Wow. I respected the man way before this, but now, even more so. And being Disney means that it won't suffer from the 'Wait, we have to let people outside of the internet know it's in stores?' type of mindset publishers seem to have. I've seen 40 KH 365 days ads on TV in the last two weeks and this is on the prime cable channels, MTV, USA, Food Network, History, Discovery, etc.

Disney knows how to do a proper ad campaign. #disneyepicmickey

Well good thing Disney has lots of money because this is going to cost them a ton. No "mature" gamers are going to buy this so they have to hope there are a lot of little kids begging their parents to buy it for them. That's their only chance at any sort of decent sales. I personally love Disney and I grew up on it but I'm growing to hate my Wii more and more. The last game I played on it was Zelda and Dead Space. I won't be picking this up unless it gets the NextGen treatment it deserves. #disneyepicmickey

@Revolution_is_coming: You know what's funny, that people will actually call themselves gamers, and then pass on a good game just because it isn't "mature" enough for them. Then they whine about how there aren't any good games.

So, don't buy it, don't play it, and don't blame your loss on the anyone but yourself. #disneyepicmickey

@Revolution_is_coming: Bzzt, wrong. I'm a "mature gamer" and I'm all over this shit. I've not bought a Wii game since Brawl and this'll probably be the first one since then.

Read the Game Informer article about the aspirations of this game, not so much the graphics or game play or anything else - what it's trying to achieve, and will succeed at, is that you're going to have a great protagonist and all his life breathed back into him. Mickey used to be an amalgamation of Goofy, Donald, Pluto, et al. and now he's the "aw shucks" personality-less team leader. He's adored and even he doesn't know why. This will be a story to restore that feeling, and will be his own journey of re-discovery through his purpose based on the failure of those before him. By that same token, if the game does it right, you, too, will discover things about yourself alongside him.

If it delivers, we're going to have a good, genre/platform changing game that sets the bar. If it doesn't, then we're going to have a good platformer. #disneyepicmickey

You see a "mature" gamer wouldn't care what console the game is coming out for because a "mature" gamer only cares if the game is good. Hopefully one day you'll understand this idea and stop missing out on good things. Enjoy not playing your wii though... #disneyepicmickey

The game will be more polished for not have to please all the consoles, it will probably have wide appeal, and the Wii has by far the largest user base in all regions. @EmeraldDragon: There have been several games that worked just fine between all consoles, and the Lego titles would be a good place to start. And a polished Wii game will still never look as good as a polished Wii game that then benefits from 360 level resolution.

If the game has some mechanic that absolutely CANNOT work outside of a Wii thanks to its controller, then I could understand. Considering the game initially was not planned for the Wii though, I think they could have found a way to make it work.

Keeping it on the Wii restricts the number of people who may play it. Just because Wi is the best selling console around does not guarantee sales eother. There have been more than enough stats posted to back this up. I just think they're restricting their audience too tightly... especially when the game isn't intended to be simply for kids. You would think for a new IP you'd at least consider multiple opportunities. #disneyepicmickey

@Dark_Mirage: Yeah and all the PS2 games people raved about would have looked much better on the Xbox or GC, but no one ever bitched about that. After last generation, graphics is a complete non-starter in any gaming converstaion.

"Making it work" is exactly why so many multi-platforms are having so much trouble this generation. It either looks off on one, requires a different style of art, or new controls. If more developers had the good since to stop trying to "make it work" and instead "make it right," there would be a lot less crappy games over all.

Yes, making in exclusive restricts the audiance, but that goes back to the "work vs right" arugement above. The biggest problem developers have on the Wii is advertising, they simply assume they don't have to do it. Thye let sites like Kotaku pick up a few stories, throw up an ad at GameFAQS a week before release and assume that's all that is needed. But this is a Disney game, and they are good at advertising. The DS Kingdom Hearts game is one of the very very few advertisments I've seen around here. #disneyepicmickey

@GohanGVO: Yeah, it's likely that the change back was also due to the fan backlash as well, but the 'official' reason appears to be what was mentioned about limitations earlier.

Either way, this DQIX issue (with a number of serious dedicated fans who probably disliked the direction the game was going towards) can't really be compared to what's happening with Epic Mickey (in which nobody really knows what it's going to be like in the long run, and the only people trashing it appear to be those who want it on their console of choice/don't really like the overall look of the game judging from screenshots so far).

People complain that it's not a "next generation" title, but the market for an action-platformer starring Mickey Mouse simply does not exist on the XBox 360 or PS3, regardless of the enthusiasm here on the boards - just like the market for a decent FPS doesn't really exist on the Wii, or a GTA title on the DS.

I'm glad they aren't porting this all over the place -- at least initially -- because it means they can pool their resources into the one platform. It will make a big difference in the quality of the final product. #disneyepicmickey

@kingphilip: The PS2 and PS3 have different markets. A Square RPG is among the top-ten best selling titles ever on the PS2, while the PS3 has no RPGs on its top ten (yet). Kingdom Hearts is a Square RPG with Disney worlds and characters thrown in, and it just "made sense" on the PS2. Epic Mickey is a different beast: a "from the ground-up" action-platformer with an unproven market.

That also means no spiky-haired amnesiacs or convoluted plots, factors apparently needed to satisfy the hardcore constituency.

Also, even if you don't consider Nintendo's history of Disney platformers (SNES had some great ones), two of the last three mainstream KH games were on a Nintendo console.

If it does well, count on a port. #disneyepicmickey

I'm glad that there's at least one developer who's still thrilled to be working with the Wii. The system can use all of the exclusives and solid titles it can get; despite what the rest of Kotaku believes, not everything has to be on the 360 and PS3, and the Wii deserves its own games instead of watered down ports.

Now that that's been said, I guess it's time to flee the topic, because 90% of the comments will be people bitching about the game, its exclusive status, or its graphics. Just like every other time.

Besides, the painting concept just works best on the Wii (in my mind). I mean, the controller is a paintbrush, right? Look what it did for Okami! Arguably, the Wii version is the best version of that game because of the improvements made in the control department. #disneyepicmickey

@spiderweb1986: That's because core gamers only care about how brown the games are and how many hairs you can count on Mickey's face.

Remember how last gen, being a graphics whore was a bad thing and "real gamers" played games with lower-quality graphics? Gotta love how that reversed when the only non-HD system on the market was embraced by the mainstream instead. #disneyepicmickey

@Showmeyomoves!: Oh hey, you got your star back! :) Congrats on the win!

Anyways, I'm glad that they are focusing on one system (the Wii!) rather than fragmenting between the bases and making a dulled-down Wii port.

    Great to see them focus.

@Showmeyomoves!: Epic Mickey's not due for another year. It could've been possible for Disney to start working with MS and Sony with their motion control systems. Of course it'll be released late, but keep in mind that Epic Mickey's not a project that people are expecting from Disney. #disneyepicmickey

@Showmeyomoves!: Don't be an ass. PS3 has motion control right now, as a matter of fact, and you know as well as anyone about plans to enhance that system's motion capabilities and also about Natal on the 360.

There are games being developed right now that take advantage of both systems, so surely if the Epic Mickey team wanted to, they would have gotten in on developer's kit to prep PS3 and 360 versions for Natal and PS3 Motion Control's releases.

Glib, sarcastic responses are sometimes appropriate, but use your head first. #disneyepicmickey

@Narsil: Wow, little sensitive, aren't you?

Anyway, most (if not all) of the games for the PS3 wand and Natal are first party games.

Besides that, this game has been in development for ages, whereas Sony and Microsoft only revealed their motion controllers earlier this year. #disneyepicmickey

@Narsil: dude.. its mickey mouse.. i would imagine that mickey will actually do better on wii than any other system because its something that people automatically think of buying for kids.. and kids will want it too im sure.

just look at sales figures for the lego games.. besides lego indiana jones.. theyve always done better on the wii (and indiana jones was given away with the 360.. so thats cheating).

i know this game is "edgy," but i doubt itd edgy enough to scare kids.. i think the edge is for older people to take it more seriously.

the fact is, the so called "hardcore" dont make games sell in the megamillions.. the wii has a larger audience, and families/kids instantly come to the mind of many when nintendo/the wii and disney/mickey are mentioned. #disneyepicmickey

@Narsil: I'm so confused here. For ages people have been calling the Wii the system for kids and complaining about any kid games for the PS360. Disney is traditionally considered a company that makes things for kids. Does this turn around in thinking come because this game looks good? Is the idea that the Wii only take the poorly done kids games?

Designing this game as a Wii exclusive is the right move. Working on another game with a similar take on Mickey for the PS360 is also a good idea but ports always suck. Disney is right to take this one game at a type so they can really focus on it rather than rush something to retail. #disneyepicmickey

@Showmeyomoves!: Exactly. If Motion Plus showed up too late in development for inclusion in the game, I have no possible reason to think that either Sony or Microsoft's motion controls were available at the appropriate time for the developers to include the technology.

in the same regards.. someone who doesnt like fpses can enjoy monopoly and scene it on the 360. this casual/hardcore division is almost as bad as democrats v republicans. it needs to die. #disneyepicmickey

To be honest with you I don't care about the hardcore = ps360 casual=wii. Though I have seen a larger amount of "casual" games going to the wii while more "hardcore" games going to pc/360/ps3. #disneyepicmickey
