle, which creates a more open and unpredictable challenge than in turn-based games.

The runes in Doodle Hex can be used to attack, restore health or be unleashed as devastating combination attacks, incapacitating your opponent or even their ability to cast their own spells. As each player gains enough energy, spells available to cast are highlighted; the more powerful runes will deplete more energy from the Doodler's who is casting than the less powerful attacks will. It is possible for both players to block incoming spells by activating a shield icon, however specific combination attacks can counter this, adding an extra element of skill and lateral thinking to the gameplay.

With over 250 available challenges, Wi-Fi compatibility for exciting two-player head-to-head action, and a wide range of unlockable bonuses, Doodle Hex is one of the most innovative and playable puzzle games to hit Nintendo DS to date. Its simple interface and huge number of runes to master combine to create a stunning and truly spell-binding challenge.

<![CDATA[Doodle Hex Characters and Secrets Galore]]> Tragnarion studios has updated the website for their upcoming DS spellcasting battle game, Doodle Hex, the art style of which I have absolutely fallen in love with. The update adds three new characters to the mix: Brooklyn djinn Djin, Nigel Gizmo the technomancer, and Spanish tarot dancer Nadia, all pictured in the gallery below. Along with buddy icons and wallpapers, there are secrets to be discovered on the website as well. On the media page I drew a random rune in the sphere on the lower right and unlocked the game theme song, which is every bit as awesome as the art style. Check out DoodleHex.com to see what you can discover!

<![CDATA[Doodle Hex Casts A Spell On The DS]]> Every have a game's art style just reach out and grab you? That's what happened to me when I first saw these character images from Doodle Hex, a DS game coming in 2008 from Spanish developer Tragnarion Studios. A game of magical combat, players battle by drawing runes on their DS screen to cast spells like fireballs, reflect spells and polymorphs. Over 200 runes can be collected and swapped over wi-fi and used to compete in tournaments or puzzle mode. The promise of over 100 hours of gameplay is intriguing, but the real star here is the artwork. With quirky characters like Strat the emo rockstar elf and the goth witch Fey, the visual style of Doodle Hex has me surrendering with nary a screenshot fired. Hit up the Doodle Hex Website for more peeks at the stylish title, as well as goodies like wallpapers and icons, with the promise of more to come once the game hits Leipzig next week.

Doodle Hex is an original game designed specifically for the Nintendo DS, utilizing unique features like the touch screen and dual screens perfectly to create an addictive and fun title for both single and multiplayer gaming.

Doodle Hex is a game of magical dueling where aspiring "Doodlers" compete head-to-head for fun and glory. Two "Doodlers" fight by drawing runes onto the DS touch screen, in real time, to create powerful and fun spells to inflict on their opponent, such as blasts of fire or curses that shake the opponent's screens, turn their own spells back on them and even turn them into a frog!

Speed of thought, tactical choices and accurate drawing of simple shapes are all important to progress through the game and succeed in Doodle Hex.

Completing tournaments and challenges in the puzzle mode of the game unlocks further runes and spells, allowing players to collect runes to create their own customised spell book. With over 200 runes to collect and swap with friends over wi-fi, Doodle Hex offers over 100 hours of gameplay to budding magicians.

Doodle Hex also features beautiful comic artwork of some of the coolest characters yet seen in a DS game, including: Strat an Emo Rockstar Elf and Fey, a Goth Witch. Tragnarion are providing a sneak peek at some of the fantastic characters and the visual style of the game at www.doodlehex.com.

We're delighted with how Doodle Hex is coming together - the game looks fantastic on the DS, is really addictive and the work our team have done on the characters and art style is amazing. We're showing some examples of this work on our teaser site doodlehex.com, where you can see the doodlers Cassie, Strat, Fey and Kaleb, for now, but we'll be putting a lot more content up there after we take Doodle Hex to the Leipzig Game Convention."
