Not every studio is going to be around forever, but unless the people decide to dump the games industry will still be around working on other games, or forming new studios. Hopefully not as a "Conglomerate *Insert region here* studio that's forced to make shadows of great games and DS shovelware.
This is like when someone breaks up with you. You then realize you've gained a few pounds, you were stuck in a rut, you need to try new things. Ensemble didn't do that, they decided to stay frumpy.
Hopefully, Robot Entertainment and Bonfire will give us the Ensemble-inspired strategy games in twice the numbers. Then maybe some good will have come from this.
Ensemble is one of my longtime favorite studios, and it's sad to see them go, but it's also way too soon to think that this is necessarily a bad thing. Starting over can be good for innovation, and now we have two new studios with decades of RTS experience behind them!
I agree with you. I always expected a Halo MMO and I'd say if it was well done (Space and ground battles and usual MMO questing, etc. ) it would be a bit of competition towards WoW.
36,000% of 1 is still only 360 sales. So if the game sold 100 copies a week, it sold 36,000 that weekend. Numbers like these are exaggerated like that if sales were closer to 50 copies a week, so as awesome as that is, it's always possible it's not as awesome as you think.
@Kadrom: Maybe but he definitely has a point. I've considered pirating a number of games just because of DRM/disc issues, not because of money. When the pirates have a better version of a game than retail stores, there's room for someone like Valve to take the next step and provide better service. It will never eliminate all piracy.
I think Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony will have something to say about Steam on consoles and say nothankyou.jpg
Microsoft won't let them and Nintendo doesn't have the hardware that can handle Steam games. Sony probably won't do it either because it won't be exclusive to them and they think they're platform is just fine.
@MSUHitman: What he said was a service like Steam, not necessarily Steam itself. I could see it happening if one of the console companies developed a similar system, or modified what they have now. Would they go 100% digital? No not yet that'd be foolish.
Gabe is the fattest guy ever. This comment is NOT sarcastic.

In other news, Gabe Newell can go fuck himself for his fanboy vitriol, happily letting PS3 gamers get shit on. If he doesn't like PS3, he shouldn't publish on it. If he's going to let his games be published on PS3, they should reflect the otherwise brilliant and amazing studio that is Valve.
Newell's willingness to let EA publish Valve games is like Ernest Hemingway letting Dan Brown edit A Farewell to Arms.

I don't think I'd like it as an MMORPG. An MMOFPS would be a lot of fun (ah, the good old days of the unpolished Planetside)

Well, do what sane people do - don't buy the PS3 releases.
