Your Disgaea 3 Saves Are Safe After All]]> NIS America's warning that the Disgaea 3 trophy patch would render previous saved games useless turns out to have been a false alarm, with multiple readers reporting that their saves work just fine.

We've been emails since yesterday regarding the Disgaea 3 update, which was originally thought to provide trophy support for the PlayStation 3 at the cost of all of the progress the player had made in the game to that point. Apparently there was some miscommunication on NIS America's part, because version 2.10 save games are loading just fine with version 2.30. I've confirmed this personally. Go figure.

Kotakuite Rick even went as far as to transcribe the warning displayed before he updated his game:

Features revised in Version 2.30

For version 2.20 the save date typ has changed.
Therefore, take note of the following 3 things.

1. You will need over 2,600KB of Hard Drive space to save.
2.Save Data created with version 2.10 will be updated automatically
3. Save data created by version 2.20 is not compatible with version 2.10.

Save files from 2.20 aren't compatible with 2.10, but they are with 2.30.

Thank goodness, right? This is the sort of misinformation a guy can really get behind.

<![CDATA[Disgaea 3 Getting Trophies In Exchange For Save Data]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser.Disgaea 3 is finally getting trophy support next week, which means it's time to dust off those discs and back up your save files, because once you patch the game, they'll be completely useless.

The Disgaea 3 trophy patch goes live on July 16th, adding in the ability for players to earn coveted trophy points for achieving various goals. Unfortunately, most players will have to achieve those goals all over again, as the patch will render all of their Disgaea 3 save files useless. The official press release for the announcement contains the following warning in bright red type: CAUTION: Trophy Patch Update will make old save data unusable.

Disgaea 3 is the sort of game that one can play for 100's of hours, so news of a patch that renders such progress null and void might as well have been titled "Don't Download This Patch" as far as most fans are concerned. The only alternative I can see is to back up your save files, just in case, start a new game to unlock trophies, and then uninstall the patch when you are done in order to access your previous saves.

That's an awful lot of hoops to jump through, but if you really want those trophies, then there you go. Me? I think I'll pass.

<![CDATA[Disgaea 2 Invades Disgaea 3]]> While non-Japanese reading Disgaea fans like myself sit curled up in a fetal position staring at the month of August on our desktop calendars, desperately waiting for Disgaea 3, the Japanese are getting ready to get their games topped off with additional content packs. Lucky bastards. The first pack, which goes for 500 yen and comes with a special PS3 theme (though they can be split up) contains Disgaea 2 characters Adell and Rosalin, along with the always welcome kitty-girl Nekomata monster.

I'm sure Nippon Ichi wouldn't slight their U.S. fans by not bringing these over here. The question is, when? I need my fix, dammit.

<![CDATA[Disgaea 3 Trailer (Now In English!)]]>
Disgaea 3's due in, oh, a couple of months in the US, but you wouldn't know it from how quiet everyone's been. What, no hype left for Nippon Ichi and Disgaea? No love for Stupid Hard Levels? For switching seats with classmates? Come ooooooonnnn. Maybe this English-language trailer for the game will get you in the mood for throws, and Prinnies, and combat of a tactical nature.

<![CDATA[Disgaea 3 Hits U.S. PS3s In August]]> NIS America has made the domestic release of the PlayStation 3 entry in the awesome turn based strategy RPG series official, making summer rich with Prinny explosions. Disgaea 3 will confuse graphics whores with its last-gen visuals when it hits North American PS3s this August. There's not much in the way of information from NIS about what English speakers can expect, nor is there any information on a European release, but we know of one Disgaea expert who may have answers for all your questions about the Japanese version inhabiting the comment section.

<![CDATA[Bring on the Prinny Hats!]]> You know, Super Smash Bros. Brawl wasn't the other game released yesterday. There were other games, other games like Devil May Cry 4 and Disgaea 3. Here's how the PS3 title's Akihabara release looked, complete with a plush Prinny toy, Prinny hats and a dude in a Prinny suit. The keyword here: Prinny. And yes, Witzbold sent in this tip.

<![CDATA[Extended Disgaea 3 Trailer Of Power]]> If I could be called a fanboy of anything, Disgaea is that something, to the point where I would proudly pay $30 for a game called "Etna Sits On Your Screen And Blinks Every Now And Then". Luckily for me, Nippon Ichi hasn't figured this out yet, and still insists on releasing full games with 9,999 levels of adorable strategy RPG goodness. The announcer in this extended Japanese trailer for Disgaea 3 shares my enthusiasm. If I ever learn to speak fluent Japanese I will be terribly disappointed if I don't sound exactly like him. As it stands I actually plan on importing the game when it comes out late next month, and then bugging the hell out of Ashcraft for translations every couple of minutes.]]> http://kotaku.com/index.php?op=postcommentfeed&postId=333377&view=rss&microfeed=true <![CDATA[Disgaea 3 Site Opens]]> Nippon Ichi Software has just launched the website for the latest game in the Disgaea series, which takes the intense strategy RPG and brings it to the next-generation on the PlayStation 3. The new site contains some screenshots, character and story info, and a whole lot of indecipherable squiggly lines in place of words. Those of you who read squiggly may feel free to translate anything pertinent for us in the comments section, as our normal squiggle-translator is in Squiggle-land.
